We decided to see how high the Missouri River is. It is still running high as can be seen in the photos I took. I assume they are still letting water out at Gavin's Point. The cafe was giving away free hot dogs, beef burgers, chips, cookies and drinks for people to enjoy while out trick or treating! My granddaughter, Snow White, was one of those that enjoyed a break from trick or treating, stopping into Memories for food and refreshments! She not only opened a new business, but she hired construction workers to renovate the building, which had sat empty for quite sometime on Oakland's Main Street. She has a variety of items for sale. Soaps, seasonings, body wash, candles, candy, home decor and much more. In the rear of the building is a seating area for customers wishing to dine. There no longer is a toll. Now it is under construction, being painted. There is only one way traffic, and from my view, it seemed very narrow. We didn't have the time to go across the bridge. If you intend to cross, be prepared for a long wait at the traffic light, allowing traffic to cross the bridge. But, I am thrilled to be in a picture with him at any rate. I introduced myself as the Oakland City Council President and said how honored we all are to have him attend the fair and for the reason he did. He saw my election sticker on my blouse and wished me well upon being elected in November! What a thrill! On the hill, all the animals will be in the buildings, ready to be judged, with their owners dutifully attending to them. The 4-H crew will have their items they have worked on all year in the 4-H building for all to see. The rides will be going and the Methodist Kitchen and 4-H kitchens will be buzzing with people from all over stopping in for fine food and visiting with others. It is what I consider a huge family reunion time, during the fair! The rule of thumb in calculating water use is one gallon per 100 lbs. of animal plus more for heat and stress situations. This lesson was emphasized by having the participants try to identify what was in the beverage bottles by using the information available on the bottle and tasting and smelling the liquids. These Logan Valley Clovers 4-H members resort to tasting the liquids as the labeling was often incomplete.
