Amanda Brummond

Amanda Brummond

Amanda Brummond Bancroft-Rosalie class of 2013.
Where did the time go?  It seems like just yesterday I was starting high school in Bancroft and now I am a freshman at Wayne State College.
It’s really bitter sweet because on one hand there are so many great memories of high school.  Wonderful friends and teachers whom will always remain dear to me.  Speech and drama and the One Act plays which I enjoyed participating in so much.. And my family who have been so supportive of me and encouraged me to always try my best in whatever I tried to do.   On the other, I am really looking forward to being more independent and pursuing my dreams.
Now here I am going to college.  I love that some of my friends and classmates are attending Wayne.  And I am forming some new and wonderful friendships.  I also like that the classes have fewer students so the teachers can get to know their students and spend more time helping them.
I am currently taking 14 credit hours.. I am majoring in Graphic Design.  I chose that field because I love art and playing around with graphics on the computer.  I hope to someday do design for clothing lines, advertisement or interior decorating.  I am excited about the possible things I could do with this major.
I also have a dream of doing some acting someday.  Will have to see what the future holds, but it’s an exciting possibility.  I am going to try to get involved in plays here at Wayne as soon as I get used to my current schedule. My classes and grades come first.
I have two brothers that have been at Wayne going into four years now.  Camron majoring in the exercise and health field and Connor in Elementary/P.E. education.  I am sure the college is a little scared to have three Brummonds attending Wayne.  😀
Anyway, my advice to all the current high school students is to make the most of your education and the opportunities available to you.  Always do your best and set goals for yourself. Start out by setting small goals and before you know it they all add up to one big goal you achieved.  You are only young once.  Don’t ever take anything in life for granted things can change in an instant.  Live each day to the fullest and thank God along the way for all the blessings.

THE HEAT IS ON!!!

Kat Country Hub Editor and Chief, Denise Gilliland, got a bit warm while picking peaches today. A sprinkler seemed to work just fine! 95 degree heat, with humidity and heat index of over 100, tends to bring out the child in anyone! How are you staying cool?

Kats’ Korner-My escape valve

Do you have an escape valve? I am referring to those moments when life has gotten you down, and your mind goes back to a safe place, a place you love and is full of memories.

My safe place is Tekamah. My family lived there before moving to Oakland in 1978.

I remember the tears I shed driving away, watching our house shrinking in my eyes.

I was devastated.

My life changed drastically that August day. I had to start attending a new school, make new friends and wanted to run away.

I wanted to go home, to Tekamah.

—————————-Kats’ Korner———————

I do believe we all hold a place near and dear to our hearts. Tekamah was that place to me.

In the three-block radius of where I lived, there were at least 30 kids around my age. Oh, some of the games we played.

The blessing is, most of us have remained friends. That is an accomplishment in itself.

————————–Kats’ Korner———————-

Every time I am in Tekamah, I drive by our house. It is still home to me. So many memories flash through my mind, all of them bringing me comfort and happiness. I associate that with being a teenager then in search of life.

I also believe that things happen for a reason. We moved from Tekamah and I am also grateful for that. I met many people, made new friends, and started a new adventure, which led me to where I am today.

But, when I am having one of those days, I go home.

I believe we all do.

Thought for the day: God Bless your family this Sunday morning. Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

Blessings until we meet again.
