Denise Gilliland, Oakland City Council member and President of the council.

Hello. I am Denise Gilliland. I am on the Oakland City Council, serving as Oakland City Council President. I have been honored to serve the citizens of Oakland, never taking it lightly and never missing a meeting. I work from my home on Main Street, allowing me to always be available anytime of the day or night. I would appreciate your vote in November so I can continue to serve Oakland, keeping Oakland moving forward!

I am happily married to Jeff Gilliland. We have two grown children, Justin Beck and Whitney (Tri) Tran, four grandchildren and one on the way! We adore and love each moment with them! Being a parent and grandparent is a blessing. I have lived in Oakland for over 30 years. I graduated from Oakland-Craig High School in 1981. I graduated in 2013 from Northeast Community College with an Associate of Arts Degree in Journalism. I am the Editor and Chief of my own newspaper blog.

Jeff and I attend the Fire and Rescue fundraisers, Swedish Festival, Party in the Park and all other fundraisers for Oakland. I volunteered to help at events too.

Being involved in the community and serving on the Oakland City Council has given me the experience needed to keep Oakland on the right path, moving forward!

Just a couple of the accomplishments of the city council since I have been on include the new bathhouse in the Oakland Park and the water/sewer project that is nearing completion.

Our city employees are also a reason Oakland runs so smoothly. They are a great group of people, working hard every day.

The Oakland City Council members work together, offering stability and continuity, much needed to keep Oakland thriving!

Why fix what isn’t broken?

I would appreciate your vote! Let’s Keep Oakland Thriving!

Denise Gilliland Meets Nebraska Governor Pete Ricketts

Denise Gilliland, Editor and Chief of Kat Country Hub, was honored to meet Governor Pete Ricketts Monday evening when he came to declare Burt County Livestock Friendly. The picture isn't the best, my husband took it and doesn't care to use my good camera and I didn't know he was going to take one with his phone or I would have set it up. But, I am thrilled to be in a picture with him at any rate. I introduced myself as the Oakland City Council President and said how honored we all are to have him attend the fair and for the reason he did. He saw my election sticker on my blouse and wished me well upon being elected in November! What a thrill! Photo Credit/Jeff Gilliland.

Showed How Proud I am of Oakland and Serving the Citizens at Burt County Fair Parade

The weather was perfect Sunday to walk through the Burt County Fair Parade! I (Denise Gilliland, owner and editor of Kat Country Hub and Oakland City Council President) walked through the parade showing the citizens of Oakland how much Oakland means to me and how dedicated I am in serving each and every citizen of Oakland. It was wonderful seeing everyone at the parade and throughout the fair every day! I was also so blessed to have such wonderful people walk through the parade with me. I couldn’t have done it without them! My daughter, Whitney Tran and her husband Tri and their daughter Penelope, whom we spoil every chance we get, came early Sunday and helped us get everything ready to go! Our best friends Connie and Russ Peterson also came and helped out. They are truly great friends! Also, I just can’t thank Nebraska Senator Lydia Brasch and Oakland resident James Moseman enough for all they have done! They have been by my side, giving advice and helping me along the way. I appreciate each and every one of you so much! Thank you all!

Voting in the Upcoming Primary

Three weeks from today is the primary. Do you know whom you are voting for? I don’t mean on a national level, I am referring to the local candidates.

There are several incumbents and new faces running for both the Oakland City Council and the Oakland-Craig Board of Education.

I am an incumbent running for election to the Oakland City Council.

I am hoping to be elected to serve the taxpayers of Oakland for the next four years.

I consider it an honor and a privilege to be on the city council, serving the taxpayers and striving to keep Oakland a thriving community.

Being a member of the city council is not just going to one meeting a month. There is so much more involved than most people realize. It takes all of the city employees, the mayor and council to keep the city running efficiently. It is challenging, but very rewarding.

I have to say, I love serving on the council. I believe in giving back to the community I live in, and I chose to do so by serving on the council.

I don’t believe in accomplishing something on the council alone. I believe in all of us working together to reach a goal and need for the community. We are here to serve the citizens and the citizens alone. The needs of the community have and will continue to come first for me.

I love the community of Oakland and hope you will vote for me to continue serving the town I am proud to live in and proud to call home.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.

Thank you very much,

Denise Gilliland

Oakland City Council President
