Marlin “Merly” Johnson, 63, of Lyons NE

Marlin Dale Johnson, or Merly to all that knew him, was born on July 27th, 1955 to Harlan and Rose Johnson in Pender. As a child, he grew up in Uehling, where they used to enjoy riding their dirt bikes around town and running from the local cop who would be in pursuit on a tractor. As a teenager, the family moved to Oakland where Marlin graduated from Oakland High School as a member of the 73 in ’73. He then moved to Lyons where he would reside for the rest of his life. Here is where he met Ruth Cole, the love of his life, and raised their two children, son Nicholas and daughter Sherrie.

Over the years, he was a devoted employee at such local businesses as Lane’s Tree Service, Jensen Plumbing and Heating, Nelson Construction and Cooney Fertilizer. As an avid member of the Hi-way Cafe coffee club and could be found there every morning before work shooting the breeze, telling lies, and handing out free advice to all who entered. He could also be found at his shop restoring an antique tractor, assisting with an automobile repair, playing a game of pool or listening to tunes while planning his next project. He was a faithful companion, loving father, playful grandfather and helpful friend who would lend a hand to anyone that needed it. He had an infectious laugh and the undeniable gift of being able to tell a good joke, make a guy laugh, or simply put a smile on your face. On March 28th, 2019, at the age of 63, Marlin passed away after a fearless battle with cancer and will surely be missed by all who knew him.
