Willie LeRoy McCullock, 79 years, of Decatur, Nebraska, passed away Saturday, August 6, 2016 at the Golden Living Center in Tekamah, Nebraska.

A Graveside Service will be held Sat., Aug. 13th at 10:00 a.m. at the Hillcrest Cemetery in Decatur NE.

Memorials suggested to the family for designation at a later time.

Verna N. Weatherly, 95 years, of Tekamah, Nebraska, passed away Monday, June 13, 2016 at the Golden Living Center in Tekamah.

Ada Belle (Palmer) Hansen, 95, of Tekamah NE


Ada Belle (Palmer) Hansen was born September 29, 1920 in Tekamah, Nebraska, to Otto and Ethel (Choate) Palmer. She passed away Saturday, June 11, 2016 at the Golden Living Center in Tekamah.

Ada attended elementary school at Arizona Center District #3 near her farm home northeast of Tekamah and graduated from Tekamah High School in 1937. She and Roger Hansen were married February 11, 1939. They had three sons: Larry Eugene, Randall Clark and Robert Kent. They farmed until 1960 whenthey moved into Tekamah.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Magnolia Rebekah Lodge and served on the Board of the Chatt Senior Center. She worked at the switchboard of Northwestern Bell Telephone until they went to dial phones. She was the Deputy Burt County Assessor in 1967 and later became County Assessor until 1969. She then became the office manager at Burt County Public Power and retired on January 1, 1988.

She enjoyed china painting, bowling and playing bridge. In later years, she enjoyed her association with friends at the Chatt Senior Center.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Roger; sisters, Marietta Hennig and Vera Baker; and infant great-grandson, Brayden Tracy.

Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law: Larry (Sandra) Hansen of Fremont, NE, Randy (Mary) Hansen of Spokane, WA, Kent (Charlotte) Hansen of Tekamah; niece, Donna (Hennig) Yergler of Ankeny, IA; seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren.

The Memorial Service is Mon., June 20th at 10;00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Tekamah. There won’t be a visitation.

There will be a private family burial.

Memorials suggested to the Orville and Willa Chatt Senior Citizen Center.

Joe Roh Jr., 92, of Tekamah NE


Joe Roh, Jr. was born to Joseph and Mary (Shimerka) Roh on June 16, 1923 in Abie, Nebraska. He passed away on April 28, 2016, in Tekamah, Nebraska at the age of 92.

Joe grew up on a dairy farm in Abie, as one of twelve children, and attended high school in Crete, Nebraska. Joe was united in marriage to Alice Hobza on August 29, 1951, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Wahoo, Nebraska. Shortly after, Joe graduated from the University of Nebraska in June of 1953. He and Alice relocated to Broken Bow, Nebraska where he started his career as an assistant county agent. In 1955, Joe became the Burt County Agent and served in this capacity for the next 18 years. He joined the First National Bank in 1972 as an ag loan officer and worked there, off and on, until his retirement in 2012.

Joe was very active in the Tekamah and Burt County communities for a number of years. He enjoyed working with the Burt County Fair Board and was an active Lions Club member. Joe was also an active parishioner of St. Patrick’s Church in Tekamah, and previously served on the church council.

Joe’s love of his family was truly the passion of his life. He would make family gatherings and activities a priority, even up until his last days. His Czech heritage and affection for it were something that he passed along to his children and grandchildren. Joe also loved fishing, gardening, crop touring, and puttering around his vast yard.

Survivors include his wife, Alice; son, Joe (Lynn) Roh; daughters, Peggy (Steve) Nelson, Marcia (Thad) Eaton, Christi (Miles) Tommeraasen, Jenifer (Joe) Milone, and Becky (Joe Bacon) Roh; 14 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one brother, Father Raymond Roh; numerous nieces and nephews.

Joseph J. Roh, Jr., 92 years, of Tekamah, Nebraska, passed away Thursday, April 28, 2016 at the Golden Living Center in Tekamah.

Mary Eva (Gates) Moore, 95, of Tekamah NE


Mary Eva (Gates) Moore was born to Charles William and Lucile (Yerkes) Gates March 28, 1921 in Omaha, Nebraska. She passed away on Thursday, April 21, 2016 at Golden Living Center in Tekamah, Nebraska, at the age of 95.

The family moved to North Platte, Nebraska prior to settling in Tekamah. Mary graduated from Tekamah High School in 1939, a member of the National Honor Society, winning the Church School Scholarship and receiving a one year violin scholarship to Midland College in Fremont, Nebraska.

She returned to Tekamah and served 18 years as Clerk of the Burt County Court. She was appointed to Burt County Judge, and served for 12 years prior to the change in law requiring that the Judge have a law degree. She remained in the office as Associate Judge/Clerk for almost 15 years, until her retirement in 1986, having served nearly 45 years in the Burt County Court.

On May 6, 1951, Mary was united in marriage to Frank E. Moore in Tekamah. Frank and Mary loved to travel with their trailer and in the fall made many trips to National Parks in this country and in Canada, always ending their trips in Wyoming to hunt deer and antelope. Frank passed away on September 7, 2003, having celebrated 52 years of marriage. Mary moved to the Golden Living Center in 2006.

Mary was a volunteer at the E.C. Houston House and was elected to the Museum Board, serving 19 years as its Secretary. She also typed the Museum newsletter for numerous years.

Mary’s first interest was her church, becoming a member in 1931. She sang in the church choir, forming a trio with Gertrude Sells and Pearl Anderson, singing on many occasions.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Frank; brother, John Gates.

She is survived by her two brothers, Rev. Charles Gates of Lincoln, NE, Harold Gates of Oak Harbor, WA; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Janet L. Hawkins, 82, of Tekamah NE


Janet L. Hawkins, 82 years, of Tekamah, Nebraska, died peacefully at the Golden Living Center in Tekamah on Sunday, February 7, 2016.

Janet was born September 28, 1933, in Tekamah to Thomas and Pauline (Lewis) McNear. She attended country school and graduated from Tekamah High School in 1951.

March 22, 1951, she was united in marriage to Gerald D. Hawkins in Omaha, Nebraska. They lived in Tekamah all their married life. A devoted wife and mother, she worked with Gerd at the Pump Shop from the time they purchased it in 1964 until selling it to his sister and brother-in-law, Pat and Leo Oligmueller in 1997.

Retirement was spent doing all of her favorite things, gardening, fishing, playing cards, traveling to Texas in the winter, and even taking up the game of golf. Although it was considered “Grandpa’s garden”, Janet was always at his side, and every year had a plentiful harvest of canned tomatoes and her famous tomato juice. The river became a favorite meeting place for friends and family, especially the grandkids. Janet was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Tekamah.

Preceding her in death were her husband; parents; grandson, Brian Weatherly.

Survivors include her four children, Scott (Cheryl) Hawkins of Kearney, NE, Perky (Denny) Weatherly of Tekamah, Linda (Monty) Dorn of Sacramento, CA, Shelli (Troy) Sims of Omaha; grandchildren, Paula (Tracy) Denton, Brad (Becky) Hawkins, Jodi (Kevin) Rogert, Julie (Rob) Caldwell, Josh (Pablo Serrano) Hawkins, Kellie (Will) Paschall, Kaitlin (Dean) McCann, Jennifer (Ryan) Elderkin, Nate (Tawnya) Dorn, Zack (Amber) Dorn and Dallas Sims; 16 great-grandchildren; sister, Kay (Jim) Erwin of Blair, NE; brother, Lew (LaDonna) McNear of Tekamah; the Hawkins family; many nieces and nephews; the wonderful family at Golden Living Center.

The Memorial Service will be held Mon., Feb. 22nd at the First Presbyterian Church in Tekamah NE at 10:30 a.m.

Burial is in the Tekamah Cemetery.
