Glenn “Bud” R. Conklin, 88, of Winslow NE


Glenn “Bud” R. Conklin, 88 years, of Winslow, NE died Thursday, October 4, 2018 at Nebraska Methodist Health Systems in Fremont. Glenn was born March 14, 1930 in Decatur, NE to Frank and Frances(Ashby)Conklin, Sr.

He was raised in Decatur and was a 1947 graduate of Decatur High School. He also attended Wayne State College. He lived in Tekamah, NE and drove truck, moved to Blair and lived there for several years, then he moved to Arlington and worked at Haymill. In 1968 he moved to Winslow and worked for Magnus Metal in Fremont until his retirement in 1987. Glenn married Norma Toelle on December 14, 1974 at Beemer, NE. She preceded him in death on December 5, 2008.

He was a past member of Winslow Fire Department and he and Norma were involved in Good Sam Camping Club RVing for many years.

He is survived by son, Todd(Milcy)Conklin of Winslow; daughters, Ellen(Scott)Lewis of Clearfield, Utah and Laure Eccelston and significant other, Ralph Gilbertson of Elgin SC; step-daughter, Jeannie(Mike)Davis of Yelville, AR; sisters, Helen Lewis, Arline Parker, Bev Echtencamp, Sue Brewer and Alyce(Kent) Bayne; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; sons, Ernest Conklin and Mike Conklin; and brother, Frank Conklin, Jr.

Memorial Service will be 10:30 A.M., Friday, October 12, 2018 at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont. The Rev. Dan Heuer will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to the American Diabetes Association.

Pamela K. Hancock, 73, of Fremont NE, Formerly of Tekamah NE


Pamela K. Hancock, 73 years, of Fremont, NE died Tuesday, November 14, 2017 at Fremont Medical Health Center. Pamela was born November 24, 1943 in San Francisco, California to Ralph and Mable (Lewis) Petet.

She lived in San Francisco during World War II and moved to Comstock, NE and then to Tekamah, NE. She graduated from 8th grade at District #8 at Tekamah and graduated in 1961 from Tekamah High School. She moved to Fremont in 1961. Pamela married Lawrence D. Hancock on November 9, 1962 and they later divorced. He preceded her in death on November 14, 2013. She retired in 2010 from Hormel Foods in Fremont after thirty-four years of employment.

Pam was a member of First Baptist Church in Fremont, a very proud member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and a former member of a Red Hat Society. She volunteered at Fremont Health Medical Center. She was an avid genealogist, Huskers Fan and Elvis Fan. She traveled as much as possible with family and friends and had planned a trip for later this winter. She visited Graceland multiple times and enjoyed flowers and gardening. She loved her dog, Dutchess, a Boston terrier.

She is survived by sons, Scott (Angie) Hancock, Chris Hancock all of Fremont and Tyler (Michelle) Hancock of Arlington, NE; brother, Jerry (JoAnn) Petet of West Point, NE; sister, Sharon Sohl of Columbus, NE; and grandchildren, Nathan Hancock, Sara Hancock, Caleb Hancock, Jordyn Hancock, Brady Hancock, and Cameron Hancock.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral Service will be at 9:30 A.M., Saturday, November 18, 2017 at First Baptist Church in Fremont. The Rev. Leland Foreman and Rev. Richard Crooks will officiate. Visitation on Friday from 5 PM to 8 PM at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont and forty-five minutes prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Burial will be at Memorial Cemetery in Fremont.

Memorials may be directed to the family for further designation or to the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Dorothy H. Novotny, 81, of Oakland NE


Dorothy H. Novotny, 81, of Oakland, NE, passed away Saturday, November 4, 2017, at Oakland Mercy Hospital.

Dorothy was born October 18, 1936, in Wasau, NE, to John and Pearl (Forney) Hensley. Dorothy graduated from Fremont High School. She married Don Novotny on March 1, 1957, in Fremont. They resided in Fremont, Wahoo, Omaha, and Oakland.

Dorothy enjoyed gardening, homemaking, cats, and interacting with people.

She is survived by her husband, Don of Oakland; sons, Scott (Sharon) Novotny of Chesapeake, Virginia and Dan Novotny of Omaha, NE; daughter, Amy (Randy) Sohm – Vanbeek of Omaha; daughter in law, Janine Novotny of Oakland; six grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; son, Jeffrey Novotny; 5 sisters; and 3 brothers.

The funeral service will be 2:00 PM, Wednesday, November 8, 2017, at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont. Chaplain Scott Jensen will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior the service on Wednesday at the Funeral Home. Burial will be at Ridge Cemetery in Fremont.

Timothy Hawkins, 41, of Oakland NE


Timothy J. Hawkins, 41 years, of Oakland, NE, formerly Fremont, NE, passed away Sunday, March 5, 2017 at his home. There is no funeral service. However, there will be a visitation from 1 to 3 p.m. on Wednesday, March 8, 2017, at the Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont. Visitation will continue Thursday, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Grace Lutheran Church in West Point, NE. Burial will be at Memorial Cemetery in Fremont, at a later date. Timothy was born August 27, 1975 to James and Sylvia (Shaffer) Hawkins in Fremont, NE. He graduated from Fremont High School. In 1995, he moved to Oakland to live and work in the Northstar Services housing. He was currently volunteering at Oakland Heights Nursing and Rehabilitation.

Timothy was one to be where the action was happening. He attended the Cuming County Fair in West Point on an annual basis, making sure to see the rodeos, demolition derby’s and tractor pulls. He loved his music, especially the Beatles, fresh tea and Dr. Pepper. His most recent trip was to Kansas City to tour Hallmark and attend Christmas events. Driving around to see Christmas lights was a favorite.

He is survived by his brother, Tony Hawkins of Fremont; sisters, Anita (Ronald) Schroeder of Columbus, NE, Chantelle Haase of Denver, IA; niece, Cassandra (Daniel) Burchad of Fremont; and nephews, William (Saraha) Hawkins of Salem, MA, Coletyin Haase of Pender, NE and Cwintyin Haase of Fremont.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

James A. “Jim” Hank, 66, of Hooper NE


James A. “Jim” Hank, 66 years, of Hooper, NE died Monday, May 16, 2016 at Premier Estates in Fremont, NE. Jim was born August 8, 1949 in Norfolk, NE to Reinhard and Ina (Shufelt) Hank. Jim married Carolyn “Carol” Klitzke on June 6, 1970 in Wakefield, NE. He lived in Fremont from 1970 until moving to Hooper, NE in 1984. He worked as a welder for Valmont Industries in Valley, NE.

Jim was a 20 year member of the Hooper Volunteer Fire Department. He was a life member of the National Rifle Association and an award winning Trap Shooter. He was a member of the Anglers Club and Izaak Walton in Fremont. Jim enjoyed hunting, fishing and wood working.

He is survived by his wife, Carol; daughters, Tracy (Michael) Gearhart of Omaha, Sherry (Ron) Hassler of Pacific Junction, IA; and Jennifer Hank (Andy Armstrong) of Omaha; brothers, Walter (Connie) Hank of Hooper, Rodney (Sandy) Hank of Fremont and Russell (Elsie) Hank of North Bend, NE; and 3 grandchildren, Ross, Lauren, and Evan; and many cherished nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and infant son, Danny James Hank.

Funeral service will be 1:30 PM, Tuesday, May 24, 2016 at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont. The Rev. Scott Jensen will officiate. Visitation on Monday from 4 PM to 7 PM at the funeral home. Burial will be at the Hooper Cemetery in Hooper, NE. Memorials may be directed to the family for a designation to be determined.

Alberta M. Voss, 90, of Fremont NE


Alverta M. Voss, 90, of Fremont, NE, passed away Sunday, January 10, 2016, at Providence Place in Fremont.

Alverta was born February 25, 1925, in Hooper, NE, to Gustav and Olga (Peters) Tienken. She grew up on a farm southwest of Hooper and graduated from Scribner High School in 1942. Alverta married Elra Lantefield on February 2. 1947 in Hooper. They lived in Hooper till 1953. Elra passed away February 22, 1953. Alverta moved to Fremont and married Wallace Voss on October 14, 1962 in Hooper. In 1962, they moved to Arlington, NE. Wallace passed away April 9, 1988 and Alverta moved back to Fremont.

Alverta was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Hooper. She was a member of the Smile Club and enjoyed spending time playing cards in various card clubs.

She is survived by her nephews, Roger (Judy) Von Seggern of Scribner, NE, and Stanley Von Seggern of Fremont; great nephews, Martin (Paula) Von Seggern of Scribner, Scott (Angie) Von Seggern of Fremont; great nieces, Becky (James) Lynn of Uehling, NE, Barbara Von Seggern of Scribner, and Tracie (Russ) Quinn of Herman, NE.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, Elra Lantefield and Wallace Voss; sister Almira (Raymond) Von Seggern.

The funeral service will be 10:00 AM, Thursday, January 14, 2016, at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Hooper, NE. The Rev Joel Schroeder will officiate. Visitation will be Wednesday, from 5 PM until 8PM at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday. Burial will be at Hooper Cemetery in Hooper.

Janette I. Day, 81 years, of Fremont, NE passed away Sunday, December 6, 2015 at the Good Samaritan Center in Scribner, NE.

She was born August 14, 1934 to Claude and Goldie (Sheets) Yowell in Herman, NE. She grew up in Herman and graduated from Herman High School. On February 20, 1955, Janette married Vernon R. Day at the Baptist Church in Herman. After marriage, the couple lived in Onawa, IA. In 1959, they moved to Fremont.

She loved to travel with her husband and take vacations. She also loved to take care of her family and grandchildren.

She is survived by her sons, Darwin Day of Fremont, NE, Douglas Day and wife Deborah of Fremont, NE, Darin Day and wife Katie of Omaha, NE; chosen daughter, Renae Norenberg and husband Fred of Fremont, NE; twin sister, Janice Kelly; grandchildren, Tyler Day, Delaney Day, Nicholas Norenberg, and Zachary Norenberg and wife Shelby.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Vernon; son, Doyle Day; sister, Mary Ann Snow.

There will be a private family graveside service at Memorial Cemetery in Fremont, NE. There is no visitation.

Jimmy L. Tillman, 85, of Fremont NE


Jimmy L. Tillman, 85 years, of Fremont, NE died Monday, November 30, 2015 at Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital in Lincoln, NE.

Jimmy was born July 26, 1930 in Hooper, NE to John and Gladys (Rodgers) Tillman. He grew up in Hooper and was a 1948 graduate of Hooper High School, where he played football and basketball. He then moved to Sidney, NE. Jimmy previously worked for the railroad, and operated a roller rink in Hawarden, Iowa and Slayton, MN. He later moved to Fremont, where he lived most of his life. He was a 44 year employee of Hormel’s, and owned and operated Tillman TV Repair Service in Fremont. He also worked for Fremont Housing Authority. Jimmy married Jeanine McDonald on April 24th at Grace Lutheran Church in Hooper.

He was a former member of Salem Lutheran Church in Fremont and member of the Hooper Volunteer Fire Department, for several years. He enjoyed sports, especially Husker Football. Jimmy enjoyed roller skating and entered many dance competitions with his wife.

He is survived by his wife, Jeanine; sons, Kelly and wife, Lou Tillman of Houston, TX and Michael and wife, Cheri Tillman of Las Vegas, NV; sister, Illa Stalp of West Point, NE; 2 grandchildren, Ashley and Sarah Tillman; and 7 adopted grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Bill; and sisters, Jackie and Avis.

Funeral service will be 3:30 PM, Friday, December 4, 2015 at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont. The Rev. J.W. Berry will officiate. Visitation on Friday 1 hour prior to services. Burial will be at Memorial Cemetery in Fremont.

Judy Nelson, 77, of Hooper NE


Judy Nelson, 77 years, of Hooper, NE died Oct. 29, 2015 at CHI Creighton University Medical Center, Omaha. NE.

Judith Joan Christensen, the youngest daughter of Myron & Helen (Meier) Christensen was born on the family farm in rural Hooper on November 19, 1937. She grew up & lived her entire life in the Hooper area. She attended Hooper High School, graduating in 1955. She married Lyman George Nelson on May 27, 1956, at the Hooper Methodist Church. Together, they had seven children.

Judy was a long time employee of the Hooper Over 60 Center. She worked her way to manager, retiring in 2002. She became an Amateur Radio Operator in 1972 and remained active throughout her life. She also enjoyed spending time in the garden and at their cabin on the Elkhorn River. She was a loving wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She was very active in her community through her lifetime, she will truly be missed.

Surviving are her husband, Lyman; six children & their spouses, Julie Rican (George Loaris) of Grand Island, Don (Deb) Nelson of Elkhorn, Connie Gibbs, Patti Nelson (Lynn Gralheer) of Hooper, Jeff (Kellie) Nelson & Bob Nelson (Beth McKain) of Fremont; thirteen grandchildren & their spouses: Jeremy Rican of Lincoln, Josh (Stephanie) Rican of Ohio, Tricia (Matt) Medinger of Fremont, Ryan (Caitlyn) Nelson of Texas, Ashley Dickerson of South Carolina, Jason Smith (Jamie Sell) of Craig, Matt (Morgan) Swanson, Kyle Swanson of Lincoln, Conner Gralheer of Hooper, Candy Perry (Brett Roberts), Tyler, Brenden & Hannah Perry Nelson of Fremont; great grandchildren, Jacob and Elliot Rican of Ohio, Lily Nelson of Texas, Averie Moss and Kylie & Kian Medinger of Fremont; niece, Joanie (Greg) Rump of Fremont; nephews, Gary Christensen of South Dakota and Lee(Brenda)Nelson of Omaha; and brother-in law, Dale (Gina) Nelson of Florida. The Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, November 14th at 1:00 pm, at Faith United Methodist Church in Hooper. The Rev. Cole F. Fowler will officiate. There is no visitation.
