I had the pleasure of visiting with Willmer and Millie Moseman of Oakland today in a local establishment.

I have adored them for many years. I rented a house from them approximately 28 years ago for Justin and I to live in. The house was on north Oakland Avenue, where Willmer and Millie live now. Not the same house though. After Justin and I moved out, they tore that house down and built a new house that they have lived in ever since.

The house I lived in was very nice, just older. We loved it. It was also in an ideal location. Being on Main Street has its’ advantages, as it does now. I seem to like living on Main Street.

I remember how I came to know Willmer and Millie. My Grandma Sundquist knew them and had suggested I rent the house from them.

I didn’t know then that they would become good friends of mine for years to come. I am very honored to know them. They are very kind and caring people. Oakland is blessed to have such good individuals in the community!

Speaking of Grandma Sundquist, I was out on one of my many walks I enjoy during the warm summer days, when I walked by Grandma’s former residence. Now, Michael Nissen lives there. He is taking great care of the house.

He has painted it, and is having what I believe to be a garage, built on the property. Grandma’s other garage was very small, but so was her car!

I am glad to see the property and house are so well maintained. Every summer, I, along with all of the other grandchildren, looked forward to a week at grandma’s house.

We couldn’t all be there at the same time, of course, but every moment there was precious.

I didn’t even mind being sick because grandma would take me to her house so the other three kids wouldn’t get sick.

I felt like I was on a holiday!

I would like to close my column with a few subjects that concern me. Bullying and any forms of abuse, sexual, verbal or physical.

The fact that innocent children are committing suicide due to bullying appalls me. With technology being what it is, where are the parents? Please monitor your children’s computers. Maybe it would be better for children not to have smart phones?

I think there should be a law stating only people of legal age can have any smart phone. I know that would be impossible to enforce. Maybe the parents should be punished too.

The forms of abuse I referred to are also getting out of hand. I have someone researching this, and I will be too. Hopefully, and article will be forthcoming.

In the mean time, please, keep your children safe.

Parents, be parents. The responsibility lies with you, but not you along. All adults are responsible.

It takes a village. Don’t forget that.

Thought for the Day: It is cold outside! Bundle up and keep warm!

Have a blessed time until we meet again.
