The state’s two largest newspapers recognized Cougar Senior Quarterback Alex Brehmer as a part of their All-Nebraska D-2 team.  Brehmer was selected by both papers as a defensive back.  Brehmer was one of four quarterbacks listed on the All State team by the Omaha World-Herald.  The first team quarterback spot went to state champion Falls City Sacred Heart’s Chaz Dunn.  The other three rested  on their merits as a defensive player.

The honor was a repeat notation by the Omaha World-Herald and a first for the Lincoln Journal Star.

Brehmer ended the year on the Bobby Mills 1000 Yard Club with 1808 yards, eleventh best in Nebraska High Schools. He was the second best rusher in D-2.  Brehmer was one of three to log a 1000-yard rushing season for the third time.  He also passed for 844 yards this seasonll state.

Brehmer’s defensive numbers were worthy of honors as he was second on the team with 123 tackles from his defensive back position.  He has four interceptions and caused one fumble.

Six schools including Northeast had two 1000 yard rushers.  Chevy Henneman joined Brehmer with 1265 yards. Henneman was named honorable mention by both papers.

The Cougars’ top tackler, Dakota Riecken, earned an honorable mention from each publication.  Dakota had 175 tackles, 2 interceptions and a fumble recovery.  He caught 26 passes and scored 8 touch downs.

The World-Herald also gave honorable mention to David Bishop.   The 155 pound senior anchored one end of the line for the Cougar defense.  He had 57 tackles and an interception.

The Cougars finished the 2013 season with an 8-2 record.  The Omaha World-Herald rated them at number seven in D-2 in their final ratings.
