Recently, both 7th and 8th grade went to the First Annual Homer Honor Band Festival. This year the Honor Band was held in Homer, which is an addition to the Band Festival in Lyons. This year, since it was the inaugural year, there was only one ensemble, but in the years to come there is hope to be up to three ensembles. With the help of Clinician Dr. Gary Reeves from the University of South Dakota, the day was complete.
To get into the Honor Band, students were selected. Students from LDNE selected were Cassidy Mentink, Layne Miller and Kassandra Prieto. The day went with two rehearsal sessions, the first from 9:30-12:00 then a lunch break from 12:00-12:40, then off again to the second rehearsal from 12:40-4:00 and the concert

followed at 4:30. Songs that were played include Parade of the Jesters, Hosts of the Freedom, Amazing Grace, Cucina Bella, Dakota Morn, and John Williams Trilogy. The Homer Honor Band was very enjoyable and a great experience, and kids are exited to go again in future years.
