Alexandria, Virginia – Mr. John Donald Mayo, a teacher at Lyons-Decatur
Northeast School in Lyons, Nebraska, has been awarded a national
scholarship by the Association of American Educators Foundation. The
scholarship will allow Mr. Mayo to take a guitar workshop, which will
improve his teaching abilities and overall music skills.
“In my 4 years of teaching guitar in the classroom setting, I have learned
that the guitar attracts students from all walks of life,” said Mr. Mayo.
“The aspect I am most excited about is the fact that it attracts the
attention of students who would not normally enroll in any of my other
music programs.”
AAEF is committed to offering individual educators various avenues for
improving effectiveness in the classroom. “AAEF commends the dedication
that Mr. Mayo has demonstrated in securing funding for his professional
development,” said AAEF Chairman Gary Beckner. “These scholarships and
grants are an investment in empowering teachers as professionals across the
country.”
The Association of American Educators Foundation is a non-profit charitable
