The Northeast boys ran into a buzz saw as they closed out their pre Christmas schedule in basketball. They found the D-1’s defending state champion team from Howells-Dodge to be the real deal in a 75-38 defeat. The Jaguars have an 8-0 record. Northeast slips to 2-3.
“They are the best team that I have coached against here at Lyons-Decatur,” proclaimed Coach Lahm. “They don’t have any weaknesses. They play tough defense. We tried to force outside shots and they buried them and when we went out to challenge their shooters they beat us in the paint.”
The Jaguars were led by 6′ 5″Luke Hegemann who had 17 points and15 rebounds. Jesse Faltys was close behind with 15 points.
Bobby Simpson and Marcus Hegy were the top Cougars with 10 points each. Dakota Riecken added 8 points.
The Jaguars hits 30 of 60 shots. They had 22 two pointer and 8 treys. Northeast struggled with 15 of 46 shooting. They missed ten treys before Marcus Hegy found the range on two in the fourth quarter.
The taller Howells-Dodge team out rebounded LDNE 41 to21.
Northeast will host a Holiday Round Robin after the Christmas break. With the co-op of Humphrey and Lindsay Holy Family they chose to play in Lindsay’s holiday tournament . That leave three teams for Lyons-Decatur. The Cougars will play Scribner-Snyder on December 27. They will play Emerson-Hubbard on December 30.
