Food Pride Accepting Donations for Tornado Victims


Nelson’s Food Pride will be sponsoring a semi-trailer on Oakland’s Main Street in front of the VFW for those who wish to donate to the recent Nebraska tornado victims. The trailer will be there this afternoon thru Saturday. Items needed include: water, paper goods, toiletries, children’s toys, summer clothes, nonperishable food items, blankets, towels.

Nelson’s food pride will have a semi parked in front of the VFW to fill with donations for the tornado victims they will take the trailer load up on Saturday let’s help get this trailer filled!!! There are a lot of local ties to this tragedy!! So they need our help!! Items needed: water, paper goods , toiletries ,toys for the kids ,summer clothes nonperishable food items,blankets,towels . Let’s see how fast and how full we can get this trailer!!!

Work Scheduled on Highway 77


Department of Roads will begin resurfacing the existing shoulders and add shoulder rumble strips on Highway 77 between Oakland and Lyons on June 19th, weather permitting. Traffic will be maintained using flaggers and a pilot vehicle. Motorists are urged to use caution when traveling in this area. Anticipated completion is early July.

The West Point Chamber of Commerce has requested anyone wanting to donate items should drop them off here at the Nielsen Center. from Now till 4pm.

Hand wipes/Sanitizer

Scrap Tire Collection Grant Awarded to Cuming County


Cuming County has been awarded a grant from the Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality for the purpose of having a scrap tire collection. The Nebraska Loess Hills Resource, Conservation and Development Council (RC&D), Papio- Missouri River NRD, Lower Elkhorn NRD, City of West Point, and the Cuming County Fairboard are partnering to organize the collection. The tentative date for this collection is September 5. It will be held in West Point.

The RC&D has applied for funding for an electronic waste and HHW (household hazardous waste) collections.

Nebraska Cattlemen Association Support Ricketts


The Nebraska Cattlemen Association today announced its support for Pete Ricketts’ campaign for governor.

 

“I am honored to have the support of the Nebraska Cattlemen Association,” Ricketts said.  “Nebraska’s cattle producers are the best in the country.  One of my top priorities will be to help promote value-added ag opportunities that lead to economic growth throughout the state.  Continued strength and innovation in the beef industry will be critical.  I am very excited about the future of agriculture in Nebraska, and I look forward to working with livestock producers across the state.”

The Nebraska Cattlemen Association is the largest livestock production organization in the state.
