Groovy’s Pub, Dream of Small Town Tavern Becomes Reality

“I have always wanted to have a small town tavern,” stated Tami Grover, owner of Groovy’s Pub in Oakland. “We are a pub and grill, selling food and drinks.”

Groovy’s opened their doors June 1st, having purchased the business from Brian and Patty Johnson and Randy Johnson (then called Trophies). Starting a new business has its ups and downs. “It takes a lot to get a business going and we are still in that process. We are everyday facing new challenges and wants and all of that takes time and money,” said Tami. “Patience is what I need to remember most. All will come in time and I have to remember that.”

Tami spends every day doing something for the business. “Whether it is bartender, cook, cleaner or the business paperwork side, such as ordering and planning entertainment, I am doing something,” Tami stated. “Sometimes it is just going around to other taverns and try to plan outings and hear what people actually want.”

Tami likes working for herself better than being employed by someone else. “I know what I want and how I want people to feel when they come to Groovy’s. I want them to feel like it is their own and that they are welcome,” Tami said.

She enjoys meeting people and seeing new faces too. “That means the word is getting out and people are coming in,” Tami stated.

She is not alone in her venture however. She is fortunate to have a great support system in place. “My family has been very excited and they help me daily. My husband is very supportive and helps tons with laundry and the kids and daily routines that I just haven’t been so routine anymore,” Tami said. My daughter is such a great help. She is great with her brother and very self-reliant. I couldn’t do this without her.

Her son, Mason, also enjoys being a part of the business. “He thinks the business is his and he wants to take orders,” Tami stated.

Groovy’s is located at 336 N. Oakland Avenue in Oakland, NE. They can be reached at 402-685-3006 from the hours of 11:00 a.m.-1:00 a.m.groovy's logo 1
