Luella M. (Paulsen) Kay, 83, of Wakefield, NE, passed away Friday, April 10, 2015 at the Wakefield Health Care Center in Wakefield. Funeral services will be Tuesday, April 14, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church with Pastor William Bertrand officiating.

Visitation will be Monday, April 13, 2015 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at Bressler-Munderloh-Smith Funeral Home in Wakefield. Mildred (Smith) Thomsen, 97, of Wakefield NE


Mildred (Smith) Thomsen, 97, of Wakefield, NE, passed away Thursday, April 9, 2015 at the Wakefield Health Care Center in Wakefield. Funeral services are Monday, April 13, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at Salem Lutheran Church in Wakefield, with Pastor Barbara Hansen officiating. Visitation with the family present will be 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Sunday, April 12, 2015 at Bressler – Munderloh – Smith Funeral Home in Wakefield with a prayer service beginning at 7:00 p.m. Burial will be in the Wakefield Cemetery in Wakefield. Memorials are suggested to the family for future designation. Arrangements are under the direction of Bressler – Munderloh – Smith Funeral Home in Wakefield.

Mildred was born May 5, 2015 in Los Angeles, CA to Floyd and Agnes (Anderson) Smith. Mick married Morris Thomsen November 3, 1937 in Wayne County. They farmed in Thurston and eventually Wayne County, where they raised their family. In 1964, they moved to Wakefield. Morris and Mick continued to live in their own home and were very active with their children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren .She enjoyed reading, embroidering, and cutting quilt blocks. Mick also loved to bake and spend time with her family. After seventy years of marriage, Morris died on December 30, 2007, Mildred then moved into the Wakefield Health Care Center, where she lived until the time of her death.

She is survived by her sons, Kenny (Julie) Thomsen of Wakefield, NE, Jim (Karen) Thomsen of Stromsburg, NE; daughters, Elaine (Bill) Greve of Wakefield, NE, Faye (Merlin) Greve of Wakefield, NE; sister, Joan Jensen of Omaha, NE; brother, Alva Smith of Pender, 12 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren.

Mildred is preceded in death by her husband, Morris; sister, Francis; parents; daughter-in-law, Denise; grandson, Mike; and great-great granddaughter Maria.

Mary E. Andersen, 80, of Fremont, Formerly of Uehling NE


Mary E. Andersen, age 80, of Fremont, formerly of Uehling, Nebraska passed away early Thursday morning, April 9th, in Dunklau Gardens, Fremont.  Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, Apr. 13th, at the Elim Lutheran Church, Swaburg, south of Uehling, with the Rev. Judith Johnson officiating. Committal will be in the Argo Cemetery.  Visitation at the Ludvigsen Mortuary in Fremont on Sunday from 3 to 7  p.m.  Memorials are suggested to the Uehling Fire & Rescue Dept. and Elim Lutheran Church.  Access the online guestbook at http://www.ludvigsenmortuary.com.  Ludvigsen Mortuary in Fremont is in charge of arrangements.

Mary was born May 16, 1934 in Winside, NE to William and Anna (Suhr) Lambrecht. She moved with her family to Omaha in 1944, where she graduated from Omaha South High School in 1951, then worked for Wright & Whilhelmy until 1954.

She married Richard L. Andersen in Omaha on May 13, 1953. Richard was serving in the US Army at the time. Then following his return from his overseas service duty in 1954, they settled on a farm near Uehling, NE and raised their children. Mary returned to work part time at the hospital in Fremont in 1974, then later in that same year, she went to work at the Uehling State Bank where she remained until 1985. She also worked temporarily in the ASC Office in Fremont, and TGS, FTI, and Furst Group Co. until her retirement in 1999. Her husband of nearly 52 years preceded her in death on March 29, 2005. Mary remained on the farm until moving to Fremont 2 years ago. She was a member of Elim Lutheran Church, Swaburg, and a past member of LCW and Altar Guild. And she was a member of the Happy Hour Club.

In addition to her husband Richard, she was preceded by her sister Gloria in 2005 and brother Ray in 2009.

Surviving are: sons, Rick Andersen of rural Uehling and special friend Shari Exceen, Bruce (Teresa) Andersen of Fremont, daughters, Laurie (Dan) Wobken of Hooper, Linda (Dan) Jacques of Abilene, TX, Carol (Alan) Shipull of Algona, IA. Mary has 12 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Also surviving is a sister Clara (Doug) Houston of Omaha, brother Harold (JoAnn) Lambrecht of Council Bluffs, IA, sister-in-law LaVonne Lambrecht of Minneapolis, MN, brother & sister-in-law Don & Patsy Andersen of Fremont, and many beloved nieces, & nephews.

Upcoming Sunday Program at Decatur Museum

I am excited to announce the Decatur Museum will be re-opening Sunday, April 19 with the special program: “Woody Guthrie: Re-envisioning 1920’s America” at 2 p.m.

Through lecture and song, this program by musician MIke Adams and Kate Benzel describes the American culture of the 1930’s, including the Great Depression and the Dust Bowl. To complement the program, the museum has on display a unique collection of items from Main Street Decatur businesses including memorabilia from the 1930’s.

So, gather up your family and friends and plan to enjoy an entertaining and historical program! We will have refreshments after the performance, you can tour the current exhibits at the museum AND it’s free!! Please share this post–we’d love to have a packed museum at our opening program!!
