Shirley A. McAllister was born September 27, 1931 at the family home in West Point, Nebraska, the daughter of Harvey R. and Maude E. (Crist) Ellenberger. She died Saturday, July 18, 2015 at Heritage Care Center in Fairbury, Nebraska.
Shirley graduated from Tekamah High School in 1949, and while raising a family and working she graduated summa cum laude from Dana College, Blair, Nebraska in 1969.
Shirley was united in marriage to L. Dale McAllister in October, 1950. They lived on a farm near Craig, Nebraska for 51 years, before retiring to Tekamah.
Shirley was an elementary teacher for many years starting in Craig, Nebraska, subsequently at Tekamah-Herman Schools. She eventually earned certifications in Special Education and became a professor at Dana College in Blair where she taught Educational Psychology. She retired from teaching in 1996 to spend more time with family and to travel with Dale.
Memberships included First Presbyterian Church, where she was active in many ways, Chapter DC PEO, Order of Eastern Star, book club, Clio club and she enjoyed her Chatt Center friends and had served as Chatt Center Treasurer.
Preceding her in death were her husband, parents, sister and brother-in-law Phyllis and Bernard Pipher, and an infant daughter Lori.
Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law: Mike and Susan McAllister of Tekamah, Tim and Deb McAllister of Fairbury; grandchildren: Dr. Charles McAllister of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, Jennifer and Jim Flak of New York City, Cristy and Aaron Fryzek of Lincoln, Jake and Katie McAllister of Elkhorn and their son Owen, Shirley’s great grandchild.
MEMORIAL SERVICE: Monday, July 27, 2015, 11:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Tekamah.
BURIAL: Tekamah Cemetery
