Doris June (Lindberg) Modlin, 84, of Craig NE


Doris June (Lindberg) Modlin was born June 23, 1931 to Linde and Tora (Johnson) Lindberg on a farm 1 mile east and 1.2 mile south of Craig, Nebraska. She passed away on September 22, 2015 at CHI Health Lakeside Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska, at 84 years of age.

Doris loved the farm, even without any modern facilities. She loved horseback riding and the farm chores. She attended country schools; Padock and Dist. 15. She and her father were baptized in the Methodist Church in Craig. She went to Craig High School and graduated in 1949. After her mother died, she moved to Craig, and worked for her Dad at Burt County Service Station. In 1952 she worked for a year at Mutual Insurance Company. In 1953, she and Helen Raver went to Yellowstone National Park, and worked a season at Fishing Bridge. There she met her first husband.

On May 8, 1954 she was united in marriage to Paul Eugene Johnson. To this union were born two daughters, Cynthia Jo and Janice Kay; two sons, Jeffrey Burt and Mark Alan. On June 28, 1964 Paul died suddenly of a massive coronary. At that time Doris and her family moved back to Craig. She again did bookkeeping for her dad at Lindberg Garage, and worked part time at Tekamah Nursing Home.

On September 2, 1966 Doris was united in marriage to William Eugene Modlin at Bridal Cave in Camdenton, Missouri. She became a homemaker for their seven children; she loved to cook and bake. After the family was grown, she worked at Oakland School for three years, then Oakland Heights Nursing Home for 8 ½ years . She then went to work at Tekamah School for 14 years, until ill health caused her to quit at age 82.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands, Paul in 1964, William in 2003; two brothers, Bob Lindberg, Ted (Vera) Lindberg; a cousin raised as a sibling, Lucille Jancik; son, Donald Lee Modlin; four year old great granddaughter Sierra Grace Wilcox; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Clifford (Mary) Gustafson, Derrel Modlin, Clifford (Ruby) Modlin, John Modlin, Alta Foulk.

She is survived by her children, Cynthia (Mike) Johnson, Janice (Keith) Magill, Jeff (Marcy) Johnson, Mark (Sylvia) Johnson, Kim Ford, Lorri (Don) Steffen; 19 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

FUNERAL SERVICE: Saturday, September 26, 2015, 2:30 pm, at United Methodist Church in Craig, Nebraska

VISITATION:  Friday 6-8 pm, with family receiving friends at Pelan Funeral Services Tekamah. Visitation will also be held at the church one hour prior to service.

BURIAL: Tekamah Cemetery in Tekamah, Nebraska.

MEMORIALS: To the family for designation at a later time.
