Kansas Point Campground Closing for Electrical Upgrade

Starting Sept. 10 Kansas Point Campground at Lake Maloney State Recreation Area (SRA) will be closed to update the electrical units at each campsite.

The original electrical units were installed for the 56-pad campground in 1983 and are in need of updating to provide uninterrupted service to campers.

Rod Shimmer, Park Superintendent at Lake Maloney SRA is requesting that all campers and tents be removed from Kansas Point by 4 p.m. on Sept. 10, 2015. There will be no access to the campground until the updates are finished, which should take two to three-weeks.

The campground will re-open after the new electrical updates are completed.

Kansas Point sees over 35,000 visitors per year that camp, fish and boat at the SRA. Lake Maloney SRA is located just south of North Platte on HWY 83.

Oakland-Craig Downs Fremont Bergan in Season Opener

The Oakland-Craig Knights came back from a 6-0 half-time score to defeat Fremont Bergan 22-6

“We did not play as discipline as we would have liked, but you have to like the end result. It was a great team win,” stated Joe Anderson, Oakland-Craig Head Football Coach. “We had way too many penalties and turnovers, but solid defense really allowed us to overcome those mental mistakes.  I thought we played very physical on the defensive side of the ball.”

Leading the way defensively was Hos Smith with 12 tackles followed by Connor Thiele with seven. Tommy Nelson had six tackles and one fumble recovery.

The offense struggled, but managed to get the job done.

“Offensively we had a lot of opportunities but failed to cash in on many of them. However, I like the way our kids stayed focused and stuck with the game plan,” said Anderson. “We were able to wear Bergan down a little bit in the 4th quarter and got our running game going and put it away.”

The first game of the season shows where the Knights excel and the areas that need more work to become a better, stronger team.

“This game really showed some of the things that we need to improve on.

We will play a very physical and discipline Battle Creek team who is rated in the top 4 so we have to make sure we have a great week of practice this week,” stated Anderson.

The Knights take on Battle Creek tomorrow night at 7:00 p.m. Come and show your support and cheer on the Knights to victory!
