Lyons-Decatur Northeast Convincingly Beats Bancroft-Rosalie

The Northeast Cougars opened their District Football play with a convincing 60-0 win over (0-4) Bancroft-Rosalie. The Cougars have a 2-2 season record and are 1-0 in district action.
Northeast pinned the Panthers deep in their territory on their initial possession. LDNE made the most of the field position as a fumble by the B-R quarterback turned into six points as Jon Christiansen recovered it in the end zone.
Montana Riecken blew the game wide open with three scoring runs in the first quarter. The junior quarterback had gallops of 42, 37 and 27 as LDNE built a 28-0 in the first quarter.
The Cougars mounted two scoring drives in the second quarter. Marcus Hegy had 8 and 1 yard scoring rushes. Hegy added a third score after half time. Benny Estrada broke a 72 yard run with 41 second to play.
“We came out of the bye week with an attitude,” said Coach Maresh. “Bancroft as always been a physical team and we were going to be more physical than them.”
The Coach added, “Cole Christoffersen did a good job of neutralizing the B-R nose guard. He’s taken on some pretty physical defenders this year and has handled them.”
The stats show how Northeast controlled the line of scrimmage. B-R had 27 rushes for 115 yards. The Cougars had 19 more snaps and gained 381 yards on the ground.
Northeast snuffed the Panthers’ passing attempt a they lost four yards. Northeast passed once for 29 yards. Total yards were 111 for B-R and 410 for LDNE.
Riecken showed his mastery of the read option as he gained 208 yards on 21 carries. He passed to Jon Christiansen for 29 yards. Marcus Hegy gained 96 on 17 tries. In clean-up action Benny Estrada gained 74 yards with 7 rushes and Jacob Whitaker gained 3 yards.
Jon Christiansen stood strong for the Cougar defense., The junior had 14 tackles from his corner position. He recovered a fumble and intercepted a pass.
Jayden Vetick had his best night at defensive end. Vetick made four tackles and was assisted in four more. He also had 2 TFLs. Both linebackers, Hegy and Shatto had seven tackles. Riecken had 6 tackles including a TFL.
Others recording tackles were Tyler Henneman with 4 and 1 caused fumble, Cole Christoffersen with 3 including a TFL, Jacob Whitaker 1, Dustin Burgett 1, Benny Estrada 4, Joey O’Connor 1, Nick Ronnfeldt 4, Tyler Kroger 5.
The Cougars will travel to Allen this Friday. The Eagles are 2-2 this season and coming off a 58-6 loss to Emerson-Hubbard.
