Flags to Fly at Half-Staff to Honor Victims of Florida Terror Attack


Lincoln – Today, Governor Pete Ricketts, in accordance with a proclamation from President Barack Obama, announced that all U.S. and Nebraska flags are to be flown at half-staff in honor of the victims of the act of terror in Orlando, Florida.

 

Flags will be flown at half-staff until sunset on June 16, 2016.

A PROCLAMATION 

As a mark of respect for the victims of the act of hatred and terror perpetrated on Sunday, June 12, 2016, in Orlando, Florida, by the authority vested in me as President of the United States by the Constitution and the laws of the United States of America, I hereby order that the flag of the United States shall be flown at half-staff at the White House and upon all public buildings and grounds, at all military posts and naval stations, and on all naval vessels of the Federal Government in the District of Columbia and throughout the United States and its Territories and possessions until sunset, June 16, 2016. I also direct that the flag shall be flown at half-staff for the same length of time at all United States embassies, legations, consular offices, and other facilities abroad, including all military facilities and naval vessels and stations.

Happenings at Oakland Heights


Oakland Heights News by Nancy Silvey

Had another nice weekend. On Monday June 13th we will be celebrating a 10 year employee anniversary for Christina Arnold, the party will be at 2:30 pm. On Tuesday June 14th we will be serving a Puttin on the Ritz Salad Luncheon for the residents at 11:30          am. Then on Thursday June 16th is the monthly Waffle Supper at 5:30 pm so come and enjoy dinner with your family member. Then on Saturday June 18th at 2:30 pm the Rusty Buckets will be here. We also have a resident celebrating a birthday next week, Happy Birthday to Iona Long on June 15th.

Church Service for Sunday June 12th at 2:30 pm will be given by the First Lutheran Church with a luncheon served afterwards. On Tuesday June 14th is Catholic Mass at 9:30 am given by Father Paul.

Activities for the week of June 13th to June 18th are as follows, Reading with Jill, Manicures, Sing a Long, Trivia , Bingo the w/Salem, Reading Group,   Bible Fellowship, Crafts, Let’s Play Ball, Crafty Cooking, Friday Bingo, Saturday morning video, and Lawrence Walk.

Volunteers signing in last week were; Judy Nelson, Mary Donavan, Anne Anderson, Patty Miller, Betty Hanna,   Bonnie Fleischman, Pat Anderson, Nadine Anderson, and Seth Anderson.

Guests signing in the guest book last week were: Ron and Mary Plageman to see Dorothy Larson. Kathy and Kevin Paul to see Margaret Moderow. Mark and Matt Benne to see Delwin Benne.

*If you are 60+ and need information on programs designed to help keep you in your home longer or if you need legal help, contact Connie at 402-648-3387 or in the evening at 402-648-7648. There are no membership fees or attendance requirements and new faces are always welcome.

* We have the following medical equipment to loan out on an as need basis, wheel chair, bath seats, toilet seat riser and portable toilet chair, crutches or walkers. Call 402-648-3387 during office hours.

Meals on Wheels

*Would you like to get Meals on Wheels? Anyone over the age of 60 years and lives within the city limits are eligible for these meals. You may sign up anytime for the Meals on Wheels program; you can get the meals delivered however many times you want them each week. You must call 402-687-2332 before 8:30 a.m. if you want a meal that day. The suggested donation for the meals is $4.00.

 

Weekly Activities:

Wed. June 8: Coffee time at 9:30 a.m. The melody chimers play at Legacy Gardens at 2:30 p.m. Rummikub or cards at 1:30 p.m.

Thurs. June 9: Tai Chi class at 9:30 a.m. and walking club at 10:40 a.m. Rolls and coffee from 9-11 a.m. Come and do the chair exercises with us at 1:00. Sign up to play in the pitch tournament at 1:30 p.m. Call to make a reservation for the noon meal tomorrow.

Fri. June 10: Pool players go to Wisner for a pool tournament. Sign up for the chicken noodle casserole meal we are having at noon today. Free blood pressure clinic at 11:40 a.m. Cards will be played after lunch.

Mon. June 13: Coffee time at 9:30 a.m. Come after lunch and play dominoes or cards.

Tues. June 14: Tai Chi class is at 9:30 a.m. Stop in for coffee at 10:00 a.m. Walking exercises 10:40 a.m. Chair Exercises at 1:00 p.m. Have you signed up to play in the pitch tournament at 1:30 p.m.?

Wed. June 15: Coffee time 9:30 a.m. There will be bingo at 2:00 p.m.
