New Pool to Open in Mid-June

The opening of the new Lyons pool has been delayed until mid-June, “The weather hasn’t cooperated much this winter and they need a couple more weeks to get everything completed,” stated Lyons Mayor Andy Fuston.

There are a few things that the mayor and city council asked to be taken care of.  “Standard construction things, it is normal. The decking is getting poured now and they are working on their punch list,” Fuston said. A punch list is items the city, engineer and general contractor pointed out to be fixed.

If the time frame changes for any reason, Kat Country Hub will report it.

Proud to Serve on Election Day

Frelon Danielson and Betty Hanna are two of many people who serve on the Burt County Election Board, assisting assisting voters of Oakland for many years. “I have been on the board for close to 60 years,” stated Frelon. Betty isn’t sure how many years she has served, “but I have done it for several years,” Betty said.

They can remember when the votes were counted at the polling place, the Oakland City Auditorium. “They were counted on the stage,” Betty stated. She is referring to the stage at the auditorium. “Now they have machines that do the counting,” Frelon said.

They arrive before the polls open at 8:00 a.m. and don’t stop working until after the polls close at 8:00 p.m. “I pick the ballots up the day before election at the courthouse then take them back to Tekamah once the polls are closed,” Frelon stated.

They both commented that not many people had come to vote. “There wasn’t as much to vote on locally, so maybe that is why,” Betty said. Those running for Oakland City Council and the Oakland-Craig School Board automatically moved to the November election.

Brasch Busy Campaigning!

“I have been very busy since session closed the middle of April,” said Senator Lydia Brasch. She has been spending much of her time campaigning, going from town to town, visiting with her constituents and handing out signs for voters to place in their yards. “I also had students visit with me for three days in Lincoln,” Senator Brasch stated.

She thoroughly enjoyed visiting with the children. “They were such fun. I enjoyed visiting with them,” Senator Brasch said.

Scott Japp, a board member for the NRD is challenging Senator Brasch for her seat.

Remember to vote today. It is your right!
