Norman Shamburg, 88 years, of Tekamah, Nebraska was born March 19, 1926 in Tekamah, to Jerome and Irma (Peck) Shamburg. He passed away Saturday, November 15, 2014 at Golden Living Center in Tekamah.

Norm, or “Jiggs” as many of his friends called him, grew up in the Tekamah area. Norm married Patricia Sackett on September 26, 1947, in Omaha. The two shared 67 years together.

After high school, Norm worked at Aronson Motors in Tekamah, up until the time he entered the air force. After he left the service, he returned to Nebraska. After having a few different jobs, he started at Texaco in Omaha, Nebraska, driving a gasoline transport. Norm was fond of working on cars, and in 1969 he purchased an auto parts store in Tekamah, which he operated until retirement. He was always a hard worker, and also had a great sense of humor.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Waldo, Kenneth, Jack and Dean; and grandson, Steven Scott Shamburg.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia; sons, Steve (Jodi) Shamburg, Dennis Shamburg, all of Tekamah, Nebraska; 5 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
MEMORIAL SERVICE: Wednesday, November 19, 2014, at 10:30 am at the First Presbyterian Church in Tekamah with a Masonic Service by Tekamah Masonic Lodge #31, A. F. & A. M. and Military Honors by the VFW Bataan Post No. 3304 and American Legion LaFrenz Post No. 15

Yvonne Shirley (Anderson) Stromquist, 79, of Oakland NE


Yvonne Shirley (Anderson) Stromquist, 79 years, of Oakland, Nebraska was born September 13, 1935 in Oakland to Leslie and Ellen (Seberg) Anderson. She passed away Sunday, November 16, 2014 at Oakland Heights in Oakland.

Yvonne attended a country school named Morningside District 17 until the 8th grade. After that, she attended Oakland High School, and graduated in 1952. Yvonne married Robert “Bob” Stromquist on April 25, 1952 in Marysville, Kansas. They first moved in with Bob’s brother Donny, and in 1953 they moved into their house on 108 N. Logan in Oakland. In 1959 Bob and Yvonne bought an acreage outside of Oakland, and moved their three children, Tim, Alan, and Laurie with them. While at the acreage, they had two more children, Marcia and Suzanne.

Yvonne helped Bob with his business by taking calls and staying home with their children. She was very active in the Evangelical Free Church, Ladies Aid and Mount Olive Extension Club. She loved to bowl, play cards, play pickle cards and spend time with her friends and family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Lyle Anderson; sister, Marianne Johnson; and son-in-law, Tom Hanna.

She is survived by her husband, Bob Stromquist; sons and daughters-in-law, Tim (Becky) Stromquist, Alan (Paula) Stromquist, all of Oakland; daughters and sons-in-law, Suzanne (Jeff) Johnson, of Norfolk, Nebraska, Marcia (Todd) Walters, of Greeley, Colorado, Laurie Hanna, of Norfolk; brother and sister-in-law, Clair “Butch” (Janice) Anderson, of Oakland; sister-in-law, Anne Anderson, of Lyons, Nebraska; 13 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and cousins.

FUNERAL SERVICE: Wednesday, November 19, 2014, at 2:00 pm, at the Evangelical Free Church in Oakland

VISITATION: Tuesday, November 18, from 4-7 pm with family receiving friends at Pelan Funeral Home in Oakland. Visitation will also be held at the church one hour prior to service.

Willis J. Kahl, 88, of Wakefield NE


Willis J. Kahl, 88, of Wakefield, Nebraska died on Friday, November 14, 2014 at the Wakefield Assisted Living in Wakefield, Nebraska. Funeral services for Willis will be held on Thursday, November 20, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Emerson; Pastor Gretchen Ritola will be officiating. The visitation will be held on Thursday morning at 9:00 and will run until the time of the funeral at the church. Burial with military honors will be held in the Wakefield Cemetery in Wakefield, Nebraska. Memorials are suggested to St. Luke’s Lutheran Church. Bressler – Munderloh – Smith Funeral Home of Wakefield is in charge of the arrangements.

Willis was born on June 10, 1926 in Sioux City, IA, the son of Willie and Rosa (Hoeck) Kahl. He grew up near Emerson, Nebraska, graduating from Emerson High School. Following school, Willis served in the United States Army during WW II. He was united in marriage to Evelyn Wennekamp on June 27, 1948. To this union four children were born: Dennis, Cheryl, Randy and Brent. The couple farmed near Wakefield. Later Willis worked for the Morrison Quirk Dehy Plant near Bancroft. They moved into Wakefield in 1995. In 2013, Willis moved into the Wakefield Assisted Living.

He was active in the Pops Partner 4-H Club, serving as a leader for several years. He also served on the Dixon County Fair Board, the Wakefield Hospital Planning Board, and the Livestock Feeders and Pork Feeders. Willis was a member of the Emerson American Legion and was an active member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church serving on the Church Council and as a Sunday School teacher. He also was a set builder for the Little Red Hen Theater in Wakefield.

Willis is survived by his wife Evelyn of Wakefield, NE, sons: Dennis (Nancy) Kahl of Seward, NE, Randy (Vicky) Kahl of Rancho Viejo, TX and Brent (Tatiana) Kahl of Indianapolis, IN and a daughter Cheryl (Warren) Johnson of Omaha, NE. He is also survived by thirteen grandchildren and ten great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Erma Jahn.
