Cheryl Tranmer Swanda, 70, of Fremont NE, Formerly of Oakland NE


CHERYL ANN (TRANMER) SWANDA was born October 7, 1944, in Oakland, Nebraska, to John and Ferne (Ekstrand) Tranmer. She passed away November 6, 2014 at her home in Fremont, Nebraska, surrounded by family, at the age of 70.

Cheryl attended kindergarten through eighth grade at the Tranmer Country School District No. 51 in rural Craig, NE, and later graduated from Lyons High School in 1962.

Cheryl married LeRoy Swanda, and they were blessed with two children, Kevin and Kellie.

Cheryl was a homemaker and her family was very important to her. She had a big heart, and once you became a friend, you were a friend for life. She was an active member of Al-Anon for 32 years, where she developed many close friends, and enriched her life.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Gary Tranmer.

Survivors include her special friend, Ron Roscoe of Fremont, NE and his daughter, Patty (Tom) Post of Chula Vista, CA; her daughter Kellie (Jeff) Johnson of Fremont; son, Kevin (Cindy) Swanda of Fremont; sister, Kathi (Jim) Gustin of Dakota City, NE; sister-in-law, Neva Tranmer of Lyons, NE; 7 Grandchildren, Samuel and Olivia Johnson, Tony, Cody and Emily Swanda, Cheyenne and Collin; many cousins, nieces and nephews.

FUNERAL SERVICE: Tuesday, November 11, 2014, 10:30 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church, Lyons, NE

VISITATION: Monday, November 10, 6 – 8 p.m. with the family receiving friends at Pelan Funeral Home in Lyons.  Visitation will also be held Tuesday one hour prior to service at the church.

BURIAL: Friday, November 14, 10:30 a.m. at the Lyons Cemetery.

James Robert Aronson, 60, of Herman NE


JAMES ROBERT ARONSON was born July 27, 1954, in Tekamah, Nebraska, to Robert William and Mabel Heath (Davis) Aronson. He passed away November 3, 2014 at his home in Herman, Nebraska, at the age of 60.

James attended and received his childhood education in Tekamah, graduating from Tekamah Herman High School in 1973. He attended Creighton University and became a nationally certified paramedic. He was licensed in the states of Nebraska and Iowa. James also received his LPN, becoming licensed in Minnesota and Nebraska.
On July 15, 1978, he was married to Jane Helen Sundell. They had two children, Amanda Jane and Jacob Kirkham.

On April 5, 1986, he was married to Nadine Kay Sorensen. They had two children, Abigail Anne and Joni Heather. In 1994, James and Nadine made their home in Warroad, Minnesota, where he worked as an auto and marine mechanic. James returned home to Nebraska in 2009.

James worked as a deputy for the Burt County Sheriff’s Office and was a member of Tekamah Volunteer Fire & Rescue. He spent several years working as a paramedic in Sioux City, Iowa. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge #31, A.F. & A.M. in Tekamah, as well as a member of the Tangier Shrine Temple.

James was an avid outdoorsman and Nebraska Fan. His favorite pastimes were hunting, fishing and watching Husker football, but his real love in life was spending time at Kirkhaven, the family cottage in Canada.

He was preceded in death by his infant sister, Margaret Aronson, in 1959.

Survivors include his parents, Robert and Mabel Aronson of Herman; sister and brother-in-law, Anne and Floyd Sheets of Tekamah; three daughters and sons-in-law, Mandy and Matt Gatewood of Omaha, NE, Abby and Alex Hassett of Fremont, NE, Joni Aronson and Josh Kappes of Thief River Falls, MN; son and daughter-in-law, Jake and Amanda Aronson of Tekamah; four grandsons, Clayton Aronson of Tekamah, Rex and Reed Hassett of Fremont, Jaden Kappes of Thief River Falls, MN; two nephews and nieces-in-law, Jesse and Abby Sheets of Herman, Casey and Trisha Sheets of Tekamah; niece and nephew-in-law, Amber and Ryan Walpole of Tekamah; seven great-nieces, one great nephew, and his beloved Lab, Ruby.

MEMORIAL SERVICE: Friday, November 7th, 2014, 10:30 a.m. at the St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Blair, Nebraska.

Harold E. Swanson, 76, of Pender, NE, passed away November 2, 2014 at Legacy Gardens Rehabilitation and Living Center in Pender, NE. Funeral services will be Wednesday, November 5, 2014 at 10:30 at the John Huss Presbyterian Church in Thurston, NE; Pastor Charity Potter will be officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday, November 4, 2014 from 3:00 until 7:00 p.m. with family present from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Munderloh-Smith Funeral Home in Pender, NE. Burial with military honors will be in Rosehill Cemetery in Pender, NE. Memorials may be directed to the family for future designation. Arrangements are under the direction of Munderloh-Smith Funeral Home in Pender, NE.

Harold was born January 19, 1938 in Pender, NE to Carl and Lula (Jasa) Swanson. In 1955, he graduated from Winnebago High School. After graduation, Harold joined the United States Army. He was united in to married Janis Hall on August 19, 1962 in Hoskins, NE. Harold was a member of John Huss Presbyterian Church in Thurston where he served on session. He was on Winnebago Presbyterian Church session and president of the hospital board. Harold was a lifelong farmer, who enjoyed being outside and planting trees. He loved to spend time with his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Janis Swanson of Pender, NE; sons; Timothy and Karen Swanson of Thurston, NE, Jeffrey and Liesa Swanson of Omaha, NE; daughter Marcie Swanson of Omaha, NE; sisters; Carol and Clayton Lofgren of West Point, NE, Jean and Paul Bodlak of Emerson, NE; brothers, Dale Swanson of Winnebago, NE, John and Penny Sanders of Council Bluffs, IA, four grandchildren: Sarah (Brian) Bode, Kevin Swanson (Melissa Machacek), Taylor Smith (Corey Iverson), and Brooke Swanson and four great grandchildren: Oliver and Thomas Bode, and Carter and Vincent Iverson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and many aunts and uncles.

Laurence James “Larry” Hultquist, 85, of Oakland NE


LAURENCE JAMES “LARRY” HULTQUIST, 85 years, of Oakland, Nebraska, passed away Friday, October 31, 2014, at Oakland Heights.

Laurence was born April 14, 1929, in Burt County, Nebraska, to Sherman and Zella (Marsolf) Hultquist. He was confirmed in 1942 at West Side United Methodist Church in rural Oakland. He graduated from Oakland High School in 1947 and farmed for his dad and Kermit Moseman from 1947 – 1951.

In January 1951, Laurence entered the U. S. Air Force, stationed at Lackland AF Base, San Antonia, Texas for basic training and Sheppard Field in Wichita Falls, Texas until 1954 where he trained for general aircraft maintenance. He unfortunately contracted polio and was hospitalized and discharged in 1954. His family returned to Oakland.  He battled polio for over six months. From Jan 1955 until March 55 he drove truck for Bob Case.

In March 1955, he reenlisted in the Air Force and was stationed at Offutt AF Base in Omaha for three years. In 1958 he was sent to Newfoundland. He returned home on emergency leave to help on the farm as his dad was injured in a farm accident.  In 1961, he served in Illinois and Michigan before being sent to Vandenberg AF Base in California. He returned to Offutt for a short time before being sent to Wheeliss AF Base in Lybia, Africa and was sent to  Spain for weather training on upper air balloons.  Returning to Africa, Laurence contracted hepatitis with complications of mononucleosis and was hospitalized for an extended time in Germany, New Jersey, St. Louis, Missouri and Chinute AF Base in Illinois and was then sent to Folk Field in Wisconsin. From 1967 to 1968, Laurence served in Viet Nam.  Before returning home, he was fortunate to spend two weeks R & R in Australia. Upon his return

to the states, he served his last five years at Ft. Warren in Cheyenne, Wyoming. He was honorably discharged in 1973.

Following his discharge he worked in commercial flooring in Cheyenne for 13 year before returning to Nebraska and farming.  Laurence also drove truck for Agland and CVA for many years before fully retiring in 2007.

Laurence was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Oakland.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Pamela Tate; sister, Deanna Betts; sister-in-law, Donna Hultquist; brother-in-law, Kermit Moseman.

Survivors include his son, Larry (Maggy) Hultquist of Tigard, OR; daughter, Sheila Keenan of Camas, WA; six grandchildren; five great grandchildren; sister, Lorelei (Jim) Wickstrom of Omaha, NE; brothers, Bill Hultquist of Oakland, Dewey (Myra) of Lyons, KS, Harold (Leona) of Fremont, NE; brother-in-law, Don Betts of Plainview, NE.

Alice M. Klintworth, 96, of Beemer, NE, passed away Friday, October 31, 2014 at Colonial Haven Nursing Home in Beemer, NE. Funeral Services will be Tuesday, November 4, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Bancroft, NE; Pastor Philip Hale will be officiating. Alice Marie (Schultz) Klintworth was born August 14, 1918, near Osmond, NE, to Ernest H. And Anna Lundwurm Schultz. She was baptized on September 22, 1918, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church at Osmond, NE, by Pastor F. Krause.

She was confirmed at Grace Lutheran Church in West Point, NE, by Rev. W. A. Kline on March 20, 1932.

She married Howard J. Klintworth January 17, 1940, in West Point, NE, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church by Pastor Olslaeger.

The couple farmed in the Dodge and Rosalie areas until Howard’s death on November 25, 1977, when she moved to Bancroft. Alice was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and St. Paul’s Ladies Aid. She taught Sunday School for many years. She belonged to St. Paul’s sewing Circle and marked many many quilts at the Bancroft Senior Center. She was a member of Valley View Extension club and was woman of achievement in 1983. She also was a member of the Bancroft Garden Club and enjoyed her many flowers.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Roxien Klintworth of Lyons, NE, and daughter and son-in-law, Don and Karen Blank of Nevada, IA, sister, Ella Rodick, 5 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

Alice is preceded in death by her husband, parents, brother and sister-in-law, Ervin and Elaine Schultz, brother-in-law, John Rodick, and great granddaughter, Emma E. Frank.

MARILYN A. SPARKS-   KINNING, 79 years, of Decatur, Nebraska, passed away Tuesday, October 28, 2014, at Pender Community Hospital in Pender, Nebraska.

Marilyn was born February 15, 1935, in Decatur, to Delmar and Fern (Kellogg) Stillman. She attended Decatur Public schools.

Marilyn was a cook and CNA for many years. On October 27 1951, Marilyn married Robert Sparks. They had four children. Robert passed away in 1990. On August 17, 1996, she married Delmar Kinning. He passed away in 2007.

Marilyn was an active member of the United Methodist Church in Decatur. She loved to crochet and play cards. She also loved going to the casino with friends and spending time with her family and friends. She will always be remembered for her famous chicken and noodles.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, Robert and Delmar; son, Robert “Myrna” Sparks, grandson, Cody Sparks; sisters, Naomi, Georgene, Ruby, Sharon and brothers, Kenneth, Arthur, Del Ray and Jonnie.

Survivors include her daughters, Shirley Lampkin and Donnie Greve, Barb and Roger Phillips all of Decatur, Marlene Graham of Lyons, NE; daughter-in-law, Cindy Sparks of Lyons; grandchildren, Melissa and Daniel Rascon of Fremont, NE, Kellie and Jose Ramos of South Sioux City, NE, Becky Sparks of Blair, NE, Katie, Kyle and Molly Phillips of Decatur, Angela and David Whitley of Lyons, Robert Sparks Jr. of Decatur, Amanda and T.J.
