Donald C. Chambers, 83, of Wakefield, Nebraska died on Friday, September 26, 2014 at Providence Medical Center in Wayne, Nebraska. Graveside memorial services will be held on Friday, October 3, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the Wakefield Cemetery in Wakefield, Nebraska. Military honors will be presented by the Wakefield American Legion Post #81.

Don was born on June 16, 1931 in Wakefield, Nebraska, the son of James and Vera Chambers. He graduated from Wakefield High School in 1949. In 1951, he entered the United States Army, serving during the Korean War. After leaving the service he returned to Wakefield, where he farmed.

Don was a member of the Wayne VFW Post #5291 and the Wakefield American Legion Post #81. He enjoyed farming, having coffee in town, horse racing and his cats.

He is survived by several cousins including: David Chambers, Merlin Chambers, Margie Alice Armfield, Dale Mikkelson, Leola Chambers, Jack Cook and Barb Stanton.

Sandra Sue “Sandy” Stork, 70, of Tekamah NE


SANDRA SUE “SANDY” STORK passed from this life Friday, September 26, 2014.  She was born on October 27, 1943,  to Clyde V. and Mary A. (Weber) Stork. She grew up on the family farm near Tekamah, Nebraska, and continued to be involved in its operation throughout her life.

Sandy graduated from Tekamah High School in 1962. She was a dedicated participant in 4-H during her high school years, winning many awards for food, sewing, and speech. She also showed Shorthorn cattle, for which she earned the distinction of being chosen Shorthorn Lassie Queen by the Nebraska Shorthorn Association.

In 1966, Sandy earned the degree of Bachelor of Science in Food and Nutrition from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. She then went on to attain her master’s degree from Case Western Reserve in Cleveland, Ohio in 1969.

Sandy began her professional career as an Outpatient Clinical Dietitian at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha.  In 1974 she was promoted to the position of Assistant Director of the Department of Dietetics, and in 1978 she became the Director of the Department of Clinical Dietetics at the University of Nebraska Medical Center.  She was instrumental in the creation and initiation of the dietetic internship at the University of Nebraska Medical Center.  Most recently she taught Nutrition to nursing students at the Nebraska Methodist College as well as to culinary students at the Metropolitan Community College – Institute for the Culinary Arts in Omaha.  She was a gifted, engaging, and loved teacher who was able to not only see the potential in others but who was also able to help them reach that potential.  Known for her creative, personable, seasoned-with-humor teaching style, Sandy easily related to students at all levels.

Sandy lovingly cared for her bed-ridden mother in their home for many years, and then later, also devotedly provided home care for her father.

Her personal relationship with Jesus Christ was most important to her and that relationship was visible in her daily life.  Sandy was known for her steady, measured, and wise counsel.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters, Mary Alice Stokes Brown and Patricia June Stokes Hovendick; nephew, Mike Brown.

Those left to fondly remember her are her dearest friend, Barbara Robertson;  brother-in-law, Earl Hovendick; nephews and niece, Earl Jr. “Butch”, Kevin and Tim Hovendick, Christy Reser, Jeff and Steven Brown;  many other relatives and friends.

FUNERAL SERVICE: Friday, October 3, 2014, 10:00 a.m. at the Tekamah City Auditorium, 1315 K Street, Tekamah, Nebraska.

VISITATION: Thursday, October 2, 2014, 4 – 8 p.m. at Pelan Funeral Home in Tekamah. Visitation will also be held Friday one hour prior to the service at the auditorium in Tekamah.

Patricia Sue Shaw, 60, of Decatur NE


PATRICIA SUE SHAW was born to David and Mary Jane (Hale) Farber November 17, 1953, in Decatur Nebraska.  She passed away September 24, 2014, at Burgess Memorial Hospital in Onawa, Iowa, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer, at the age of 60 years, 10 months, and 7 days.

Patricia attended Decatur High School and graduated in the class of 1972.  She received her associate’s degree as a Licensed Practical Nurse at Western Iowa Tech Community College in Sioux City, Iowa.  This led to a lifelong career in nursing, doing what she loved, caring for others.  She worked most recently in Whiting, Iowa, for Dr. John Garred Sr. and Dr. John Garred Jr.

On April 28, 1978, Patti was married to Lester Shaw in Decatur.  They lived most of their lives in Decatur.  They enjoyed traveling and spending time with family and friends.
Patti was known for her kindness, caring, and wit.  Her crazy accents, jokes, and blunt perspective could make anyone smile.   Her friends and family were of utmost importance to her.  She took pride in having numerous friends, and in being the best friend she could be to others.  She had a passion for holidays, animals, flowers, and Nebraska football.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Decatur, were she served on the administrative council, a member of the Younger United Methodist Sisterhood, and community volunteer. Her faith was strong and perpetual.

Patti was preceded in death by her brother, Mike Farber; grandparents, Harold and Margaret (Doolittle) Hale, Bruce and Sadie (Pound) Farber; father and mother-in-law, Ernest and Iva (Glidden) Shaw.

Survivors include her parents, David and Mary Jane Farber of Decatur; husband, Lester Shaw of Decatur; daughter and son-in-law, Kiley and Andy Taylor of Lincoln, NE; son, David Shaw of Omaha, NE; granddaughter, Beyna Taylor; countless friends, cousins, nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles.
