Joan M. Racely, 84, of Pender, Nebraska passed away Monday, August 4, 2014 at Legacy Gardens in Pender, Nebraska.

Funeral services for Joan will be held on Thursday, August 7, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at the United Church of Pender in Pender, Nebraska; Pastor Steven Breazier will be officiating. The visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Munderloh – Smith Funeral Home in Pender with the family present from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Burial will be in Rosehill Cemetery in Pender, NE. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the United Church of Pender.

LeRoy L. Hovendick, 60 of Tekamah NE


LEROY L.  HOVENDICK, 60 years, of Tekamah, Nebraska, passed away peacefully at his home in Tekamah with his family by his side on Wednesday, July 30, 2014, after his year-long battle with cancer.

LeRoy was born August 1, 1953, in Tekamah to LeRoy and Ria (Bladel) Hovendick. He graduated from Tekamah Herman High School in 1972. In 1974, he entered the U. S. Army. Upon his discharge in 1979, he worked as a mechanic, various construction jobs, farmed and in 1988 began working for Waste Management as a heavy machine operator.

On May 9, 1982, LeRoy married Linda Dewhurst, a mother of six children, in Blair, Nebraska.

LeRoy enjoyed many various hobbies which included his love for taking his children fishing and boating. He enjoyed working on old cars and helping others fix theirs. He also enjoyed watching his sons play football and wrestle. As his family grew, he enjoyed watching his many grandchildren play sports, which put his hobby of photography to use. He enjoyed loading up the car and taking day trips to various state parks. LeRoy loved the snow, his favorite season was winter. He had a passion for gardening. He would use his vegetables in various meals that accompanied the meats he smoked. One of his greatest passions was riding his Harley Davidson trike with his wife and giving children and grandchildren rides.

He was preceded in death by his parents; Granny Viola, uncle, Wayne Loftis, and his loving dogs, Taffy “Yoda” and Sissy.

Survivors include his wife, Linda of Tekamah; sister and brother-in-law, Patricia and Lyle Bohannan of Herman, NE; nephews and their families; daughter and family, Michelle Tranmer of Sioux City, IA, three grandchildren, Kaj (two great grandchildren, Bridgette and Breanna), Drew and Katlyn; son, daughter-in-law and family, Jimmie and Charity Metzler of Oakland, NE, three grandchildren, Caylie, Allyssia and Jarron; son and family Martin Metzler of Tekamah, two grandchildren,  Alexander and Benjamin; daughter and family, Shawnelle Metzler of Branson West, MO, two grandchildren, Shelby and Shaley; son, daughter-in-law and family, Jamie and Lindsey Metzler of Oakland, four grandchildren, Wade,  Kourtnie, Jarrod and Keaten; daughter, son-in-law and family, Richelle and Ryan Oberg of Westmoreland, KS, three grandchildren, Zach, Logan and Brennan; many loving friends and co-workers.
 
MEMORIAL GATHERING: Sunday August 10, 2014, 3:00 pm, at the Hovendick family home, 221 North 11th Street, Tekamah, NE, with refreshments and lunch around 5pm.

James H. Weiler, age 73, of Omaha, Nebraska formerly of West Point, Nebraska and Lyons, Nebraska passed away July 26th, at his home surrounded by his loved ones. Memorial services will be held on Tuesday, July 29th, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Vincent de Paul Church in Omaha. Visitation will be one hour prior to service time at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to: Dowd Memorial Chapel, Boys Town, Nebraska.

Jim loved riding horses and attending the sporting events of his children & grandchildren. Jim touched many people’s lives, including his Boys Town family.

Jim was preceded in death by parents, Martin and Marie Weiler; brother, Martin Weiler, Jr.; and father-in-law, John Baumert.

He is survived by wife, Jeanine; sons, Mark and friend, Sarah of Omaha, Dan (Kristin), Phoenix, AZ; daughters, Pam (Craig) Knock, Toledo, IA, Kim (Gary) Carlson, Elkhorn; grandchildren, Kailee and Lyndsey Weiler, McKenna and Mitchell Knock, Jacob, Danielle and Brooke Carlson.

Christina Anne Swope, 58 of Tekamah NE


CHRISTINA ANNE SWOPE was born April 16, 1956, in Omaha, Nebraska, to Harry and Wauneta (Peters) Dinnel. She passed away suddenly on Thursday, July 24, 2014, at home in Tekamah, Nebraska, at the age of 58 years.

On June 12, 1972, she married Kim Walter Swope in Julesburg, Colorado. They lived most of their lives in Omaha, Nebraska. She worked for Max I Walker dry cleaners for a number of years. They relocated their family to a farm in Herman, Nebraska in August 1987 to provide the country experience. She loved to garden, spend time with her grandchildren, and dance. Her husband, Kim, died on August 7, 1997. Following his untimely death, she moved to Blair, Nebraska. In 2011, she moved to Tekamah,where she settled on the farm with her special friend, Clark Lipps.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Kim.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Michelle Pizzimenti and Paul Jackson of Fremont, NE; two sons and daughters-in-law, Jason and Angie Swope of Sidney, NE, Jesse Swope and Megan Rasmussen of Blair; special friend, Clark Lipps of Tekamah; sister and brother-in-law, Allyson and Steve Otten of Omaha; two brothers, James and Harry Dinnel of Wichita, KS; nine granddaughters and three grandsons; one great granddaughter.

Susan Reppert, 61 of West Point, NE


Susan Reppert, age 61, of West Point, Nebraska passed away on July 22, 2014 at St. Francis Memorial Hospital in West Point after a lengthy battle with breast cancer. Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 25, 2014, at 10:30 a.m. at St Paul Lutheran Church in West Point, NE. Interment will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery in West Point. Visitation will be on Thursday, July 24th, from noon until 8p.m. with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Minnick Funeral Home in West Point. The family suggests memorials be directed to St. Paul Lutheran School in West Point, Nebraska. Minnick Funeral Home in West Point is in charge of arrangements.

Susan Reppert was born on February 22, 1953, to Forrest and Elaine (Minds) Hansen. She attended country school at District #40, and graduated from Wisner-Pilger High School in 1971. She attended Immanuel School of Nursing and graduated with her nursing diploma in 1974. On September 1, 1979 she was united in marriage to Clay Reppert at Christ Lutheran Church in Wisner, NE.

When her children were young Susan played on a softball league, taught Sunday School, and was a 4-H leader. Susan enjoyed taking care of the elderly and worked for many years as the Director of Nursing at Oakland Heights Nursing Home. She raised many litters of kittens & grew great gardens of flowers and vegetables at her farm just outside of West Point. No activity brought her greater joy though, than spending time with her family, especially her grandkids. She credits them for giving her the strength to fight her battle for as long as she did.
