Julie Sherrel Nelsen, 55, a resident of Fredonia, Kansas,formerly of Lyons, Nebraska passed away Monday, July 21, 2014, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 24, 2014. at the Zion Lutheran Church in Independence, Kansas with Rev. Roland Vega officiating. Burial will be in the White Cemetery near Lafontaine, Kansas. The family will receive friends at Timmons Funeral Home on Wednesday, 5-7 p.m. Memorials have been established in Julie’s name for Nathan Nelsen’s College Fund; USD 484 Education Foundation for FHS Music Department, or Wilson County 4-H, and contributions can be sent to or left with Timmons Funeral Home. Julie was born March 6, 1959 in Granite City, Illinois, the daughter of Earl and Violet (Parsons) Brunton. She graduated from Lyons High School, Lyons, Nebraska in 1977 and from Northeast Community College, Norfolk, Nebraska with an associate’s degree in business in 1979.

Julie married Mark Nelsen at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Lyons, Nebraska on June 20, 1981. Since moving to Kansas in 1996, she was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Independence, Kansas. The past 15 years, she was employed at Fredonia High School as the treasurer and bookkeeper. Currently Julie was a leader of the Sunflower-Go-Getters 4-H Club, treasurer of the FFA Alumni, and superintendent of the Rabbit Division of the Wilson County Fair. She was a strong supporter of the Fredonia School System, especially music, sports and agriculture. Some things Julie really enjoyed were creating and decorating cakes, especially wedding cakes and grandchildren’s birthday cakes. She kept track of their cattle, loved planting and caring for her flowers and garden, and was an avid Cornhusker fan.

HELEN LOUISE CLIFFORD, 92 years, of Fremont, Nebraska, formerly of Uehling, Nebraska, passed away Friday, July 11, 2014, at A.J. Merrick Manor in Fremont.

Helen was born September 25, 1921, in Octavia, Nebraska to William and Carolyn (Strate) Woodrich.

On June 13, 1938, Helen married Otto A. McDonald in Pender, Nebraska. To this union three daughters were born, Carol Ann, Ellen Louise and Jo Jean Sharon. Otto passed away June 13, 1951. Helen married Raymond “Stub” Clifford on February 16, 1952, in Omaha, Nebraska, to this union a daughter, Donna Rae, was born.

Helen was a member of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Tekamah. She was a homemaker, gardener and great cook.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Otto McDonald and Raymond Clifford; brother, William “Bill” Woodrich; sisters, Alice Kiser and Ann Wachtler.

Survivors include her daughters, Carol Mines (Fiancé, Lyle Koneig)of Beatrice, NE, Ellen (Gene) Rogers of Omaha, NE,  Jeanie Lydick of Bennington, NE, Donna (Ron) Snover of Lincoln; nine grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren.

Lynn Joseph Johnson, 66 of Walthill, Nebraska passed away Wednesday, July 9, 2014 at his home surrounded by his family. Memorial services will be held Monday, July 14, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at the Rosalie Town Hall in Rosalie, NE; with Pastor Paul Malcomson officiating. Memorials may be directed to the family for future designation. Arrangements are under the direction of Munderloh – Smith Funeral Home in Pender, NE.

Lynn was born March 21, 1948, in Sioux City, IA to Helen Johnson. He graduated from Winnebago High School. From there he was drafted in to the U.S. Army and served one year in Vietnam.

On March 26, 1982 Lynn married Desiree Walker. They were together for 33 years. Lynn had many jobs over the years: serving as a police officer, quality control personnel, and teaching industrial arts. Lynn loved being outside, riding his Harley, spending time with his grandchildren and taking care of all his animals.

Lynn is survived by his wife Desiree, his two sons, Jason and Aaron Johnson, 2 step daughters, Donna Young and Diona Doenhoefer, two adopted daughters, Ginny and Gail. Numerous grandchildren, a brother Steve Moore and a sister, Cheryl Torres.

Lynn is preceded in death by his mother, Helen and a brother James Moore.

Deloy “Gil” Gerald Gilster, 76, of Allen, Texas, passed away Friday, July 11, 2014 surrounded by his family at his home in Allen, TX from pancreatic cancer. A Memorial service for Deloy will be held Sunday, July 13, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. at Christ the Servant Lutheran Church in Allen, TX; with Pastor Gordon Illausky officiating. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 16, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Pender, NE; with Pastor Gordon Illausky and Pastor Miles Ruch officiating. Visitation will be held Tuesday, July 15, 2014 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Munderloh – Smith Funeral Home in Pender, NE. Burial with military honors will be in the Bancroft Cemetery in Bancroft, NE. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to the Ronald McDonald House. Arrangements are under the direction of Munderloh – Smith Funeral Home in Pender, NE.

Deloy was born on April 1, 1938 in Lyons, NE to his parents Gerald and Delores Gilster. He married Karen Bargmann on October 1, 1961. Together they had three children.

After he graduated from Rosalie High School, in 1956, he entered the U.S. Navy where he served for four years as an air traffic controller. Upon return he spent 50 years as a salesman for Central Soya, ConAgra, ADM, and many others. In addition, he found time to run three businesses, referee countless football, basketball, baseball, and softball games at both the high school and college level. Anyone who knew him was aware of his love for the Cornhuskers. He attended over 300 of their football games in Lincoln and elsewhere. He also enjoyed his charity work for National Kidney Foundation, Ronald McDonald House and fundraising for church organizations.

Deloy is survived by wife Karen, Allen, TX, sons Steve and wife Rhonda of Allen, TX, Bryce and wife Tammy of Norwalk, IA, daughter LaRee and husband Dan of Johnston, IA, his mother Delores Hunt of Emerson, NE, brother Larry and wife Diane of Farmersville, TX, sister-in-law’s Ruthann Bargmann, Bancroft, NE, and Sherri Bruns and husband Ron, Pender, NE, and his six grandchildren: Zachary, Jessica, Alexandra, Joseph, Rachel, and Anna along with many nieces and nephews.

Deloy is preceded in death by his father, Gerald and granddaughter Abigail Gilster.

William “Bill” Frangenberg, 87 of Lyons, NE


WILLIAM “BILL” FRANGENBERG, 87 years, of Lyons, Nebraska, passed away Thursday, July 10, 2014, at Oakland Mercy Hospital in Oakland, Nebraska.

William Frederick Frangenberg was born November 8, 1926, on a farm west of Marcus, Iowa, to Frederick  “Fred” and Cecilia (Knittle) Frangenberg. His family moved to Lyons when he was 10 years of age. He received his education at the Lyons Public Schools.

Bill left school at the age of 15 years and started driving truck for Bud Meyers. He drove truck and was a heavy equipment operator during his adult life. He retired from Brehmer Manufacturing in 2011. He had worked for over 70 years.

Bill served in the U. S. Army during World War II and was honorably discharged in 1946. He was a member of the Harvey Lenig American Legion Post No. 83 and Robert Klase VFW Post No. 7998 for 70 years.

In December 1985, Bill and Fern Hayes were married at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Lyons. Bill was a life-long member of St. Joseph’s, where he served as head usher for many years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant brother; sisters, Mary and Agnes; wife, Fern; step children, Rosie Schulke and Paul Hayes Jr. “Bucky”.

Survivors include his sisters and brother, Dorothy, Rosanna and Catherine Frangenberg all of Omaha, NE, and Robert (Ingrid) Frangenberg of Oakland, CA, Helen (Frank) Stholl of Ft. Garland, CO; step children,  Helen (Lawrence) Drummond of Lyons, Tim (Gail) Hayes of Lincoln, NE; many step grandchildren and step great grandchildren and step great-great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL: Tuesday, July 15, 2014, 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Lyons.

BURIAL: Lyons Cemetery with Military Honors by Robert Klase VFW Post No. 7998 and Harvey Lenig American Legion Post No. 83 of Lyons.

VISITATION: Monday 5 – 7 p.m. with the family receiving friends and 7:00 p.m. Wake Service all at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. Visitation Tuesday will also be held at the church one hour prior to the service.

Nancy Lee (Rickert) Wallerstedt, 78 of Oakland, NE


NANCY LEE (RICKERT) WALLERSTEDT was born June 11, 1936, at home in Decatur, Nebraska, to Elmer and Mattie (Andersen) Rickert. She passed away peacefully in the comfort of her home in rural Oakland on Wednesday, July 9, 2014, at the age of 78 years.

Nancy graduated from Oakland High School in 1953. In 1954, she married the love of her life, Norman Wallerstedt, at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Oakland, where she was also baptized and confirmed.

Nancy loved her Lord and loved serving her church. She was a member of First Lutheran’s women’s organization for 57 years, served on the Altar Committee many years and was a member of Koinonia Bible Study.  As a member of the Junior Women’s Club for 23 years, she served in all offices and was selected as Outstanding Club Woman of the Year in 1974. Nancy also worked on the Oakland Community Improvement Committee and Swedish Festival. She was a member of the Scandinavian Folk Dancers and promoted Oakland’s Swedish heritage at many events, including Governor Ben Nelson’s   inauguration. Her love of dancing also led to 20 years with the Swingaways Square Dance Club. Nancy was a 10-year member of the Burt County Extension Club, a member of Oakland Mercy Hospital Auxiliary, serving in various offices and served on the Bell Creek Township election board for many years.

Nancy loved her family dearly. She enjoyed birds, her pets, flowers and gardens and especially loved mowing her yard. Highest on her list, though, was working alongside Norman on the farm. Whether they were walking beans, tending gardens, decorating their home or putting up Christmas lights, everything was made more beautiful when Nancy touched it. Her family reaped the benefits of that care and creativity every time they were with her.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Denise Blair; infant sister, Betty and her parents.

Survivors include her husband, Norman of Oakland; son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Terry of Oakland; sisters, Donna (Gerald) Larson of Uehling, NE; Deb (Jon) Radebaugh of Omaha, NE;  eight grandchildren:  Jeff Blair, Lauren Blair, Whitney (Joe) Julian, Josh (Sara) Wallerstedt, Kelsey (Josh) Gillman, Kiersten Wallerstedt, James Wallerstedt and  Jesse Wallerstedt;  six great grandchildren, River, Grace, Emma, Waverly, Lydia and Elliot.
