Charlotte J. Morgan, 82, of Blair, NE, formerly of Walthill, NE, passed away Saturday, July 5, 2014 at Memorial Community Hospital in Blair, NE. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, July 8, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Walthill, Nebraska; Fr. Dan Wittrock will be officiating. The visitation will be held on Monday, July 7, 2014 from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the church with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Walthill. Memorials may be directed to the family. Arrangements are under the direction of Munderloh – Smith Funeral Home in Pender, NE.

Charlotte was born on October 1, 1931 in Fort Dodge, IA, the daughter of George and Josephine (Main) McBride. She attended and graduated from Castana High School in Castana, IA in 1950. On June 29, 1951, she married Leo Morgan in Onawa, IA. To this union six children were born. She worked for a time as a teacher’s assistant at the Walthill Public School. Charlotte was a member of the Walthill Commercial Club Auxiliary, the Walthill Fireman’s Auxiliary, and the St. Joseph Catholic Church Ladies Aid. She was also a Cub Scout den mother, a member of the Super 66 Race Team, and the ladies bowling league. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting, hunting and camping.

She is survived by sons; Leonard and Beverly Morgan of Sergeant Bluff, IA, Michael and Janice Morgan of Crestwood, KY, Patrick and Rhonda Morgan of Madison, NE, Earl “Bud” and Cathy Morgan of Blair, NE, daughter; Sandra Terveer of Winterset, IA; sister-in law Shirley McBride of Kenosha, WI; brother Marvin McBride of Kenosha, WI and a brother-in-law Merlyn Jensen of Gowrie, IA, thirteen grandchildren and twenty-one great grandchildren.

Charlotte was preceded in death by her husband Leo, a son Gary, parents, parents-in-law, a granddaughter Elizabeth, brothers William McBride and Earl McBride, sisters Wilma Jensen and Bessie (Orval) Mauch, and a sister-in-law Mary McBride.

Lois Jean (Sorensen) Schmidt


LOIS JEAN (SORENSEN) SCHMIDT, 80 years, of Oakland, Nebraska, passed away Friday, July 4, 2014, at Creighton Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska.

Lois was born November 11, 1933, in Florence, Minnesota to Peter and Emma (Brue) Sorensen. She attended grade school in Minnesota and high school in Bancroft, Nebraska. When her parents returned to Minnesota, Lois chose to stay in Nebraska.  She worked at an egg processing plant in West Point and later at Campbell’s Soup Company and Schweser’s in Fremont, Nebraska.

On January 30, 1954, Lois married Peter O. Schmidt of Oakland at First English Lutheran Church in Russell, Minnesota. They made their home on the Schmidt family farm in rural Oakland. In 1966, they moved into Oakland, where Pete started a corn shelling and trucking business.

Lois was a homemaker and helped with Pete’s business. She loved flowers and working in her yard. She also enjoyed collecting teddy bears and decorating her home. Most of all she loved spending time with her family and friends and looked forward to visits from her grandchildren.

Lois was active at Golden Oakland Senior Center and currently served on the board of directors.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Lloyd, Marvin and Robert; sisters, Viola and Violet; grandson, Benjamin.

Survivors include her husband, Peter of Oakland; sons and daughters-in-law, Randy and Mary Schmidt of Cedar Falls, IA, Timothy and Rosa Schmidt of Oakland; daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Kent Andersen of Oakland; five grandchildren, Aleah Unwin of Omaha, NE, Samuel Schmidt of Oakland, Kaleb (Luryn) Andersen of Oakland; Maxwell (Paige) Andersen of Manhattan, KS, William Andersen of Oakland; two great grandchildren, Jacob Unwin and Olivia Unwin of Oakland; brothers and sisters-in-law, Melvin and Florence Sorensen of St. Francis, MN, Gary and Carol Sorensen of Princeton, MN, Nancy Sorensen of Sturgeon Lake, MN; many nieces and nephews.

Eunice was born on March 21, 1927 in Bloomfield, Nebraska, the daughter of Carl and Anna (Bentjen) Wennekamp. She attended and graduated from Thurston High School. On June 1, 1947, Eunice was united in marriage to Willis Krusemark at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Pender, Nebraska. To this union five children were born: Leon, Tim, Yvonne, Cindy and Nancy. The couple farmed near Pender and Emerson before moving into Pender in 1981. On September 24, 1998, Willis died. In 2000, Eunice moved to Lincoln, Nebraska to be closer to her children.

She was involved in church circles at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Pender and later at Southwood Lutheran Church in Lincoln. Her family remembers her famous foods including: Texas Sheet Cake, M&M Birthday Cake, Cinnamon Rolls, Crepe Pancakes and her dill pickles just to name a few. Eunice enjoyed her gardening and her flowers. Most of all she loved her family.

Eunice is survived by her sons, Leon (Sharon) Krusemark of Denton, Ne Tim (Rita) Krusemark of Lincoln, NE; daughters, Yvonne Krusemark of North Richland Hills, TX, Cindy (Jim) Jones and Nancy (Tony) Pekny both of Lincoln, NE, sister Evelyn (Willis) Kahl of Wakefield, NE, 11 grandchildren: Brandon (Becky) Krusemark, Kali (Clint) Bruna, Corey (Kristin) Brown, Trent (Melody) Brown, Eric (Emily) Pekny, Matthew Pekny, Ryan (Candra) Pekny, Sarah Krusemark, Jalen Krusemark, Cameron Jones and Brandon Jones and 18 great grandchildren: Rachel, Rebecca, Nathan and Abigal Brown, Meeka and Damon Brown, Chancie, Royanne, Beau, Berkley and Willis Pekny, MaKayla and Landon Almond, Colton and Dannon Pekny, Avery and Noah Pekny and Sara Kicak and a Bruna baby on the way.

Ruby C. Duncan, 84, of Thurston, Nebraska died on Monday, June 30, 2014 at the Heritage of Emerson Nursing Home. Funeral services for Ruby will be held on Thursday, July 3, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Pender; Pastor Miles Ruch will be officiating. The visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Pender. Burial will be in the Rosehill Cemetery of Pender. Ruby was born on August 6, 1929 in Wakefield, Nebraska, the daughter of Herman and Edna (Lawton) Kai. She attended school at Pender and was united in marriage to Kenneth LeRoy Duncan on August 27, 1949 in North Bend, Nebraska. To this union three children were born: Candace, Kevin and Jim. The couple lived on a farm northeast of Thurston, later moving into Thurston in 1956. Ruby was a member of the Thurston American Legion Auxiliary and the Happy Hour Club. She enjoyed reading, ceramics, gardening, baking and playing cards and having coffee with her friends. Most of all she enjoyed her family.

Ruby is survived by a son Kevin Duncan(Severt Philleo) of Dallas, TX, Candi (Leo) Richtermeier of Ponca, NE, daughter-in-law Adell Duncan of Norfolk, NE, a sister Sibyl Kai of Bancroft, NE, sister-in-law Connie Kai of Omaha, NE, brothers: Paul (Rosemary) Kai of Oakland, NE, Glenn (Roberta) Kai of Bancroft, NE, Robert (Glenda) Kai of Lincoln, NE, August (Janet) Kai of Aurelia, IA and a brother-in-law Marvin Duncan of Hubbard, NE. She is also survived by six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband LeRoy, son Jim, an infant daughter, brothers Floyd and Chuck Kai and sisters Alyce Schleusener and Annabelle Kai.
