Preston Jay Turner, 26 of Fremont, NE


PRESTON JAY TURNER, 26 years, of Fremont, Nebraska, passed away, Sunday, May 25, 2014, as a result of injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident near Elkhorn, Nebraska.

Preston was born August 22, 1987, to Douglas J. and Amy J. (Schaferman) Turner in Fremont, Nebraska.

Preston graduated from Elkhorn High School in 2006 and from University of Nebraska-Omaha in 2011 with a degree in Criminal Justice. He was currently employed at McDaniel Walquist and The Bullet Hole, both in Omaha.

Preston loved hunting with his dad and Grandpa Turner, getting a buck on his first season out in 2009. He had several passions including riding his Harley Davidson and was looking forward to his first trip to Sturgis this coming August. He recently became involved in BACA (Bikers Against Child Abuse). His work at The Bullet Hole allowed him to pursue another great hobby he had of gun collecting. He loved just spending time with his friends and family, and was always the first to offer help to anyone of them who needed it. Preston was the negotiator, the storyteller, the one to bring light into the room. Most of all he was a compassionate and loving son, brother, grandson and friend. He will be deeply missed by all of those who had the privilege of knowing him.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Robert L. Schafersman of Hooper and aunt, Cynthia L. Lechner of Omaha.

Survivors include his parents, Douglas J. Turner and Amy J. and Kevin M. Lemmers all of Fremont; two  sisters, Kelsey Turner and Sidnee Lemmers and two brothers, Gage Lemmers and Chase Lemmers; grandparents, Donna and LaVerne Lamprecht, Norman and Laura “Beth” Turner all of Fremont; aunt, Sandra (Dexter) Pate of San Angelo, TX; uncle, Bryan (Sharla) Turner of Carrolton, TX; cousins, Jessie Lechner of Omaha, NE, Logan and Trace Turner of Carrolton, TX; special friend, Angie Proctor; and a large extended family of aunts, uncles and cousins.

FUNERAL SERVICE: Saturday, May 31, 2014, 10:30 a.m. at Bethany Lutheran Church, 4200 N. 204th Street, Elkhorn, NE

VISITATION: The family will receive friends Friday, May 30th from 4 – 7 p.m. at Bethany Lutheran Church in Elkhorn.

BURIAL: Private Family Burial

Harold O. Tell, 84, of Wayne, Nebraska died on Monday, May 26, 2014 at Providence Medical Center in Wayne, Nebraska. Funeral services for Harold will be held on Thursday, May 29, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Wakefield; Pastor Kelly Johnston will be officiating. The visitation will be held on Wednesday from 3:00 until 8:00 p.m. with the family present from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the Bressler – Munderloh – Smith Funeral Home in Wakefield. Burial with military rites will be in the Wakefield Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Wakefield Heritage Organization and the C&NW Historical Train Depot in Wakefield.

Max is loved by his parents Andrew and Joani, a brother Nathan and a sister Madelyn. Max is also survived by his grandparents Roger and Jo Ann Paulsen of Emerson, NE and Anthony and Connie Franzluebbers of Dodge, NE, a great-grandma Mildred Carlson of Neola, IA and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Ruth M. Mattes, 93, of Allen, NE passed away Monday, May 19, 2014 at Hillcrest Care Center in Laurel, NE. Funeral services will be held Friday, May 23, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Martinsburg, NE; with Pastor William Bertrand officiating. A visitation will be held on Thursday, May 22, 2014 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church with a prayer service starting at 7:00 p.m. Burial will be in Eastview Cemetery in Allen, NE. Arrangements are under the direction of Bressler-Munderloh-Smith Funeral Home in Wakefield, NE.

Ruth Marie (Kubik) Mattes was born on April 2, 1921 in Pender, Nebraska, the daughter of Frank and Emma (Zvacek) Kubik. Ruth attended schools in Thurston County and graduated in 1939 from Emerson High School. After graduation she attended Normal School and taught rural school in Thurston and Dixon Counties for five years.

On December 23, 1944, she was united in marriage to Francis Mattes at Trinity Lutheran Church in Martinsburg, NE. They were blessed with three children, Douglas, Linn and Trudy. The couple farmed in Dixon County for all their married life. The retired into Allen, NE in 1991. Ruth was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and taught Sunday School for many years. She was a longtime member of the Waterbury Homemakers Club. Francis passed away on November 19, 2004. Ruth moved to Hillcrest Assisted Living in Laurel, NE and resided there for five years. The past six months she was a resident of Hillcrest Care Center in Laurel.

Ruth is survived by her son Douglas (Pamela) of Omaha, NE, daughter Trudy (Charles) Peters, of Dixon, NE, a daughter-in-law Rita (Gordon) Kleihauer of Akron, IA. She is also survived by eight grandchildren: Chad Mattes, Lynn Mattes, Amy (Jon) Heithold, Daniel (Melissa) Peters, Andy Mattes, Travis Mattes, Katie (Eric) Stewart and Angie (Michael) Urwiler, three step grandchildren: Carol, Michael and Laura Kleihauer, three great-grandchildren: Gage and Reece Heithold and Evey Peters. Two sisters Ann Bottger of Emerson, NE and Sue Newell of South Sioux City, NE, three sisters-in-law: Rachel Kubik of Emerson, NE, Janice Kubik of Emerson, NE and Joanne Kubik of Arizona.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Francis, son Linn, sister Lill Bonderson, nine brothers: Fritz, John, Mike, Ted, Ed, Bill, Les, Pat and Kenny Kubik.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons: Chad Mattes, Jon Heithold, Daniel Peters, Andy Mattes, Travis Mattes, Eric Stewart, Michael Urwiler and Gage Heithold.

Hollis Bruce Anderson, 72 of Oakland, NE


HOLLIS BRUCE ANDERSON, 72 years, of Oakland, Nebraska, passed away Monday, May 19, 2014, at Oakland Mercy Hospital after a brief illness.

Bruce was born on September 25, 1941, in Oakland to Hollis and Leila (Ekstrand) Anderson. He attended Oakland High School until taking over the family farm. He loved working and tinkering about the farm, however, his passion was gas engines. Each engine had a unique story to tell and he loved to share them.

In November 1966, Bruce married Roberta (Andersen) Anderson. To this union two daughters were born, Pamela Deon and Holly Marie. In September 1974, he married Ann Marie Johnson, together they had a daughter, Kathryn Marie. He enjoyed showing the girls the ways of the farm. Bruce was blessed with three grandchildren, Ryan Reppert, Jordyn Knobbe, Brody Huso. He showed them everything he knew about life and told his stories to make them smile.

Bruce drove school bus for Oakland/Craig Public Schools for several years until going to work at Superior Hybrids in North Bend until retiring, and yet he continued to help with the harvest season. Bruce loved life and would help anyone out at any time and expect nothing in return. He will be a man who is truly missed by everyone who knew him.

Bruce was a member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Oakland and various clubs such as: Dodge County Camper Club, Starkey Lodge in Oakland, NE, Coyote Club in West Point, NE, Pork Producers Board of Directors, and MRVC Club.

He was preceded in death by his parents; fathers- and mothers-in-law; son-in-law, Elden Huso; several aunts and uncles.

Bruce is survived by wife,  Ann Anderson of Oakland; daughters, Deon Knobbe  and Holly (Tim) Reppert all of West Point, NE, Katie Anderson of Kearney, NE; three grandchildren, Ryan Reppert and Jordyn Knobbe both of West Point, Brody Huso of Kearney; aunt, Dolores Anderson of Oakland; sister-in-law, Karlene Currier of Millard, NE, and many cousins.

FUNERAL SERVICE: Friday, May 23, 2014, 10:30 a.m. at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Oakland.
