Lyle William “Smiley” Neiburg, 76 of Oakland, NE


Lyle William “Smiley” Neiburg, the youngest of four children, was born July 5, 1937, in Oakland, Nebraska, to George Ben and Lillian Linnea (Larson) Neiburg. He passed away Thursday, May 1, 2014 at the Logan Valley Manor in Lyons, Nebraska at the age of 76 years.

Smiley was a life-long Oaklander. He painted and delivered groceries and the newspaper to many people in the area. He spent many years hauling garbage for residents.

He loved to fish with his fishing buddy, Bob Corwine, and enjoyed his coffee time with everyone.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Charles and Gerald; uncles and aunts.

Survivors include his brother, Allen of Oakland; nieces and nephews; special friend, Jami (Garold) Method of Craig, NE.

FUNERAL SERVICE: Tuesday, May 6, 2014, 10:30 am at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Oakland.

Dorla Ann Swanson, 84, of Walthill, NE, passed away Monday, April 28, 2014 at Arbor Manor in Fremont, NE. Funeral services will be Friday, May 2, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Walthill, NE; Pastor Brion Tolzman will be officiating. The visitation will be Thursday, May 1, 2014 from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Walthill, NE. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Walthill, NE. Memorials may be directed to the family. Munderloh-Smith Funeral Home of Pender, NE is in charge of arrangements. 

Dorla was born December 10, 1929 to William and Evelyn (Wilder) Warnock in Walthill, NE. She graduated from Walthill High School. On March 3, 1950, she married Ray Swanson, to this union five children were born. 

Dorla is survived by her daughters; Karen (Philip) Hetrick of Walthill, NE, Kristine (Chris) Hittle of Fremont, NE, Kamilla (James) Pierce of Walthill, NE, son; Jarrod Swanson of Wayne, NE, sisters; Marcella (Fred) Hendricks of Omaha, NE, Mary Friedrich of Plainview, NE, Marilyn Hietala of White Plains, NY, eleven grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, and two great- great grandchildren. 

Dorla is preceded in death by her husband, parents, son; Stephen Swanson, sisters; Helen Luschen and Patricia Anderson, brothers, William Warnock, Jr., and Robert Warnock.

WILLETA O. PETERSON, 91, of Fremont, Nebraska, passed away Sunday, April 27, 2014, in Fremont.

Willeta was born July 25, 1922, in West Point, Nebraska, to Wilhelm E. and Olivia (Ludwig) Kuester. She was baptized into the Christian faith on August 27, 1922, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, rural Beemer by Rev. F. W. Daberkow and was confirmed at St. John’s on April 14, 1935, by Rev. E. L. Borgmeyer. Willeta attended school at District No. 48.

On February 1, 1942, Willeta and Myron E. Peterson were united in marriage at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in West Point by Rev. Ared Oelschlaeger. They farmed in the West Point, Beemer and Lyons areas before moving to Fremont in 1971. Myron passed away August 20, 1999.

Willeta was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Oakland.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Myron; sister, Leota Mahnke.

Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Darwin and Linda Peterson of West Point, Dean and Cathy Peterson of Papillion, NE; daughters and sons-in-law, Parnell and Dr. Michael Thoene of El Cajon, CA, Nerita and Ron Getzschman of Fremont; ten grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren and very special friend, Colleen Sanny.

MEMORIAL SERVICE: Friday, May 2, 2014, 2:00 p.m. at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Oakland.

Ronald Lee “Ronnie” Madsen, 56 Of Tekamah, formerly of Red Oak, IA


RONALD LEE “RONNIE” MADSEN, 56 years, passed away Saturday, April 26, 2014, at the Golden Living Center in Tekamah, Nebraska, following a lengthy illness.

Ronnie was born July 3, 1957, in Storm Lake, Iowa, the second of five children of Franklin and Betty (Kaufman) Madsen.

Ron lived his entire childhood in Iowa and attended school at West Harrison and West Monona. As a young man he was employed as a mechanic by Heisterkamp Equipment Company in Onawa, Iowa. He later moved to Omaha, Nebraska, where he learned the trade of welding and was employed by American Hydraulics. In 2012, Ron moved to Red Oak, Iowa, where he lived and worked until his health failed at which time he became a resident of Tekamah Golden Living Center.

Ron enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and hunting mushrooms. The only thing he enjoyed more that hunting mushrooms was eating them.

Ron was a baptized and confirmed member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Lyons.

He was preceded in death by his parents and younger sister, Mary Ann Madsen.

He is survived by two children, daughter, Lori  and son, Ronald of Omaha; six grandchildren; two brothers, Gene Madsen of Lyons, Bobby Madsen of Promise City, Iowa; sister and brother-in-law, Marie and Calvin Swanson of Lyons; seven nephews, two nieces, aunts, uncles and cousins.

MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL: Tuesday, April 29, 2014, 10:00 a.m., St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Lyons.

VISITATION: Tuesday one hour prior to the service at the church.

BURIAL: Tuesday, 12:30 p.m. Ingemann Cemetery, Moorhead, Iowa
