LEONARD VIRGIL PATTERSON was born August 26, 1943 in Craig, Nebraska, to Virgil and Ruth (Monson) Patterson. He passed away Tuesday, February 18, 2014 at Arbor Manor in Fremont, Nebraska, at the age of 70 years. Leonard chose to donate his body for medical research.

Leonard was baptized and confirmed in the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Tekamah, Nebraska. He graduated from Tekamah High School in 1961. Leonard worked several jobs around the Craig area before enlisting in the U. S. Army on April 30, 1964. He saw active duty in Vietnam and was honorably discharged April 28, 1967. Leonard was very proud of the years he served his country. He was a member of the Craig American Legion Post No. 127.

Leonard married Phyllis Bartling and to this union two sons, Brian and James were born.

Leonard spent most of his adult life driving his truck across the United States from coast to coast and had many tales to tell about his travels.

On April 4, 1992, Leonard married Teri Krueger. They made their home in the Craig area.

Leonard enjoyed fishing, gardening and visiting with family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, mother-and father-in-law, and brother, Carroll Pearson.

Survivors include his wife, Teri; sons, Brian Patterson of Fremont, NE, James Patterson of Sioux Falls, SD; stepson, Jack Martin of Harlan, IA; sister, LaVonne (Pearson) Shodeen and her husband, Ken, of Colorado Springs, CO; sister-in-law, Mary Alice Pearson of Oakland, NE; five grandchildren, Kali, Mia, Mason, Alicia and Cassie; two great grandchildren, Berlin and Easton; nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.

MEMORIAL SERVICE: Friday, March 7, 2014, 10:30 a.m. at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Oakland.

MILITARY HONORS:   American Legion Post No. 127 and No.  46, Ryan VFW Post No. 5543,

Judith Vraspir, 54, of Emerson, Nebraska passed away Saturday, March 1, 2014 at her home in Emerson, Nebraska surrounded by her family. Memorial services will be Wednesday, March 5, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Emerson, NE; Father Gerald Leise will be officiating. The visitation will be held Tuesday, March 4, 2014 from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. with a prayer service starting at 7:00 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Emerson, NE. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Emerson, NE. Memorials may be directed to the family. Arrangements are under the direction of Munderloh-Smith Funeral Home of Emerson, NE.

Judi was born in Sioux City, Iowa on April 11, 1959, the daughter of Dennis and Marjorie (Nichols) Hassler. On October 15, 1976, Judi was united in marriage to Gene Vraspir at Elk Point, SD. To this union five children were born: Gina, Edwin, Sara, Jonathan and Rebecca.

In addition to raising her five children, Judi was a caring, thoughtful, and dedicated wife, grandmother, daughter, sister and friend. Her warm heart, sense of humor, and silly phrases brought smiles to our faces and laughter to our hearts. Judi held many jobs in her lifetime, but the ones she loved the most centered around caregiving. She had an incredible eye for decorating and loved making her house a home for every season. Judi was selfless and dedicated her life to raising her children and loving her husband. Her life was enriched with her two grandsons, Gavin and Reggie. Judi passed away in her home, with her husband and five children present.

Judi is survived by her husband Gene of Emerson, NE, children Gina (Garner) Sukup of Seward, NE, Edwin Vraspir (Lindsay Martin) of Fort Collins, CO, Jonathan (Cathryn) Vraspir of Nassau, Bahamas, Sara Vraspir (Travis Koopman) of Emerson, NE and Rebecca Vraspir (Daniel Langley) of Douglas, WY, and two grandchildren Gavin and Reggie Sukup; Sisters: Rita (Bob) Christian of Sioux City, IA, Cynthia Rohde of Emerson, NE, Angie (Jim) Gabel of South Sioux City, NE, Ginger (Rod) of Wakefield, NE, Christina (Marty) Habrock of Lincoln, NE and Carla (Mike) Clay of Wakefield, NE; Brothers: Pat Hassler of Hubbard, NE, Mick (Connie) Hassler of Emerson, NE, Rod (Christy) Hassler of Marshalltown, IA, Dennis Jr. (Donna) Hassler of Hubbard, NE and Ted (Nancy) Hassler of Big Lake, MN. She is also survived by her father-in-law Glen Doupnik of Pender, NE and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Dennis and Marjorie Hassler, sisters Teresa and Seina Hassler, a brother-in-law John Rohde, father-in-law Edwin Vraspir and mother-in-law Leona Doupnik.

Thomas Peter Larson, of Valentine, Nebraska, formerly of Bancroft, NE passed away Saturday, March 1, 2014 at Cherry County Hospital in Valentine, NE.

Funeral services for Tom will be held Wednesday, March 5, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at the Presbyterian Church in Valentine, NE. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 4, 2014 at Sandoz Chapel of the Pines in Valentine, NE.

Graveside services with Military Honors for Tom will be held Thursday, March 6, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at the Bancroft Cemetery in Bancroft, NE, with Pastor Phillip Hale officiating. A local visitation will be held Wednesday, March 5, 2014 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Munderloh – Smith Funeral Home in Bancroft, NE.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children Hospital.

Arrangements are under the direction of Sandoz Chapel of the Pines in Valentine, NE and Munderloh – Smith Funeral Home in Bancroft, NE

Thomas Peter Larsen was born in Lyons, Nebraska on April 23, 1945 to Frank and Marie (Tromborg) Larsen. He was baptized and confirmed in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Bancroft. He graduated from Bancroft High School and attended Wayne State College. Tom drove truck for the Hay Mill near Bancroft and also moved cattle and grain for his brothers. He served in the Marine Corp during the Vietnam War.

He married Sally A. Johnson on July 18, 1970 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. They were blessed with two children; Tammy and Nicholas. They lived in Bancroft until 1979. Tom and Sally and their family then moved to Valentine, NE where Tom continued to work for AT&T. Tom was a member of the Bancroft Fire Department and later a member of the Valentine Fire Department. He was a member of the American Legion and VFW Post #90 in Valentine, NE. After retiring from AT&T, Tom worked at the Deer Park Country Club in Valentine, NE.

Tom enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, canoeing, golfing, boating, bowling and anything the fire department was involved with. He coached girl’s softball, helped with Girl Scout trips and also handled several fund raising events for St Jude Children’s Hospital.

Tom is survived by wife Sally of Valentine, NE; children Tammy Toro and husband Eric of Omaha, NE, Nicholas of Valentine, NE; Grandchild Josie Toro; brother, Robert Larsen of Blair, NE; sister, Joan Heermann of Atkinson, NE as well as many nieces and nephews.

Tom is preceded in death by his parents Frank and Marie Larsen; brothers, Larry and Donald, and nephew Jeffrey Larsen.

Wednesday, February 12, 2014, in Lahaina, Maui, Hawaii, at the age of 63 years.

Lloyd grew up in rural Douglas   County, Nebraska, attended Valley High School until his family moved to rural Tekamah in 1967. He graduated from Tekamah High School in 1968 and University of Nebraska School of Technical Agriculture in Curtis in 1970.

Lloyd then entered the Marine Corps and served in Vietnam, being honorably discharged in December 1971.

He returned home and began farming in the Tekamah area. On September 15, 1979, Lloyd married Mary Hawe in Heartwell, Nebraska. To this union three children were born, Laura, Charles, and Dan.  They made their home for the last 34 1/2 years in rural Tekamah.

Lloyd loved farming and working with his cattle. He had a great interest in conservation and improving farm ground for future generations wherever he was, including spending part of his last day learning about raising pineapple. His children and grandchildren were the light of his life.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Rose Kahlandt and step-mother, Helen Kahlandt.

He is survived by his wife, Mary of Tekamah, daughter, Laura McElmuray and husband, Graig, of Tekamah, Charles Kahlandt and special friend, Ashley Delimont, of Omaha, NE, Dan Kahlandt and special friend, MacKenzie Johnson, of Tekamah; three grandchildren, Grant, Elizabeth, and Kahla McElmuray; brothers, George (Sandra) Kahlandt of Decatur, NE,  Larry (Virginia) Kahlandt of Tekamah; sisters, Kathy (Steve) Chatt of Tekamah, Cindy (Stan) Sudduth of Centennial, CO, Sue (Jamie) Swanson of Omaha, NE, many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

MARIE ELOISE (CLINE) DAME was born January 17, 1921, at Bertha, Nebraska, to Claude and Grace (Ruhe) Cline. She passed away Monday, February 17, 2014, at her home in Oakland.

Marie grew up in Bertha and attended grade school at District 36. She moved to Oakland with her family, where she went to high school graduating in 1939. Marie worked as a waitress in local cafes, and even well into her years, would remember her favorite customers and what their usual orders would be.

On September 24, 1942, Marie married Raymond Dame in Fremont, Nebraska. For the first eight years of their marriage, while Ray was in the Army, they lived in Texas, Oklahoma and Seattle, Washington. Though she enjoyed the travel and making new friends, she always said she loved living in Oakland.

Marie was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Oakland, where she was baptized and confirmed.

Marie enjoyed baking and always had a special treat for any visitors who stopped by. For many years she entered her baked goods, canned goods and produce at the Burt County Fair, where she won many awards. Marie was an avid reader, loved doing crossword puzzles, feeding the birds and anticipating the arrival of the wrens in the spring. She also enjoyed cheering on her favorite NASCAR driver, Mark Martin.

Marie delighted in spending time with her family, especially at holidays.  Thanksgiving was her favorite holiday and she looked forward to everyone sharing in the feast she had prepared. Her family will always treasure the memories of the stories she shared of her long life.

She was preceded in death by her parents; stepfather, Arthur “Skelly” Johnson; husband, Raymond; brother, Dale Cline.

Survivors include her daughters, Mona (Dan) Tanksley of Oakland, Mary Bartels of Akron, IA; son, Tim Dame of Oakland; five grandchildren, ReGina (Jan) Culbertson, Danny (Jeanie) Tanksley, Annie (Eric) Solberg, Sarah (Ryan) Gorsett and Jessica Bartels; six great grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

ANNA MARIE (CONKLIN) MUHS, 44 years, of Craig, Nebraska, passed away Tuesday, February 11, 2014.

She was the daughter of Margaret and the late Frank Conklin. In June of 2001 Anna married Roger Muhs.

Preceding her in death were her father and grandparents.

Survivors include her husband, Roger; mother, Margaret, brother, Robert; sister, Tania (Richard) Ullarich; step-sister, Debbie Mitchell; three nieces and a nephew.
