Leona Marie Doupnik, 87, of Pender, passed away Monday, February 3, 2014 at Heritage of Emerson in Emerson, Nebraska. Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, February 7, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Emerson, NE; Father Gerald Leise will be officiating. Visitation will be Thursday, February 6, 2014 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Emerson, NE, from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. Family will be present from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. with a prayer service beginning at 7:00 p.m. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Emerson, NE. Memorials may be directed to the family for future designation. Munderloh-Smith Funeral Home of Emerson is in charge of arrangements.

Leona was born June 18, 1926 to Louis Sr. and Marie (Frohner) Kratky in Prague, NE. The family moved to Thurston in 1936 where she graduated from Thurston High School in 1943. On February 18, 1952, she married Edwin Vraspir at St. John’s Catholic Church in Pender, NE. To this union, seven children were born; Donald, Karen, Glen, twins Gary and Gene, and twins Jim and Joe. Edwin passed away in October of 1972. Leona married Glen Doupnik on December 16, 1982 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Emerson, NE.

Leona was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church and Alter Society. She was the co-owner of Thrifty Market in Emerson from 1954 until 1983. She was a wonderful baker and enjoyed sewing and dancing. She especially loved spending time with her family and grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband; Glen Doupnik of Pender, NE, sons; Glen and Connie Vraspir of Emerson, NE, Gene and Judi Vraspir of Emerson, NE, Gary and Jeanne Vraspir of Belgrade, MT, Jim Vraspir of Belgrade, MT, Joe and Jane Vraspir of Eagle, NE, one daughter; Karen and Robert Oetken, of Lincoln, NE, sisters-in-law; Burla Dean Renz of Pender, NE, Jeannie Kratky of Pender, NE, and Georgian Vraspir of Emerson, NE, 11 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Leona is preceded in death by her parents, husband; Edwin Vraspir, infant son; Donald, and brothers; Leroy Kratky, Louis Kratky, Jr., Eugene Kratky.

DORIS LELA REINERT was born June 27, 1921, seven miles northwest of Tekamah, Nebraska, to Earl and Grace (Johnson) Gill. She passed away Saturday, February 1, 2014, at the Golden Living Center in Tekamah, at the age of 92 years.

Doris was a life-long resident of the Tekamah area. She graduated from Tekamah High School in 1939. Doris became a member of the Silver Creek Baptist Church in 1932 and later transferred her membership to First Baptist Church in Tekamah.

On September 4, 1941, Doris married Byron G. Reinert at the Gill homestead in the Silver Creek Township. To this union four children were born, Larry, Dan, Linda and Sandra.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Byron; son, Larry; grandson, Monte; great grandson, Justin; brother, Leland Gill; niece, Marilyn Hahn; brothers- and sisters-in-law, Melvin and Vi Reinert, Eldred and Blanch Reinert, Jeanette and David Cantley, Eva and Carl Swanson, Veda and Bob Loftis, Margaret and Clayton Anthony.

Survivors include her son, Dan of Fremont, NE; daughters, Linda Johnson of Correctionville, IA, Sandra Metz of Tekamah; fourteen grandchildren; sister, Betty (Gill) Deaver of Dallas Center, IA.

FUNERAL SERVICE: Tuesday, February 4, 2014, 10:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Tekamah.

ELEANOR LOUISE PENKE, 88 years of Oakland, Nebraska, formerly of rural Craig, Nebraska.

Eleanor Louise (Rudolph) Penke was born October 21, 1925, at Papillion, Nebraska, to Henry and Clara (Cockerill) Rudolph. She passed away Saturday, February 1, 2014, at Oakland Mercy Hospital in Oakland.

Eleanor was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Trinity Lutheran Church in Papillion. She attended rural Chase School and graduated from Papillion High School. Following her graduation, she started work setting type for the Papillion Times, where she worked for five years. She worked at the Sarpy County Courthouse in the Assessors and Treasurer’s office for two years.

On January 20, 1951, Eleanor was united in marriage at Trinity Lutheran to Dale Penke of Gretna, Nebraska. To this union two children were born. They farmed in Sarpy and Douglas Counties, moving to Burt County on a farm near Bertha in February 1969.

Eleanor was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Tekamah, Pleasant Homemakers Club and American Legion Auxiliary #127 in Craig.

She loved to embroidery, making quilts for each of her family members.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dale on February 14, 1999; two brothers, Harold and Raymond Rudolph; great granddaughter, Allison Grace Penke.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Sylvia and Jim Thomas of Decatur, NE; son and daughter-in-law, Stan and Sue Penke of Craig; four grandchildren, Kelly (Robert) Abrahams of Hooper, NE, Jason (Kylie) Penke of Craig, Melissa (Martin) Anderson of Eugene, OR, Cassie (Nick) Easterly of Sidney, NE;  five great grandchildren, Ashley Abrahams, Alex Abrahams, Austin Abrahams, Tate Penke, Tye Penke;  sisters, Eileen Simonsen of Omaha, NE; three brothers,  Harry Rudolph of Papillion, John Rudolph of Dunbar, NE, Otto Rudolph of Wichita, KS; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Susan L. (Preston) Reis, 65, of Rosalie, NE died on Friday January 31, 2014 at Creighton Medical Center in Omaha, NE. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 4, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Rosalie, NE; Pastor Charity Potter will be officiating. The visitation with family present will be held on Monday from 5:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Munderloh – Smith Funeral Home in Pender, NE. Burial will be in the Lyons Cemetery in Lyons, NE. Memorials are suggested to the Nebraska Dachshund Rescue and the American Heart Association. Arrangements by Munderloh – Smith Funeral Home of Pender.

Susan was born on July 21, 1948 in Fremont, NE, the daughter of Duane and Ann (McAvoy) Preston. She attended Rosalie High School, graduating in 1966. She was united in marriage to Donald C. Reis on January 9, 1971 at the United Methodist Church in Rosalie, NE. To this union three children were born: Aaron, Ryan and Megan. She was a longtime member of the Methodist Church and enjoyed the trips to Minnesota with her family. She was a loving and caring mother and grandmother who enjoyed cooking for her family. She will be missed by her dachshund Gus.

Susan is survived by her husband Donald of Rosalie, NE, son Aaron (Tammy) Reis of Homer, NE, Ryan (Renae) Reis of Beatrice, NE and a daughter Megan (Cory) Meyer of Bancroft, NE., her grandchildren Kyla and Emily Reis, Max and Owen Reis and Kara and Mason Meyer. She is also survived by a sister Michalla (Gary) Burmester of Fremont, NE and a brother Alan (Ruth) Preston of Rosalie, NE, and her nieces and nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents Duane and Ann Preston.
