PAUL M. ANDERSON was born September 1, 1957, in Omaha, Nebraska, to Dallas and Phyllis (Nelson) Anderson. He passed away at his home in Lyons due to failing health at the age of 56 years.

Paul was baptized on March 23, 1958, at the Divide Center Presbyterian Church, rural Lyons. He went to school at Divide Center and high school in Lyons, graduated from Lyons High School in 1976. He attended Witt College to become a truck driver which he enjoyed for a few years. He also enjoyed repairing and fixing up houses.

Paul lived in Topeka, Kansas, for four years. His health prevented him from working and he moved to Lyons to be closer to his family.

Paul was friendly to all and never knew a stranger. He loved Christmas at home with brothers and sisters, family reunions in the park, and stopping in for coffee and a short visit with his family. He will be missed by all.

He was preceded in death by his father, Dallas.

Survivors include his mother, Phyllis Anderson of rural Lyons; brothers, Bill (Rhonda) Anderson of Harlan, IA, Max Anderson of Rosalie, NE; sisters, Judy (Dennis) Fleischman of Tekamah, Janet (Royce) Jeffries of Waverly, NE; many nieces and nephews.

MEMORIAL SERVICE: Saturday, February 8, 2014, 10:30 a.m. at Pelan Funeral Home in Lyons.

Arvid “Sonny” Eugene Samuelson, Jr., 83, of Wakefield, Nebraska died on Wednesday, January 29, 2014 at the Wakefield Health Care Center in Wakefield, Nebraska. Funeral services for Sonny will be held on Saturday, February 1, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Wakefield; Pastor William Bertrand will be officiating. The visitation with the family present will be held on Friday, January 31, 2014 from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Bressler – Munderloh – Smith Funeral Home in Wakefield. Burial with military honors will follow a lunch at St. John’s Lutheran Church at the Bancroft Cemetery in Bancroft, Nebraska. Memorials may be directed to the family for future designation.

Sonny was born on February 8, 1930 to Arvid and Bertha (Pates) Samuelson on a farm west of Lyons, NE. He was baptized on April 20, 1930 ad confirmed at Grace Lutheran Church in West Point, NE. He attended rural school and graduated from Lyons High School in 1947. He worked at several different jobs, plus helped his father with the farming. On January 4, 1952, Sonny married Imogene Burhoop at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Bancroft, NE.

He was drafted into the United States Army on January 9, 1952. Sonny was sent to Fort Leonard Wood, MO before being transferred to Camp Roberts, CA, where Imogene joined him. He was transferred to Camp Cook, CA, and at the end of October 1952 he got his orders to Mannheim, Germany. He returned to the United States in November of 1953 and after serving for two years was released in January 1954. He then spent six years in the Army Reserves. He was a member of the Bancroft American Legion until moving to Wakefield and joining the Wakefield American Legion.

Sonny returned to farming and semi-retired in 1995, moving into Wakefield, but remained helping on the farm. He was one of the founding members of the Bancroft Saddle Club.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Imogene of Wakefield, NE, two sons Douglas Samuelson of Lincoln, NE and Galen (Amy) Samuelson of Wakefield, NE, five grandchildren: Eric (Brandy) Samuelson, Casey (Jenny) Samuelson, Brianna, Caleb and Dawson Samuelson, four great grandchildren: Taylor, Ethan, Caden and Elynn. He is also survived by a sister Ina Welding of West Point, NE, his twin brother Arnold (Mila Jean) Samuelson of Mesa, AZ, a sister-in-law Marilyn Burhoop and brother-in-law David (Judy) Burhoop of Bancroft, NE, and many nieces and nephews.

Sonny was preceded in death by his parents, a son Brian Samuelson, sisters Ila Samuelson and Lucille Poledna and brothers-in-law Harold “Deke” Welding, Dennis Poledna and Dale Burhoop.

Saturday, January 25, 2014, at the Oakland Mercy Hospital, in Oakland, Nebraska, at the age of 88 years.

Harold graduated from Walthill High School in 1943.

In 1945, Harold enlisted in the Army and was discharged November 1, 1946.

He was united in marriage to LaVerne Schademan on December 3, 1946.

Harold farmed a number of years before moving to town and worked several jobs including janitorial work at Walthill High School, retiring in 1986.

He loved doing crosswords, going to the movies and especially chocolate, having company and spending time with the family.

Harold was a member of the American Legion Post 89 for 45 years and served as their Chaplin.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Harold is survived by his wife, LaVerne of Oakland; daughters, Arla (Denny) Ogden of Oakland, and LaDonna (Dow) Bartling of Rapid City, SD; six grandchildren, Troy (Coleen) Denton, Holly Throener, Tracy (Paula) Denton, Sara (Chris) Woods, Gary (Gretchen) Ogden, and Justin Bartling Martinez; fourteen great-grandchildren; and one great great grand-daughter.

Funeral services for Wilma will be held on Monday, January 27, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Wakefield; Pastor Kelly Johnston will be officiating. MARIAN RUTH McCLUSKY was born December 18, 1946, as a twin, in Fremont, Nebraska, to John and Ruth (Hansen) Jensen.  She passed away Saturday, January 18, 2014 at her home in Tekamah, Nebraska at the age of 67 years.

hen young, growing up on the family farm, Marian enjoyed going to the creek where mystery and adventure was around every corner.  She attended grade school at Thone School District #21, in Washington County, and graduated from Herman High school in 1965.

Marian was first married to John Dewhurst II on October 23, 1965 at the Riverside Baptist Church, rural Tekamah.  They had one son, John III and later a daughter, Kay.  They lived in Blair, NE.

On August 26, 1978, Marian was united in marriage to Jim McClusky in Millard, NE.  They had one son, Joshua.
Marian retired after working for15 years from Western Electric.

She was a natural at interior design.  She enjoyed crocheting at an early age, worked with embroidery, sewing and designing gifts.  She also enjoyed a lifetime of singing  with her twin Marie.

She loved having family dinners and spending time with her family and friends.  Marian never knew a stranger.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include her husband, Jim of Kansas City, MO; sons, John Dewhurst III of Tekamah, Joshua McClusky of Kansas City, daughters, Kay (John) Shreve of Prairie Grove, AR; sisters; Betty (Fred) Heinssen of Blair, twin Marie Rager of Tekamah, Valerie (Terry) Peterson of Herman, NE; brother, John Henry (Diane) Jensen of Omaha, NE, 5 grandchildren, Colton, Dalton, Kierstin, Stormy Jo, Franklin; 3 great grandchild, Hayden, Clara and Aaliyah.

FUNERAL SERVICE: Friday, January 24, 2014, 10:00 am from the Herman Legion Hall, in Herman, NE.

VISITATION: Thursday, January 23, 5 – 8 pm with family receiving friends at the Pelan Funeral Home in Tekamah. Visitation will also be held at the Herman Legion Hall one hour prior to services.
