Donald A. King, 83 of Oakland, Nebraska passed away Friday, November 20, 2015 at Crowell Nursing Home in Blair, Nebraska.

Donald was born April 14, 1932 in Tekamah, Nebraska to Floyd A. and Hazel Marie (Warren) King. Don grew up in the Craig and Tekamah area, helping with the farm. He entered the Army in 1952, and served until 1954 as an infantry carpenter. He married Stella in Omaha.

He worked as a service technician at a scrap hauling business for 29 years. He was a car detailer at H.P. Smith Ford until he had to retire due to health. He was married to Roxann Travis in May of 1979, and lived in Omaha, Nebraska; they divorced in 1999. Don enjoyed Ford pickups, fishing, junking and spending time with family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; son, Art Case; wife, Jeanette; granddaughter, Elizabeth; brothers, Darrell King, Richard King, Keith King; sisters, Jeri King, June Tranmer.

He is survived by his daughter, April (David) Kirby of Missouri Valley, IA; grandchildren, Mike (Amanda) Snyder, David (Jody) Dome, John Case, Arthur (Jackie) Case, Donna Rife, Mary (Ken) Barrett, Nicole Smith, David J. Kirby, LeeAnn Kirby, Morgan Kirby, McKenzie Kirby; numerous great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Kenneth W. Hartwig, 82, of Pender NE


Kenneth W. Hartwig, 82 of Pender, Nebraska fought a courageous battle against cancer and lost the fight on Thursday, November 19, 2015 at UnityPoint Health – St. Luke’s Hospital in Sioux City, IA. Memorial services for Ken will be held on Monday, November 23, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Pender; Pastor Miles Ruch will be officiating. The visitation will begin one hour prior to the service on Monday. Burial will be at a later date at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church Cemetery near Pender. Memorials are suggested to the family for future designation. Munderloh – Smith Funeral Home of Pender is in charge of the arrangements.

Ken was born on July 12, 1933 at the Dorothy Picotte Memorial Hospital in Walthill, NE, the son of William and Alice (Einemann) Hartwig. In 1950 he graduated from Walthill High School. Shortly after graduation he joined the United States Army and served in Korea. On October 21, 1956, he was united in marriage to Vivian Pieper. To this union four children were born: Katherine, Sheryl, Christine and William. In the early 1970s, Ken became owner operator of the garbage business in Pender. He also drove the school bus, worked as a janitor at the Pender High School and was an associate realtor with NE Nebraska Realty. The family moved into their current residence in 1978.

Ken was a collector of many things. He enjoyed fishing, morel mushroom hunting, attending auctions and old cars. He was a member of the Pender V.F.W, the American Legion, serving as Commander, President of the Nebraska Token Club, member of the Classic Car Club of Onawa and a lifelong member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church. What he enjoyed most was spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years Vivian of Pender, daughters: Katherine (Earl) Snyder of Sioux City, IA, Sheryl (Donovan) Ehrman of Greeley, CO, Christine Glissman of Pender and a son William (Karen) Hartwig of Fremont, NE. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Lisa (James) Glissman-Mayner, Emily Glissman, Quinn Ehrman, Earl “Alex” Snyder, Kathryn Ehrman, Hannah (Seth) DeMoss, Noel Johnson, Autumn Johnson, and three great grandchildren: Derek, Pheobe and Mia Glissman-Mayner, sister Karolyn Sartin of Ringgold, GA; brother Willis (Bettty) Hartwig of Longmont, CO, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and former son-in-law Brad Glissman.

Ken was preceded in death by his parents and his grandson Brian Weston Glissman.

Margaret R. Heineman, 92, of Pender, Nebraska died on Wednesday, November 18, 2015 at the Pender Community Hospital in Pender.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 4, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Pender; Pastor Miles Ruch will be officiating. The visitation will be held on Thursday,December 3, 2015 from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the Munderloh – Smith Funeral Home in Pender, with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Burial will be in the Rosehill Cemetery of Pender.

Patricia Lou (Kai) Fendrick, 74, of Pender, Nebraska passed away Tuesday, November 17, 2015 at Legacy Garden Rehabilitation and Living Center in Pender. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, November 21, 2015 at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Pender; with Pastor Miles Ruch officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Friday, November 20, 2015 at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church with a prayer service starting at 7:00 p.m. Burial will be in Rosehill Cemetery in Pender. Memorials are suggested to the family for future designation. Arrangements are under the direction of Munderloh – Smith Funeral Home.

Pat was born February 10, 1941 to Art and Florence (Cook) Kai at Wayne Jameson Hospital in Wayne, Nebraska. On January 3, 1960, she married Robert James Fendrick in Pender, NE. To this union three children were born: Pamela, Rhonda and Kevin. Pat worked in several different places in Pender: Pool Manager, Ray’s Tap and Grill, Pender High School and at the Pender Care Center. Bob died on August 27, 2015. She was a longtime member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Pender. Pat enjoyed cross stitching, embroidery and watching her grandchildren compete in sporting events. Most of all she enjoyed being a babysitter for her grandchildren.

Patricia is survived by her daughters, Pamela (Mark) Buchholz of Omaha, NE, Rhonda (Rodney) Heise of Pender, NE; son, Kevin (Michelle) Fendrick of Pender; sisters, Marilyn Leonard, Bonnie (Raymond) Prokop, Ardyce Surber and Joyce Giese; sisters-in-law, Betty Meister, Marlene Abendroth; brothers-in-law, Harold (Darlene) Fendrick, and Tony (Pamela) Fendrick, Dale Vavra; eight grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Robert J. Fendrick; parents; brothers-in-law, Robert Leonard, Norman Surber and Leroy Giese, Frank Fendrick; parents-in-law, Anton and Wavia Fendrick; sister-in-law, Twila Vavra.

Mable was born September 10, 1919 to Everett and Minnie (Smith) Harbison in Circle, MT. She grew up in rural Bloomfield, NE and graduated from Bloomfield High School. Mable attended Wayne State College and received a teaching degree. She taught in Knox and Cedar counties in rural schools. Mable married Albert Johnson on September 24, 1949 at the Methodist Church in Wasau, NE and the couple had three children. She was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church. Mable loved reading, gardening, and caring for her family.

She is survived by Arnold Johnson of Laurel, NE, LaVerle (Nancy) Johnson of Laurel, NE, and Doug Johnson; 7 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

Mable is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Albert, and sister-in-law, Esther Johnson.
