Glenn Holm Meyer, 87, of Bancroft, passed away Monday, September 14, 2015 at Legacy Garden Rehabilitation and Living Center in Pender. Funeral services will be held Friday, September 18, at 10:00 a.m. at Munderloh – Smith Funeral Home in Pender; with Ben Lawrence officiating. Visitation will be Thursday, September 17, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Munderloh – Smith Funeral Home in Pender. Burial with military honors will be in the Bancroft City Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the family for future designation.

Rachel Kubik, 88, of Emerson NE


Rachel Mayme Kubik, 88, of Emerson, NE passed away on Monday, September 14, 2015 at the Heritage of Emerson Nursing Home in Emerson, NE. Funeral services for Rachel will be held on Friday, September 18, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Emerson with Pastors Gretchen Ritola and Sara Ruch officiating. The visitation will be held on Thursday from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery of Emerson. Memorials may be directed to the family for future designation. Munderloh – Smith Funeral Home of Emerson is in charge of the arrangements.

Rachel was born on October 1, 1926 to James Richard and Annie (Boeshart) Kingston in their home northeast of Dixon, NE. She was baptized at the Rosehill Methodist Church in Dixon. Rachel attended Happy Corner, Clark and Myrtle Creek Country Schools and graduated from Allen High School in 1943. After school she attended normal teaching school and taught at Turtle Hill Country School for a year and at Clark Center Country School for two years. On January 15, 1947, she married Theodore “Ted” Kubik at her parents’ home in Allen.

The couple farmed in the Allen and Emerson areas until 1962, when they moved to the Kubik family farm south of Walthill, NE. In January of 1973, they moved back to Emerson, where they farmed and she worked for the Farmers Co-Op and Emerson Housing Authority until her retirement. Ted passed away on November 28, 1990.

Rachel was an active member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, was a member of St. Luke’s Miriam Bible Study Group and St. Luke’s Women’s group. She was also an active member of the American Legion Auxiliary serving for 57 years.

Rachel is survived by her sons: James (Kris) Kubik of Pawnee City, NE and Scott (Wendy) Kubik of Emerson, NE. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Jeff Kubik, Laura Fuehrer, Ashley (Brett) Balliet and Joseph Kubik and her great grandchildren: Kyla Kubik, Breana Fuehrer, Valencia Fuehrer, Corbin Balliet and Abel Balliet and her sister Faith (Bernard) Keil of Allen, NE.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Ted.

Oma Breitbarth, 86, of West Point NE


Oma Breitbarth age 86 of West Point, Nebraska passed away on Sunday, September 13, 2015, at the St. Francis Memorial Hospital in West Point. Private memorial services will be held at the Minnick Funeral Home in West Point.

Oma Lee Breitbarth was born on April 22, 1929 at Scribner, NE to Walter and Leona (Henrichson) Miller. She attended Dodge Co. Rural School District #12 and graduated from Scribner High School. Oma helped her father on the family farm prior to her marriage.

On January 26, 1958, she was united in marriage to Arthur Breitbarth at the United Lutheran Church in Scribner, NE. The couple farmed ten miles west of Bancroft until moving to West Point in 1994. On the farm Oma was an active farm wife and raised her laying hens.

She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, rural Pender. Oma enjoyed crocheting, sewing, and baking pies especially.

Shirley L. Watson, 78, of Sioux City IA Formerly of Walthill NE


Shirley L. Watson, 78, of Sioux City, IA, formerly of Walthill, NE, died on Wednesday, September 9, 2015 at Hallmark Care Center in Sioux City, IA. Funeral services for Shirley will be held on Monday at 11:00 a.m. at the Community of Christ Church in Walthill, NE; Pastor Nola Briggs will be officiating. The visitation will be held on Sunday from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. at the church in Walthill. Munderloh – Smith Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Memorials are suggested to the family for future designation.

Shirley was born on December 19, 1936 in Hartington, NE, the daughter of Clarence and Wilhelmina (Weber) Beecher. She graduated from Wausa High School in Wausa, NE and attended teacher’s school in Sioux City, Ia. She taught in the Thurston, NE area for a brief time. On August 16, 1963, she was united in marriage to Alonzo Robert Watson. She worked at Campbell Manufacturing for a short time before staying at home to take care of their children. Alonzo died in 2000, she moved to Sioux City, IA in 2001 to be closer to her family. Shirley enjoyed reading, sewing, and camping, most of all she enjoyed the time she spent with her family, especially her grandchildren.

She is survived by her children: Robert Stromberg of Tacoma, WA, Richard Stromberg of Houston, TX, Randall (Norene) Stromberg of Lyons, NE, Rodney Watson of Rosalie, NE, Patti Stromberg of Norfolk, NE and Raelyn Watson of Sioux City, IA, a special “Son” LeRoy McRoberts; thirteen grandchildren and many great grandchildren. Shirley is also survived by a sister Patricia (Robert) Turner of Omaha, NE.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, a grandson Dre Lary, and a brother Lloyd Beecher.

Fred H. Fager, 90, of Craig NE


Fred H. Fager, of Craig, Nebraska, was born on October 10, 1924 in Wausa, Nebraska to Edd and Emma (Moller) Fager. He passed away September 9, 2015 at the Oakland Mercy Hospital in Oakland, Nebraska, at the age of 90 years.

Fred attended country school and graduated from Lyons High School in 1943.

After high school Fred served in the US Army with the 170th Military Police Company. During this time he was stationed in the Persian Gulf and Egypt.

Fred married Eunice Berg on Sept. 27, 1947 in Craig. They farmed and fed cattle in the Craig area for many years. To this union two children were born, Richard and Brenda.

In 1987 Fred was married to Connie Jacobson of Craig. They resided in Craig at the time of his death.

Fred was a farmer and cattle feeder for over 35 years. He loved the farm work; and helping in many projects in the community. He was active in many organizations over years; serving on the Burt Co. Feeders Assoc., Craig Coop Board, Craig Cemetery Board, Burt Co. Fair Board, Burt Co Extension Board, Craig American Legion, and Oakland VFW. Fred was also a member of the Craig Methodist Church and served in various positions with the church. Fred also served as Mayor of Craig for several years.

Fred loved his family dearly and always enjoyed having family around. Fred’s hobbies included attending auctions, antiquing, talking farming, country music, gardening, and playing bingo at the Senior Center.

He was preceded in death by his parents; half-brothers, Clinton, Clifford and Leo Fager; and step-sister Linnea Curtis.

Fred is survived by his wife Connie of Craig; son, Richard (Micki) of Sioux Falls, SD; daughter, Brenda (Greg) Tenopir of Wahoo, NE; step-children, Deborah (John) Spangler of Maple Grove, MN, Mark Jacobson of St. Cloud, MN, Douglas Jacobson of Craig, Pamela Jacobson of Coon Rapids, MN, Tamera Newman of Coon Rapids, MN, Thomas Jacobson of Osageo, MN; 24 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren.

Cheryl D. Porter age 61, of Scribner passed away Wednesday, September 09, 2015 at her home.

The memorial service will be 10am Saturday, September 12th at the Ludvigsen Mortuary Chapel in Fremont. There is no viewing.

Cheryl was born May 17, 1954 in Manhattan, Kansas to Phillip and Marjorie ‘Morris’ Eckhart. She was raised in Hooper, Nebraska where she attended school. Cheryl was married to Stan Hart with whom she had 2 children Dana and Shawn. She then married Ronald Porter in 1983 with whom she had 2 daughters Katy and Jessy. The family lived in several communities before settling in Scribner. Cheryl was a homemaker and midwife. She was diagnosed with cancer in July of 2014.

Harold LeRoy Keeler, 79, of Lincoln NE


Harold LeRoy Keeler was born to Jack Sisson and Minnie (Christensen) Keeler September 2, 1936 in Fremont, Nebraska. He passed away September 4, 2015 at Bryan LGH East in Lincoln, Nebraska at the age of 79 years.

Harold lived in Fremont most of his life. He was married and had three children; LeRoy, Bonnie and Terry. While in Fremont, he met Rosemarie “Sally”, and they were united in marriage there in 1969. He became a stepfather to Helen and Randy. Harold and Sally spent many more years in Fremont, relocating to Lincoln in 1986. Harold volunteered for the Good Neighbors Center for many years, and was very active in his community. Harold moved to the Logan Valley Manor in Lyons, Nebraska in July of 2014 due to his health. He was then moved to Arbor Manor in Fremont. He was able to spend the last week of his life in Milford, closer to the sparkle of his eye, Isaac.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Sally; brother, Polly; sister, Alice; son, Terry; nephew, Wesley.

He is survived by his daughter, Bonnie of Fremont; son, LeRoy of York, NE; stepdaughters, Helen (Rocky) of Lyons, Nancy of Omaha, NE; stepson, Randy of Craig, NE; brothers, Jim (Donna) of Fremont, Bob (Diana) of Uehling, NE; brother-in-law, Mark Hart of Oakland, NE; Grandsons, Nick (Jen) of Lincoln, Jason (Heather) of Omaha; granddaughters, Jennifer (Jared) of Oakland, Kari (David) of Golden, CO, Katelyn of Omaha, Riquita and Andrea both of Fremont; great grandchildren Isaac of Lincoln, Cali of Fremont, Trystin, Sophitia, Roarik and Rand all of Golden; many nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews; cousins.
