Elaine Marie Ida (Hitz) Holm, 93, of Wakefield, Nebraska passed away Wednesday, July 15, 2015 at the Wakefield Health Care Center in Wakefield. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 18, 2015 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Wakefield, with Pastor William Bertrand officiating. Visitation will be held 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Friday, July 17, 2015 at Bressler – Munderloh – Smith Funeral Home in Wakefield with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Burial will be in the Wakefield Cemetery in Wakefield. Memorials may be directed to St. John’s Lutheran Church in Wakefield. Arrangements are under the direction of Bressler – Munderloh – Smith Funeral Home in Wakefield.

Elaine was born on October 4, 1921 to Erie and Ella (Pittack) Hitz in Pierce, NE. She was baptized on October 16, 1921 and confirmed in her faith on Palm Sunday 1934 at St. John’ s Lutheran Church in Pierce, NE, by Pastor H. A. Hilpert. Elaine moved with her parents to Wakefield in November 1936 and graduated from Wakefield High School in 1939. On November 16, 1942 she was united in marriage to Harold Holm at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Wakefield by Pastor W. A. Gerdes.

Elaine was active in St. John’s Lutheran Church, helping with the Ladies Aid, Ruth’s Bible Study, Lutheran Women’s Missionary League and a Bible School Helper. She was also involved with Club 16, the V.F.W. Auxiliary, Rural Letter Carrier’s Auxiliary. In her spare time Elaine enjoyed quilting, crocheting, sewing and crafts. Elaine is survived by her daughter, Cheryl (Dennis) Evans of Bennington, NE; son, Charles (Cecil) Holm of Depoe Bay, OR; four grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.

Elaine is preceded in death by her parents, Erie and Ella Hitz; husband, Harold Holm and a brother, Alfred Hitz.

Wanda K. Dodge, 58 years, of Lyons, NE died Tuesday, July 14, 2015 at her sister’s home in Fremont, NE. Wanda was born November 19, 1956 in Fremont, NE to William and Marguerite “Margie” (Bales) Riggs. She grew up in Fremont and lived here until moving to Lyons, NE in 1997. Wanda married Tony Dodge on February 8, 1989 in Yankton, S.D. She was employed as a CNA at the Logan Valley Manor in Lyons, NE for 17 years. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Lyons.

Wanda is survived by husband, Tony; daughter, Stacey Toft of Fremont; step-son, Aaron and wife, Amanda Dodge of Columbus, NE; step-daughters, Lisa and husband, Daniel Martines of Denver, CO and Jessica Bates of Lincoln, NE; brothers, William “Chip” and wife, Kathie Riggs of Fremont, R.J. “Dick” and wife, Joanne Riggs of Omaha, James Riggs of Columbus and Thomas and wife, Laurie Riggs of North Bend, NE; sisters, Debbie Kinkenon and Joyce and husband, Richard Mangum all of Fremont; 1 grandchild and 6 step grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and 2 brothers, John and Gary Riggs.

Funeral service will be 1:30 P.M., Friday, July 17, 2015 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 1160 N. Garden City Road in Fremont. Bishop Seth Chappell will officiate. Visitation will be Thursday, with family receiving friends from 5PM to 7PM at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont and continue 1 hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at Memorial Cemetery. Family requests casual attire for the funeral service.

John P. Mohr, 50, of Scribner NE


John P. Mohr age 50 of Scribner passed away  Tuesday July 14 at Fremont Health Medical Center.
Visitation will be Friday with family present from 4pm to 8pm at Ludvigsen’s Scribner Funeral Chapel in Scribner. Graveside service will be held 10:30am Saturday at the Scribner Cemetery with full military honors by the American Legion Post 121 of Scribner; luncheon to follow.

John was born November 8, 1964 in Fremont to Harry and Sally ‘Barron’ Mohr. He was raised in Scribner and graduated from Scribner High School in 1983. He was in the United States Navy from 1983-1987, serving many locations throughout the world. After his time in the Navy he returned to Scribner. John worked as a Maintenance Electrician for D&L from 1988 to 1995 and Smeal Fire Apparatus from 1995 to 2000. He then found his true passion working on boats as a Marine Mechanic working for Woodcliff Marine and then finally at Valley Marine. He married Patty Mahowald on November 7, 1992. They resided south of Scribner but spent most of their spare time at their cabin they built in Decatur on the Missouri river.

Joyce E. Rabe, age 73, of Surprise, Arizona, formerly of the Arlington, Nebraska area passed away Tuesday July 7, 2015 in Arizona.  Funeral services will be 10 a.m. on Friday at Immanuel Lutheran Church east of Winslow. Joyce was born March 5, 1942 in Fremont to Milton and Roma ‘Johnson’ Meier. She was raised in rural Arlington, attended school in Hooper and graduated from Hooper High School in 1959. After high school Joyce worked at Hormel for a short time. She was married to Rodney Rabe on February 24, 1963 in Fontanelle. They farmed together in rural Arlington. Rodney died on November 17, 1994 but Joyce continued to live on the farm. She spent winters in Arizona before finally moving there permanently several years ago. While living in Nebraska Joyce was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Hooper, since moving to Arizona she was a member of Lord of Life Lutheran Church in Sun City West.

Lois A. Bowman, age 96, of Hooper, Nebraska passed away Wednesday, July 8, 2015, at Fremont Health Medical Center.  Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 14th , at Elim Lutheran Church in Swaburg.  Burial will follow in the Elim Lutheran Cemetery.  Visitation will be Monday from 3 to 8 p.m. with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. at Ludvigsen’s Hooper Funeral Chapel. A memorial fund will be determined at a later date.  Ludvigsen’s Hooper Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Lois Alma Margaret (Meyer) Bowman was born to J. Herman and Sophie (Wobken) Meyer on May 31, 1919 in rural Dodge County near Uehling, Nebraska. Lois grew up attending District #18 school through 8th grade and then attended Uehling High School, graduating in 1936. Throughout her youth she attended St. Paul’s Lutheran Church (Westside) where she was baptized and confirmed. She helped her family on the farm, taught Sunday school, and sang in the choir. She remained on the family farm with her mother Sophie and brother Chris where she helped her brother farm during WW II and nursed her mother through her final years. After her mother’s death, she moved in with her sister Martha and husband Henry Wobken.

On July 14, 1945, Lois married Melvin Arthur Bowman at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, and moved to the Bowman family homestead near Uehling. There she worked as a homemaker, farm wife, and mother. She was active in her church, Elim Lutheran Church (Swaburg), the American Legion Auxiliary, Lutheran Church Women (LCW), the election board, and Dodge County FHA Board.

In later years she enjoyed spending her winters in Arizona near her daughter Joanne, and traveled to Europe several times. She also was an avid china painter, who enjoyed sharing her beautiful work with numerous members of her family and friends. She also played in several bridge card clubs. Lois enjoyed attending her grandchildren’s activities and sporting events at Logan View with the “grandma brigade.”

She was preceded in death by her husband Melvin A. Bowman, parents; brothers: George, Herbert, Christof, Lawrence, Herman, and Gerald Meyer; sisters: Meta and Anna Meyer, Martha Wobken, Katherine Leona Schutte, Alma Heitshusen, Alice Liston, and Myra Muller.

She is survived by her daughter Joanne K. Bowman of Scottsdale, AZ; son and daughter-in-law Ron and Anita Bowman of Fremont, NE; grand children and spouses, Elizabeth and Ken Halvorsen of Lincoln, NE, Dr. Erik and Crystal Bowman of Madison, WI, Alicia and Dr. Erich Schafer of Cedar Springs, MI; great-grandchildren, Jordan Satter and Kaitlyn Halvorsen of Lincoln, NE, Brigham and Ellianna Schafer of Cedar Springs, MI, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Shad L. Miner, 35, of Wakefield, Nebraska died on Thursday, July 9, 2015 at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 14, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at Salem Lutheran Church in Wakefield; Pastor Barbara Hansen will be officiating. The visitation will be held on Monday from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Salem Lutheran Church in Wakefield, with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Burial will be in the Wakefield Cemetery. Shad was born on January 9, 1980 in Pender, NE, the son of Vern and LeAnn (Salmon) Miner. He attended Wakefield High School, graduating in 1998. On May 2, 2009, Shad was united in marriage to Tara McKay at Salem Lutheran Church in Wakefield. To this union one son, Weston, was born. Shad was currently employed with Michael Foods in Wakefield as a warehouse supervisor. He enjoyed many things in his life including golf, fishing and hunting. He was an avid Nebraska Cornhusker and Indianapolis Colts fan. Most of all he enjoyed the time he spent with his family and friends and playing with his son Weston.

He is survived by his wife Tara and son Weston of Wakefield, his mother LeAnn Miner, sister Shanda (John) Geiser and brother Brady Miner, grandparents Dean and Phyllis Salmon, his aunt and uncle Bennett and Kathy Salmon all of Wakefield, NE, and many nieces . nephews and cousins.

Norma Evelyn (Schincke) Meierdierks, 88, passed away Friday, July 10, 2015 at Regency Square Nursing Home in South Sioux City, NE. Funeral services will be Wednesday, July 15, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at Munderloh-Smith Funeral Home in Pender; with Pastor Miles Ruch officiating. Norma was born February 19, 1927 to Victor and Mabel (Lindgren) Schincke in Pender, NE. She attended and graduated from Pender High School. On June 26, 1948, Norma married John Meierdierks in Elk Point, SD. The couple had three children. Norma worked in the courthouse for many years and prepared the bookwork for Meierdierks Hardware. In her free time, Norma enjoyed flowers and gardening.

Norma is survived by her sons, Byron Meierdierks of Pender, NE, Bruce (Kay) Meierdierks of Pender, NE; daughter, Karen (Randy) Tietz of Pender, NE; sister, Amber Simm of Cleghorn, IA; brother, Dale (Florence) Schincke of Dakota Dunes, SD; one grandchild, three great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, John, who passed away November 17, 2010, and an infant sister, Beverly.

Dorothy M. Boley, 91, of Wakefield, Nebraska died on Wednesday, July 08, 2015 at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa. A memorial service will be held on Monday, July 13, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Wakefield; Pastor Dave Rusk will be officiating. The visitation will begin one hour prior to the service on Monday morning at 10:00 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in the Wakefield Cemetery. Dorothy Marie Boley was born on December 23, 1923 in Scottsbluff, NE, the daughter of Walter and Leila (Carpenter) Chinn. The family moved to Wakefield in 1939, and Dorothy graduated from Wakefield High School in 1942. Following graduation she attended business college in Sioux City, IA. Shortly after finishing school she moved to St. Louis, MO in 1947. In 1950, she was united in marriage to Glenn Boley. They moved to a cotton farm near Sikeston, MO. She was the organist at her church for many years in Sikeston. She worked as a legal secretary for the District Attorney retiring in 1985. She soon returned to Nebraska to be closer to her family.

Dorothy enjoyed music, oil painting and time spent at the Wakefield Senior Center. Most of all she loved spending time with her extended family.

She is survived by her sister Jean (Norman) Minola of Wakefield and many nieces and nephews.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Glenn, a sister and brother-in-law June and Cecil Rhodes and her niece Deb Rhodes Skinner.
