Kathleen A. “Kathy” Sila Frye, age 64, of Honey Creek, Iowa, formerly of West Point, Nebraska, passed away June 22  at her home, surrounded by her loving family.

Funeral service, Friday10:00 a.m. at the funeral home. A lunch will follow at the Walnut Hill Reception Center, 1350 E. Pierce St. in Council Bluffs, IA.

Recitation of the Rosary, Thursday, June 25th at 6:00 p.m. followed by visitation with the family present until 8:00 p.m.  at Cutler-O’Neill-Meyer-Woodring Bayliss Park Chapel in Council Bluffs.

The family will direct memorials.

Interment St. Michael Cemetery, West Point, Nebraska with food and fellowship at the Neligh Park in West Point.

Kathy was born March 28, 1951 in West Point, to the late Virgil V. and Lucille (Uhing) Sila. She graduated from Lyons, Nebraska High School in 1969. Kathy was a housekeeper at Indian Hills Nursing Home  in Council Bluffs for 17 years and also worked in various restaurants and factories. She was of the Catholic faith. Kathy enjoyed fishing, crocheting, embroidering, the Casino and her grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Kathy was preceded in death by her nephews, Todd Snyder and Robert Frye, Jr.; sisters-in-law, Betty Grady and Mary Snyder; brothers-in-law, Robert Frye, Sr. and Monte Frye. Kathy leaves to mourn, the love of her life, whom she married on June 4, 1991 in Omaha, Harold Frye of Honey Creek; children, Tim Sila of Pender, Nebraska, Kathy Copple of Beemer, Nebraska, Jodi Frye, Jason (Tina) Frye  all of West Point, Nebraska, Tammy (Shawn) Harper of Honey Creek, Iowa; 9 grandchildren; sister, Joan (Ed) Mundil of Hooper, Nebraska; brother, Gary (Lois) Sila of West Point, Nebraska; special puppy, Baby Boy “Tigger”; many nieces and nephews.

Elizabeth Ann “Betty” Coffman, 81, of Tekamah NE


Elizabeth Ann “Betty” Coffman, 81 years of Tekamah, Nebraska passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 20th at the Golden Living Center in Tekamah after a lingering illness.

Betty was born on August 18, 1933 in Tekamah, Nebraska, the second of three children, to George and Mildred (Marshall) Plummer.  She received her education in Tekamah, graduating from Tekamah High School in 1951.

On March 4, 1951, Betty married Robert E. Coffman. To this union two children were born; Dan and Denise. They resided on a farm north of Tekamah in Riverside Township for 24 years until moving into town in 1975.

Betty was a devoted wife for 64 years and loving mother, who took joy in helping Bob on the farm driving tractors and grain trucks while also keeping active in her children’s lives. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Tekamah and served as the church organist for many years, playing at Sunday services, weddings and funerals. As a member of PW, (Presbyterian Women), Betty worked with the Hospitality Group preparing food and working in the kitchen for dinners and funerals held at church.  Betty’s musical talent kept her busy as the organist for the Order of Eastern Star and Job’s Daughters for many years as well.

Betty also worked for Burt County 6R Country School, Farm Bureau Insurance and Burt County Bank Insurance Company in Tekamah.

Over the years, Betty has enjoyed bowling league, raising a large garden and canning.  She was an excellent cook and baker, loved to read books and her card game of choice was ‘Pitch’.  After she and Bob retired from farming in 1992, they started to enjoy traveling to different places, most especially to South Padre Island, Texas where, for over 20 years, they would spend wonderful winters together. During her lifetime, she has enjoyed many friendships both near and far.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Robert and Jim Plummer; her beloved daughter, Denise Trumbo.

Betty is survived by her husband, Robert “Bob” Coffman of Tekamah; son, Dan (Jeanine) Coffman of Streamwood, Ill; son-in-law Gary Trumbo of Fremont, NE; three grandchildren, Kecia Zimmerman of Omaha, NE, Sarah (Matt) Lieber of Lincoln, NE, Danielle Coffman of Streamwood, IL; three great grandchildren, Hunter and Hailee Zimmerman, Logan Lieber; brothers-in-law, Donald (Dolores) Coffman, Ed (Barb) Coffman all of Tekamah.

Delores J. (Swanson) Danielson, 86, of Oakland NE


Delores J. (Swanson) Danielson, was born to Clarence and Blanche (Johnson) Swanson on November 18, 1928 in Oakland, Nebraska. She passed away June 17, 2015 at Oakland Heights Nursing Home, in Oakland at the age of 86 years.

Delores attended Pleasant Way Rural School and graduated from Oakland High School. She graduated from Dana College with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education.

On May 25, 1956 Delores was married to Kenneth Danielson at First Covenant Church in Oakland. This was the same church in which Delores had been baptized and later confirmed. They shared their lives on the farm, and celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary, before Kenneth passed away on June 29, 2007.  Delores moved to Oakland Heights Assisted Living, and later to Oakland Heights Nursing Home.

Delores managed the Ladies’ Style Shop in Oakland during her early years. She also was an active rural school teacher for many years, and had fond memories of many of her students. After retiring from teaching, she managed the Golden Oaks for several years.

She enjoyed belonging to Hooper Saddle Club, and went on many saddle club rides. She loved holidays, and was a collector of Hallmark Christmas ornaments. Her nieces and nephews loved to stay at her home, as she always served Swedish Pancakes for breakfast. She was a good supporter of Oakland-Craig sports, following all the games and activities.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Kenneth; brothers, Donald and Harlan Swanson; sister-in-law, DonnaVee Swanson; nephew, Michael Cull.

She is survived by sisters-in-law, Mylet Swanson of Ralston, NE, Norma (Glenn) Cull of Oakland, Kathryn (Stan) Granatowicz of Omaha, NE; nephews, Keith, Scott, Steve and Joe Swanson, Todd Cull, Dan and Mitch Granatowicz; nieces, Kim Janssen, Joan Hellbough, Sandra Hunley, Karen Loudon; many wonderful great nieces and nephews.

Perry Michael “Mike” Martin, 75, of Lincoln, NE, formerly of Emerson, NE and Granville, IA, passed away Monday, June 15, 2015 at Lancaster Manor in Lincoln. Funeral services will be Friday, June 19, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Emerson, NE; Father Gerald Leise is officiating. A visitation will be held Thursday, June 18, 2015 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with a rosary service at 7:00 p.m. A visitation will also be from 3:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Granville, IA, with burial at 4:00 p.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery in Granville, IA. Memorials may be directed to the family for future designation. Munderloh-Smith Funeral Home in Emerson, NE are in charge of arrangements. Mike was born on May 7, 1940 to Floyd and Clare (McTaggert) Martin on a farm near Emerson, NE. In 1959, he graduated from Sacred Heart Catholic School, and from a trade school in Omaha in 1961. Mike enlisted into the United States Army serving during the Korean War from 1962 thru 1964. On November 12, 1966, he was united in marriage to Patricia McCarthy in Alton, Iowa. They made their home in Emerson, NE where he worked on the farm until 1994, when they moved to Granville. On April 26, 2009, Patricia died. Soon after her death, Mike moved to Lincoln to be closer to his family. He was a member of the American Legion and the Knights of Columbus and former member of the Sacred Heart Parish Council, the Emerson Rural Fire Department and in the mid 1980’s was a Farm Crisis Representative.

Mike is survived by his four sons, a daughter, their spouses, and sixteen grandchildren; James and Leona Martin and their children, Matt and Brittany Michelson, Cassandra, Danielle, and Breanna Martin, of LeMars, IA, Melissa and Mike Oehm and their children, Tyler, Josh and Daniel Oehm of Lincoln, NE, Dean and Teri Martin and their children, Taylor and Ethan Martin of Lincoln, NE, Jon and Dora Martin and their children, Waylon and his wife Amanda, Barak Holt and Bridgette Martin of El Paso, TX, Eric and Nikke Martin and their children, Jacob Helsel, Owen and Brady Martin of Waverly, NE, two great-grandchildren, Raenell and Leilani Holt of El Paso, TX; a brother Jack Martin of Emerson, NE brother-in-laws and their wives, Duane and Mary Ann McCarthy of Lafayette, IN, Jim and Reina McCarthy of Tyrone, NM, Terry and Nit McCarthy of Fort Worth, TX, Michael and Rizza McCarthy of Hayward, CA, and Brad McCarthy of Davenport, IA, three sister-in-laws, Carol Holles of Sheldon, IA, Kay and Paul Reimer of Danbury, IA, and Mary and Jerel Schomer of Lee’s Summit, MO.

Wendy Lynn Ziemann, 41, of Oakland NE


Wendy Lynn Ziemann was born to Gwendolyn and Irvin Ziemann on December 7, 1973 in Spooner, Wisconsin. She passed away in her sleep on Thursday, June 11, 2015, at her home in Oakland, Nebraska at the age of 41 years.

As a child, Wendy moved to Florida with her parents. Wendy attended school in Lakeland.

On July 2, 1995, Wendy gave birth to a son named Corey McLaughlin.

Wendy worked from 1997-1999 as Assistant Manager at Cypress Gardens in Winter Haven, Florida.

She is survived by her son, Corey of Oakland; mother, Gwendolyn Timmons of Oakland; father, Irvin of Lakeland; sister, Heidi Creason of Bartow, FL.

David W. Smith, 44, of Uehling NE


Funeral services for David W. Smith age 44 of Uehling, NE will be held on Monday, June 15th at 10:30 a.m. at the Minnick Funeal Home in West Point, NE. Interment with military honors will be on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at the Ft. McPherson National Cemetery, near Maxwell, NE. Visitation will be on Sunday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Minnick Funeral Home in West Point.

David passed away on Wednesday, June 10, 2015 at the Fremont Area Medical Center.

David Wayne Smith was born on September 21, 1970 at Omaha, NE to Charles and Sally (Smith) Smith. He grew up in Omaha and graduated from Omaha Gross High School in 1989. After graduation he worked as a security guard. He joined the United States Army Reserves and was called to Active Duty in support of Operation Desert Shield/Storm in October of 1990 and received the Southwest Asia Service Medal with 3 Bronze Service Stars, Kuwait Liberation Medal and an Overseas Service Bar. Upon returning he attended technical school and received his degree in programming. Since 2002 he has worked as a systems engineer for Future Foam in Council Bluffs, IA. On December 26, 2007, he was united in marriage to Julie (Liermann) Smith at West Point, NE.

David was a member of Uehling Fire and Rescue as an EMT. He enjoyed spending time with the family outdoors, whether it was fishing, riding the seadoo, four-wheeler and motorcycle. David loved his firearms and traveling.
