Carol Elaine (Westerhold) Larsen, 64, of Lyons NE


Carol Elaine (Westerhold) Larsen was born to Martin and Emma (Windels) Westerhold on January 3, 1951 at Pender Community Hospital in Pender, Nebraska.  She passed away Saturday, May 2, 2015 at her home in rural Lyons, Nebraska.

Carol grew up on the family farm west of Pender.  She was confirmed at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church.  She attended elementary school at District #57 and District #82 and high school at Wisner High School and Pender High School.

In April 1969, she was married to Mickel Larsen at the Covenant Church in Pender.  To this union, one son, Mickel was born.  They lived in Emporia, Kansas before moving to Snyder, Nebraska, where they lived for many years.  They then moved to Lyons.  Mickel and Carol later divorced.

Carol was an excellent cook and was employed as such at several restaurants throughout her life.  She had a great sense of humor and was a very caring mother and grandmother.  She enjoyed solving crossword puzzles.

Carol spent many happy years with her closest friend Darrell E. Launsby, of rural Lyons.   They had a special relationship and took very good care of each other.  Carol especially enjoyed taking care of their home and those she loved.

She was preceded in death by her parents; friend Darrell, on March 17, 2015.

Survivors include one son, Mickel (Tabitha) Larsen of West Point, NE; three grandchildren, Joshua, Angela, and Summer all of West Point; two sisters, Janet (Rod) Smith, Gail Brondum both of Omaha, NE; three brothers, Dale of Evans, CO; Bill (Shirley) of Omaha, Mark (Judi) of Cody, WY;  many nieces and nephews.

MEMORIAL SERVICE: Friday, May 8, 2015, 2:00 pm at Pelan Funeral Services in Lyons.

Allen Edward “Allie” Neiburg, 82, of Oakland NE


Allen Edward “Allie” Neiburg, was born May 5, 1932, in Oakland, Nebraska, to George Ben and Lillian Linnea (Larson) Neiburg. He passed away Thursday, April 30, 2015 at the Logan Valley Manor in Lyons, Nebraska at the age of 82 years.

Allie’s church, Salem Covenant, meant a great deal to him.  He always carried his bible with him.

He loved to camp and fish with his fishing buddies: Caleb, Emma, Brendon, Ashton, Grace, Britton, Noah and Lily. Allie also spent numerous days with his special friend, Mary, sitting outside their apartments and just watching over the neighborhood.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Charles, Gerald and Lyle; uncles and aunts.

Survivors include nieces and nephews; and special friend, Jami (Garold) Method of Craig, NE.

CAROL E. LARSON, 64 years, of Lyons, Nebraska passed away on May 2, 2015 at her residence.

Myron Peterson, 77, of Laurel NE


Myron Paul Peterson, 77, of Laurel, Nebraska died on Saturday, May 2, 2015 at the Wisner Care Center in Wisner, Nebraska. Memorial services for Myron will be held on Wednesday, May 6, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Laurel, Nebraska with Pastor Jamie Farias officiating. A memorial visitation will be held on Tuesday from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the church. Burial with military honors will be in the Concord Cemetery in Concord, Nebraska. Memorials are suggested to the family for future designation. Bressler – Munderloh – Smith Funeral Home of Wakefield is in charge of the services.

Myron was born in Wayne, Nebraska on May 25, 1937, the son of Arvid and Ethel (Magnuson) Peterson. He was baptized and confirmed at Concordia Lutheran Church in Concord and graduated from Concord High School in 1955. Myron entered the United States Air Force and was stationed in Saudi Arabia and California. On November 9, 1958, he was married to Mary Mann at Whittier, CA. After leaving the services, Myron worked at Lowell Joint School District in La Habra, CA. Myron and Mary returned to Nebraska in 1976. He worked from P&W Sales constructing grain bins, and with Cedar County Roads Departments. His greatest joy working was with the Laurel Concord School District as a bus driver and a grounds keeper.

He is survived by his wife Mary, daughter Linda (Roger) Kvols, a son Paul (Diane) Peterson, five grandchildren and six great grandchildren with another coming this June. Myron is also survived by a sister-in-law Caroline Peterson, sister and brother-in-laws Nancy (Ken) Nair, Betty (Terry) Graf, Rick (Connie) Mann, his Aunt Evonne Magnuson and many nieces and nephews.

Myron was preceded in death by his parents Arvid and Ethel, infant son Cory Peterson, infant grandson Kale Kvols, brother Verneal Peterson and brother and sister-in-law Iner (Naomi) Peterson.

John Douglas Dekker, 80, of Lyons NE


JOHN DOUGLAS DEKKER was born to Fred and Helen (Gaass) Dekker August 16, 1934 in Pella, IA.  He passed away April 29, 2015 at St. Francis Memorial Hospital in West Point, NE after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease.

John attended grade school in Pella and then the family moved to Bellevue, NE in August of 1942 because his Dad accepted a job in the bomber plant where they built the B-29’s.  He graduated from Bellevue High School in 1954.

On December 30, 1957 John was united in marriage to Marjorie (Jeri) Ann Butts.  In January 1958 the couple moved to San Antonio, TX where John served in the US Army at Fort Sam Houston.  John and Jeri moved back to Bellevue in 1959 where John worked for Western Electric.  In 1968 they made their long time home in Lyons, NE where John worked as a communications technician for AT&T until he retired in 1995.  John moved to Oakland Heights Nursing Home in July, 2014.

John was an avid photographer, having a dark room in their home in Bellevue.  Many people fondly remember him with his camera everywhere he went.   He loved computers and technology and assisted many friends and relatives with their computer needs.

John volunteered with various organizations in Lyons and the surrounding area including the Lyons Little League Baseball program, the Jaycees, Lyons Community Foundation Board, St. Joseph’s Retirement Community Foundation Board, and the United Memorial Methodist Church in Lyons.  He played an integral role in the building of the Lyons Public Library as well as serving on their Board for many years.  John and Jeri were awarded the Aksarben Good Neighbor of the Year Award.

John enjoyed spending time with family and friends but most of all loved watching (and taking photos of) his children and grandchildren in their various sporting events and activities.

John was preceded in death by his parents; parents-in-law, Bill and Eva Butts; brothers, Robert Dekker and Dave Dekker; his sister, Vera Jane Johansen; and sister-in-law, Mary Ellen Valenziano.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Jeri of Lyons, sons and daughters-in-law Doug and Cherie Dekker of Norfolk, NE, Mark and Shawn Dekker of Centerville, IA; daughter and son-in-law Jane and Steve Weiler of West Point, NE; nine grandchildren and spouses/special friends, Joseph Dekker and Tressa Danze, Christopher and Mallory Dekker, Michael Dekker and Tarassa Swedberg, Jennifer Dekker, Kate and Luke Stamp, Zachary and Lisa Weiler, Jenica and John Dietrich, Kara and Josh Perchal and Anna Weiler;  four great grandchildren, Gracie Stamp, Brayton Dietrich and Shelby & Presley Perchal;  sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Floyd Johansen, Delores Dekker, Nancy Dekker, Joel Valenziano, Steve and Gloria Butts, Richard and Barbara Butts, Lucia and Louie Martinez, James and Liz Butts, Jean and Charles Heider, Bill and Lisa Butts and Ted and Jody Butts; many nieces, nephews and friends.

FUNERAL SERVICE: Saturday, May 2, 2015, 10:30 am at Memorial United Methodist Church in Lyons.

VISITATION: Friday, 5-7 pm with family receiving friends and a 7 pm prayer service all at Pelan Funeral Services in Lyons. Visitation will also be held at the church one hour prior to service.

BURIAL: Saturday, 1:30 pm, St. Micheal’s Cemetery, West Point, Nebraska

Donald E. Berg, 81, of Scribner NE


Donald E. ‘Don’ Berg, age 81, of Scribner, Nebraska passed away Wednesday April 29, 2015, at Nye Legacy in Fremont, Nebraska.  Memorial service will be Saturday, 10:30 a.m. at the United Lutheran Church in Scribner.  The Rev. Scott Jensen will officiate.  Visitation with the family receiving friends will be Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Ludvigsen’s Scribner Funeral Chapel in Scribner.  In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to the Craig Community Foundation and the Scribner Rescue Squad. Don was born March 19, 1934 in Craig, NE. to Burt and Anna (Anderson) Berg. He graduated from Craig High School in 1951. He married Joan Ellerman on July 22, 1956 in Scribner. Don served in the U.S. Army from 1958 to 1959 stationed at Virginia Fort Belvoir. After his service he worked for Viv Carlson trucking. In 1963 Don and Joan moved to Scribner. Don bought Don Kruger Transfer and started Berg Transfer, hauling cattle and grain. In 1981 he sold the business and worked for JJ Parks (later called Omni) driving construction trucks.  He then went to work for Scribner Grain until his retirement.

Don was a past member of the Craig Fire Department and Methodist Church. He was the Mayor of Scribner from 1970-1982.
