Teola Faye “Tillie” Davis, 93, of Blair NE


Teola Faye “Tillie” Davis was born to Frank and Bessie (Wildman) McAllister on February 20, 1922, in Decatur, Nebraska. She passed away Tuesday, March 10, 2015, at Memorial Community Hospital in Blair, Nebraska, at the age of 93, following a short illness.

Tillie lived with her parents and four siblings in Burt County. This is also where she completed her education.

On December 7, 1941 Tillie was married to George William “Bill” Davis in Tekamah, Nebraska. They lived in Burt County their entire married life. Tillie was a homemaker, and took pride in keeping a clean home and cooking. Her greatest joy however, was in spending time with her family.  Following Bill’s death, Tillie moved to Blair, where she still lived at the time of her death.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bill, in August 1999; two brothers; two sisters.

She is survived by her children, Gary (Ila) Davis, Judy Davis, all of Papillion, NE, Jim (Sheryl) Davis, of Castle Rock, CO, Linda Chatt (Larry Harmon), of Beemer, NE; sister-in-law, Myra White; 10 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; numerous nieces and nephews.

MEMORIAL SERVICE: MARCH 21, 2015, 10:30 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Tekamah, Nebraska.

MEMORIAL GATHERING: MARCH 20, 2015, 5-7 p.m. at Pelan Funeral Home in Tekamah.

BURIAL: Tekamah Cemetery.

Marvin Henry Meier, 89, of Wayne NE


Marvin Henry Meier, 89, of Wayne, Nebraska passed away Monday, March 9, 2015 at Careage Campus of Care in Wayne, NE. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 14, 2015 at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Wayne, NE; with Pastor Jeanne Madsen officiating. Visitation will be held 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Friday, March 13, 2015 at Bressler-Munderloh-Smith Funeral Home in Wakefield, NE; visitation will resume Saturday, March 14, 2015 at 9:30 a.m. at Our Savior Lutheran Church with the family present. Burial with military honors will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Wayne, NE. Memorials may be given to the family for future designation. Arrangements are under the direction of Bressler-Munderloh-Smith Funeral Home in Wakefield, NE.

Marvin was born March 4, 1926 in Wayne County to Arthur and Emma (Holst) Meier. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in rural Wakefield. Marvin attended District #33 Country School in Wayne County. On June 24, 1948 Marvin married Delores Hammer at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Wayne. He served in the Army from 1952 until 1954; serving in Japan.

Marvin was a lifelong farmer in Wayne County, farming South of Wayne and Wakefield until moving North of Wayne in 1966. Marvin semi-retired from faming when he moved to Wayne in 1997. Marvin continued to help with the farm and livestock until having knee surgery in 2006. In May 2011, Marvin moved to the Wayne Care Center.

Marvin was a member of the American Legion and Our Savior Lutheran Church in Wayne, NE. He enjoyed numerous summer vacations in Missouri to visit his relatives.

Marvin is survived by his daughter, Debra (Jim) Johnson of Wayne, NE; grandsons, Brian (Leslie) Johnson of Wayne, NE and Daniel (Amy) Johnson of Lincoln, NE; great grandchildren, Brett Johnson, Tyler Johnson and Brooklyn Johnson; sister Mardelle Brudigan of Wayne, NE; special niece, Nancy (Bob) Sutton of Wayne, NE and numerous other relatives, friends and neighbors.

Marvin is preceded in death by his wife, Delores in 1970; parents; sister, Verna Mae (Harry) Bargholz and brother-in-law Donald Brudigan.

Doak Wegner, 58, of West Point NE Formerly of Bancroft NE


Doak Wegner age 58 of West Point, Nebraska formerly of Bancroft, Nebraska passed away on Tuesday, March 10, 2015 at the Pender Community Hospital. Funeral services will be on Monday, March 16, 2015 at 2 p.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church, rural Bancroft, NE.  Interment will be in the Bancroft Cemetery.  Visitation will be held Sunday from 3 to 8 p.m. at the Minnick Funeral Home in West Point and will continue on Monday from noon to 2 p.m. at the church.  In lieu of flowers, it is suggested to direct memorials to the family for future designation.  On Monday the service will be broadcast to the school to accommodate additional seating.  Minnick Funeral Home in West Point, Nebraska is in charge of arrangements.

Doak Leon Wegner was born on December 6, 1956 at Oakland, NE to Lester and Eva June (Block) Wegner.  He was baptized at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Bancroft, NE and was confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church rural Bancroft, NE.  Doak attended Zion Lutheran Parochial School and graduated from Bancroft High School in 1975.  On July 1, 1978, he was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart Patty Larsen at St.   Paul’s Lutheran Church in Bancroft, NE.  The couple farmed near Bancroft and in 2000 moved into Bancroft.  In June 2014, they moved to West Point, NE.

Doak was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church rural Bancroft, serving as elder, was head usher and on the Zion Lutheran School board.  Doak Played for the West Point Bombers baseball team from 1979 to 1992, coached Zion basketball, junior high basketball at Bancroft-Rosalie.   He served on the Bancroft Baseball Board and was a longtime coach for Little League Baseball in Bancroft and also coached the NE All-Stars from 1992 to 2006.  Doak ran the clock at the football and basketball games at Bancroft-Rosalie, kept book for Pender American Legion games and also drove the activity bus for Bancroft-Rosalie High School.

Doak enjoyed taking trips with his family, was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan, and especially enjoyed being “Papa” to his grandkids.

Doris Anderson, 98, of Oakland NE


Doris Matilda Sophia Anderson was born to Elof and Elsa (Johnson) Johnson on a farm in rural Oakland, NE on December 21, 1916.  At the age of 8, her cousin Linnea came to live with their family; she often said this was the best thing that ever happened to either of them, since then they each had a sister. She attended District 13 School, graduating from Oakland High School in 1934.

On February 5, 1940, Doris married Harold Anderson. The first year they were married Doris and Harold picked the corn crop by hand because they were too poor to buy machinery. In 1942, they welcomed their first of 5 daughters, Barbara, followed by Eileen, Carole, Jane, and Laurie. Doris and Harold lived on the farm south of Oakland for 42 years, until they moved to town (Oakland) in 1982.  Doris lived in the same house on Davis Avenue which was the gathering place for Sunday morning “coffee” until she moved to Oakland Heights Assisted Living in 2011.  She resided at Oakland Heights until the time of her death on March 10, 2015. Doris was a lifelong member of First Lutheran Church in Oakland, and was very active in Harmony Club, Dorcas, Garden Club, and LCW. She was active on the farm, helping Harold when needed, and was an exceptional homemaker and cook.  Her family loved staying at Grandma’s for Sunday dinner, and was happy to continue going to Grandma’s for “coffee” even up until last week.

Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Anderson (1985); daughter and son-in-law, Barbara (1990) and Frank Furneisen (2009); son-in-law, Gene Johnson (2014); grandson, Scott Wright (2014); and cousin, Linnea Swift (2013)

Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Eileen (Bob) Wright of Omaha, NE, Carole Johnson of West Point, NE, Jane (Bob) Moseman of Oakland, Laurie (Dave) Schold of Oakland; 11 grandchildren, Bob (Jill) Furneisen of Kona, HI, Kerstin Furneisen of St. Louis, MO, Tammy Wright of Omaha, Mark Wright of Omaha, Clint (Erin) Johnson of Fort Calhoun, NE, Eric (Mindy) Johnson of Lincoln, NE, Rachel (Adam) Petersen of Lincoln, Janna (Michael) Kloth of Brandon, SD, Tony (Casey) Moseman of Oakland, Jesse (Kim) Schold of Oakland, Cory (Taysha) Schold of Norfolk, NE; and 25 great-grandchildren

Edward E. Steiner, 93, of Emerson, NE, passed away Sunday, March 8, 2015 at Heritage of Emerson in Emerson, NE. Funeral services will be Wednesday, March 11, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at Munderloh-Smith Funeral Home in Emerson, NE; Pastor Gretchen Ritola will be officiating. Ed was born July 11, 1921 to Fritz and Bertha Steiner in Emerson, NE. He attended country school near Hubbard, NE; and later worked on the farm for his sister and brother-in-law. For a short time, he worked for Goodwill Industries in South Sioux City, NE, before moving into Emerson with his family. Ed enjoyed having coffee, visiting with friends, and was known for picking up cans around Emerson.

He is survived by nephews, Leroy R. Steiner Robert L. (Susan) Steiner, nieces, Carol Steiner, Diane (Mrs. Tom) Batcheldor, Lois (Michael) Ellis, Marie Laughlin and Susan Lloyd.

Edward was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Ann (Demers) McAfee, brother, Fred Steiner; and brother-in-law, John Demers.
