Golden Oaks Fundraiser Sale

Golden Oaks Senior Center in Oakland, NE had a fundraiser sale on Thursday and Friday, May 1st and 2nd. This event assists in supporting the center that many senior citizens in the area attend daily. There were many items brought in my members of the community to be sold with profits going to the center. “It has been very busy each day,” stated Hilda Benne, who was the cashier during the event. Golden Oaks has many other fundraisers throughout the year, such as luncheons, that are open to the public. Stop in Golden Oaks and visit. Coffee time is 3:00 p.m. daily.

Bring on the Sunshine!

The last few days have been cloudy and dreary. Some much needed rain was very welcome however! Now, it is time to see some sunshine and enjoyable spring weather. A year ago today, it snowed. It wasn’t a major snow event, thankfully, which makes today look all the brighter! Happy May Day to all of my readers. You make my day bright and sunny every day. Enjoy your day and the upcoming weekend as sunshine and warmer weather are predicted.

Roundabout Start Date Approaching

“The purpose of building the roundabout is to reduce high speed right angle crashes at the intersection,” stated Kevin Domogalla from the Nebraska Department of Roads.

Construction of the roundabout at the intersection of Highways 32 and 77 on the south edge of Oakland is set to begin July 14th. “Crews are working there now taking down trees before nesting season,” Domogalla said.

The project is expected to be complete in November. “The crew will have seventy-five working days to complete the roundabout. This is taking weather into consideration,” Domogalla stated.

The roundabout will be designed to handle semi traffic. “It will be the largest radius circle,” Domogalla said.

Traffic will have detours to follow during construction. “There are five phases of construction of the roundabout and each phase has two stages. Traffic will be re-routed accordingly,” Domogalla stated.

As always, Kat Country Hub will keep readers informed as to the status of the roundabout and necessary detour information provided from the Nebraska Department of Roads.
