Jacob Swanson on Music Technology at LDNE

By Jacob Swanson

LDNE Music Student

Here at Lyons-Decatur Northeast we have a class called Music Technology. It is a class where students write articles for the newspaper paper, organize and produce all secondary concerts, and to perform as the Northeast iPad Ensemble.

This is a unique opportunity for Lyons Decatur students because not many schools have a chance to do this. Every 1 out of 10 schools have a Music Te

chnology class which is a really cool addition to the concerts we have.

At all of the concerts, the Music Technology students take care of the sound, lights,  take a video of the whole concert, and to make the concert run smoothly. In Music Technology, my favorite part is playing music. Currently we are working hard to play “This is my Kind of Night” by Luke Bryan. We have done all different genres of music but this is our first country song. In the past we have played “Thriller” by Michael Jackson, “Sail” by Awolnation and many other songs.

LDNE Students Attend Honor Choir and Band

By Taylor Fuston

LDNE Student

Five students traveled to Stanton to attend the honor choir and honor band. What was special about this honor choir/ honor band is that they had both the honor choir and honor band going on at the same time. Normal honor choirs and honor bands are not held at the same time. The honor bands director was Mr. Roger Thaden.

Reid Preston and Layne Miller were in the band and they did an excellent job. Reid plays the trombone and Layne plays the trumpet and both got first chair. The honors choirs director was Dr. Elise Hepworth. The other three students Matthew Hartley, Cassidy Mentink and Amanda Alford all sang in the choir and they did a wonderful job. The music they sang was a bit tougher than they were used to. “

Those attending honor band and choir were:John Mayo, music instructor, Lane Miller, Matthew Hartley, Amanda Alford, Cassidy Mentink and Reid Preston.

Got to love them Pep Band parents!

With all the love and support they bring, the Pep Band students wanted to show their love and appreciation for them and have a Pep Band parents night, on Tuesday, January 21, 2014.

Lots of love was shown with flowers, pop, candy, and just some good old fashion hugs and kisses. And that night the Pep Band was surprised to see their new banner that was donated by the National Guard. We thank all the parents for your love and support through everything we do. Also we want to give a big thanks to the Nebraska National Guard that graciously donated the wonderful banner, which was designed by Mrs. Seagren’s  graphic design class. Thank you again to all the parents and the Nebraska National Guard!

Music technology is quite a fun class. I enjoy it for many reasons. A couple are my friends, the teacher, and the things we do.

My friends make it enjoyable and much easier for me because they know notes better than I do. I have made better friends with some of the students that are in music tech. Before music tech, I hardly talked to the majority of the people in class.

My teacher, Mr. Mayo, teaches very well. He breaks things down enough for me to understand since I don’t have much knowledge in music. He broke down reading notes and music.

I have never played the piano or drums before and now I have a better idea of how to. Thanks to him I am getting better at music. Mr.Mayo is also a very funny teacher and keeps us entertained but also knows how to get things done. I enjoy the things we do because we play songs on the i-pads using the app garageband.
