Caregiver and Support Group to Meet


The monthly Caregiver Support Group will meet at the Bancroft Senior Center, Monday, September 19 at 2:00 p.m. We discuss a variety of topics at these meetings. The personal information shared by the caregivers, during the meeting, is kept confidential. All caregivers are invited to attend.

We had a nice Grandparents Day potluck this past Sunday it was nice to see everyone here. Residents are looking forward to the Waffle Supper that is coming up on Thursday September 15th at 5:30 pm. Kick off time for Saturday September 17th Nebraska Football game is at 11:30 am on ABC. Next week we are celebrating fall with a Apple Jack Party on Thursday September 22nd at 2:30 pm. We have several residents celebrating birthdays this week and next, Jene Hightree on Sept. 16, Lorna Olson celebrates her 101st Birthday on September 19th and Dale Johnson on Sept. 24th.

Church Service for Sunday September 18th will be given by Craig/Alder Grove Church at 2:30 pm with a luncheon following. On Monday September 19th at 2:30 pm is Communion with First Lutheran Church.

Activities for the week of Sept 19th to Sept 24 th are as follows, Reading with Jill, Manicures, Sing a Long, Game Day, Bingo the w/Salem, Reading Group, Bible Fellowship,   Let’s Play Ball, Crafty Cooking, Friday Bingo, Saturday morning video, and Lawrence Walk.

Mary Ann Method, 98, of Tekamah NE


Mary Ann (Blackwell) Method was born May 26, 1918 to Jesse and Clara (Kroehler) Blackwell in Omaha, Nebraska. She passed away Saturday, September 10, 2016 at Memorial Community Hospital in Blair, Nebraska, at the age of 98 years.

Mary Ann graduated from North High School, in Omaha, in 1936. In high school, she was the girls’ ping-pong champion. She attended business school, and prior to marriage, worked for Guaranteed Mutual.

Mary Ann married George William Method November 28, 1943. They lived on a farm in Burt County, in the Quinnebaugh Township, all their married life. Mary Ann, a city girl, adjusted quickly to being a farmer’s wife. To this union, five children were born; Barbara, Eileen, Linda, Marilee and Bill. Following the death of her husband on January 26, 1980, she remained on the farm, while her son farmed. In 1986 she moved to Tekamah, Nebraska.

She was an active member of the Riverside Baptist Church, serving as a Sunday school teacher, pianist and secretary. She was a 50 year Eastern Star member, having served as Worthy Matron in Decatur, Nebraska. She was active in the Extension Club. She served on the Board of the Chatt Senior Center. She loved everyone and enjoyed her grandchildren, dancing, reading and playing cards.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, George; grandchildren, Janelle and Derek Curtis.

She is survived by her children, Barbara (David) Anderson of Watsonville, CA, Eileen (Jerry) Klindt of Anthon, IA, Linda (Richard) Curtis of Chittenango, NY, Marilee (Russell) Jensen of Omaha, Bill (Laurel) Method of Decatur; grandchildren, Angela (Rodrigo) Enriquez of San Francisco, CA, Kurt Anderson of Santa Cruz, CA, Lisa (Scott) Dulitz of Shawnee, KS, Jason (Nichole) Klindt of Kansas City, MO, Ryan (Andrea) Curtis of Syracuse, NY, Kimberly (Greg) Palmer of Omaha, Lori (Joe) Felstow of Omaha, Jessica (Drew) Iverson of Huron, SD, Andrew Method of Raleigh, NC, Derek Method of Decatur; sister, Donna Beth Head of San Marcos, CA; eight great grandchildren and one on the way.

Visitation will be Thurs., Sept. 15th from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Pelan Funeral Services in Tekamah. Family will be receiving friends during this time with Eastern Star Service at 7:00 p.m.

The Funeral Service is Fri., Sept. 16th at 10:30 a.m. at Riverside Baptist Church.

Burial is in the Tekamah Cemetery.

Memorials suggested to the family for designation at a later time.

Millicent J. Troupe, 93 years, of Oakland, Nebraska, passed away Monday, May 16, 2016 at Oakland Heights in Oakland.

Millicent Joan Troupe was born April 3, 1923 in Oakland, Nebraska to Clyde C. and Edna (Neff) Neumann. Millicent passed away on Monday, May 16, 2016 at Oakland Heights Nursing Home in Oakland at the age of 93 years, 1 month and 13 days.

Millicent’s roots in Oakland were deep, as her grandfather’s family (her father was 6 months old) came to Oakland from Illinois in 1881 – thus her love of Oakland history. Millicent had finished her goal in life by completing her 200 page book of “Oakland History Revisited”. Even with her failing eyesight, she was pleased to finish this gift to Oakland, and donate the proceeds to the Sesquicentennial in 2018.

Michele Lynn Woollen, 54, of Lincoln NE


Michele Lynn (Spires) Woollen was born to Robert and Donna (Land) Spires November 29, 1961 in Geneva, Nebraska. She passed away February 12, 2016 at her residence in Lincoln, Nebraska, at the age of 54.

Michele was raised in Exeter, Nebraska and attended Exeter Public School and Exeter High School before graduating in 1980. She attended the University of Nebraska – Lincoln, and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration in 1984.

In 1985 she set out for Nacodoches, Texas to begin her managerial training for Wal-Mart. She worked at stores in Alva, Oklahoma, moving to Fremont, Kearney, Grand Island and Lincoln, Nebraska; her career spanning 30 years.

On November 20, 1999 she was married to Jerry L. Woollen in Lincoln at St. Mark’s Methodist Church.

Michele had a passion for travel, she was a voracious reader, and enjoyed spending time outside working in her yard. She loved spending time with her family and friends, but her greatest love was her two boys. Her loving and caring spirit, quick-witted humor and the unmistakable joy she brought to all around her will always remain with us.

She was preceded in death by her parents; mother-in-law, Leone (Johnson) Woollen; sister-in-law, Sherri Flood; brother-in-law, Randy Johnsen; nephews, Travis Volkmer, Alex Woollen; niece Laura Kopsa.

She is survived by her husband, Jerry; her sons Landon Jones of Melbourne, Australia and Logan Woollen of Lincoln; siblings, Vicki Kopsa of Lincoln, Spencer Spires of Lincoln, Kathy (Denny) Volkmer of York, NE, Sheila (Thomas) Ekeler of Oakland, NE; father-in-law, Bernard (Juanita) Woollen of Wilcox, NE; brothers-in-law, Ron (Sue) Woollen of Wilcox, Dennis White of Gothenburg, NE, Larry Johnsen of Alma, NE; sisters-in-law, Diane (Clark) Norblade of Axtell, NE, Cheryl (Gary) Gittelson of Oceanside, CA; numerous nieces and nephews, loving relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held Thurs., Feb. 18th from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church in Lincoln NE.

The Funeral Service will be held Fri., Feb. 19th at 11:00 a.m. at the St. Mark’s United Methodist Church in Lincoln NE.

Burial is in the Greenwood Cemetery in York, NE.

Memorials are suggested to the family for a later designation.

Marilyn L. (Lutjen) Wheaton, 80 years, of Lyons, Nebraska, passed away Wednesday, February 10, 2016 at Nye Legacy in Fremont, Nebraska.

Marilyn Louise Wheaton was born to Herman and Anna (Malinowski) Lutjen on August 11, 1935 in Tilden, Nebraska. She passed away February 10, 2016 at Nye Legacy in Fremont, NE, with her family by her side.

Marilyn was baptized in Tilden, confirmed in Bancroft, NE and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Lyons, NE.

At the age of eight her family moved to Bancroft. She attended Paine Country School and graduated from Bancroft High School in 1952. She received her teaching certificate from Wayne State Teachers College in 1952, and taught at Moore School in rural Lyons from 1952-1953.

On July 26, 1953, she was united in marriage to John Wheaton in South Sioux City, NE. To this union six children were born.
