Christine Marie Elliott (Bures)

Christine Marie Elliott (Bures) peacefully passed away at home on January 23, 2016 after nearly a four year battle with ovarian cancer. Unfortunately, this brief obituary cannot possibly do her justice. She was always exceedingly kind and devoted to making all of her family and friends happy. We are all the better for having known her and the poorer for her passing.

She was employed as the Accounting Manager and Kyle Robeson’s beloved assistant at Robeson’s Inc. They truly treated her as family there and she loved them all for it. Her fight these last years was immeasurably easier with their love and support.

She is leaving behind a large family and exceptional group of friends who also love her greatly. She is survived by her husband Tom, son Matthew Pieper, daughters Kayla and Jenna, as well as daughter-in-law Raechel, mother-in-law Chris, sister-in-law Lori, and our precious grandchildren Liam and Elise. She is also survived by her parents Ken and Marilyn and her siblings Carl, Carin, Melissa, and Andy along with their families which includes a large number of much loved nephews and nieces.

Christine’s greatest joy was spending time (never enough) with her family during our annual camping and holiday trips. This was very closely followed by her time shared with her friends, fellow winos, and a good bottle of wine. She also loved being in the sun, nature walks, and her gardens.

There will be a visitation at Mackey-Wright Funeral Home in Monticello on Thursday January 28th from 6-8. There will also be a funeral service Friday morning at 10am and burial at the Monticello Cemetery at 11:30am. In lieu of flowers charitable donations to worthy cancer or hospice charities will be greatly appreciated.

katcountryhub's avatarKat Country Hub

The holidays are over and it is time to get back to reality.

It is such a busy time of the year and also a blessed time of the year.

I enjoyed each and every moment with family and friends. It is a magical time of the year. I did more baking this year than I have in a while. There is nothing better than baking Christmas goodies while Christmas songs are playing throughout the house.

I have one wish: To carry the magical feeling of Christmas with me each and every day. I wish the same for everyone.

I don’t make New Year’s resolutions. I have broken so many over the years I decided to take a different approach.

I am going to give each and every day the best I have. Loving and cherishing each moment, even the bad.

I remember saying to my Aunt how I wished…

Ballot Recount Held, Alta Wolf Removed From Decatur Village Board

katcountryhub's avatarKat Country Hub

The recount for Decatur Village Board member Alta Wolf was held yesterday at the Burt County Courthouse. The previous ballot count was 89 for her removal and 88 against her removal from the village board. Alta was allowed a recount because of the narrow margin being one vote, which is less than one percent of the vote total.

The recount results were the same yesterday, 89 for her removal from the village board and 88 against her removal. Alta is immediately removed from office as a result.

Stay turned to Kat County Hub for further information on a replacement for the now vacant village board seat.

Gasoline Prices: The price of gasoline is declining more slowly than oil, illustrating how consumers aren’t fully benefiting from falling commodities prices.

Typically, gas prices go up and down in tandem with crude oil, the main ingredient. But according to The Wall Street Journal, oil prices have been falling much faster than gas prices. Drivers have paid at least $1 billion more for gasoline than they would have if the historical pattern had continued this year, according to government and industry statistics.

Regular gasoline prices have fallen more than 28% in the past year to an average of $2.18 for a gallon of regular unleaded. By comparison, Brent crude, the global benchmark for oil, has fallen more than 50% to about $50 a barrel.
