We have come to the middle of the month and with that comes our monthly Waffle Supper this Thursday July 17th at 5:30 pm and on Saturday July 19th the Rusty Buckets will be here to sing at 2:30pm. Next week we will be having a Puttin on the Ritz Grill out for the Residents at 11:30 on Tuesday July 22nd and we have a special event on Friday July 25th at 7:00 pm it is our annual funder raiser Ice Cream Social for the Activity Department, we will have entertainment with Ron Schulzkamp, the funds raised help pay for outings for the Residents, seasonal decorations, entertainment, crafts, etc. So come down and enjoy in some ice cream, pie, coffee and entertainment.
We would like to wish a Happy Birthday to Betty Krutilek she celebrates her birthday on July 21st.
Church Service for Sunday July20th at 2:30 pm will be given by the First Lutheran Church with refreshments served afterwards. On Tuesday July 22nd at 9:30 am is Catholic Mass given by Father Paul.
Activities for the week of July21st to July 26th, are as followed, , Reading with Marilyn, Manicures, Reminiscing Group, Game Day, Sing a Long, Crafts, Bingo w/Methodist, Bible Fellowship, Word Games, Let’s Play Ball, Crafty Cooking, Friday Bingo, and Lawrence Welk.

Oakland’s Party in the Park is Thurs., July 3rd. An update to the previous information is: Water Fights are at 8:00 p.m. Kids are to bring their own squirt guns and have a watery blast! Everyone is invited to attend. Come on, come all!!

Hannah Christiansen, daughter of Lisa and Tavis Christiansen. Activities: One Acts for 2 years, FBLA, one year, Student Council one year and volleyball for four years. Honors: Volleyball, 4 years and 4 letters and honorable mention all-conference and two volleyball records. Hannah plans to attend Nebraska Wesleyan University to major in elementary education. Her favorite memory at LDNE is when her and others would go to her house after a football game and have a bonfire.

Tatiayana Harris, granddaughter of Yasmin and Donald Smith. Activities: Volleyball three years, student council four years, Speech two years and One Acts two years. Honors: Choir two letters and one letter in speech. Future plans: Attend Paul Mitchell Beauty School in Denver. Favorite Memory at LDNE: She enjoyed everyday because there was always something new.

Alex Brehmer, son of Vickie and Jamie Brehmer. Activities: Football four years, FBLA three years and Basketball four years. Honors: Academic Letter three years, Honor roll three years, Football All-State First Team two 2012-2014, All-District First Team 2010-2014, All-State Honorable Mention 2010-2011, Lettered in football four years, Team Captain one year, Lettered in basketball four years, Team Captain one year, Prom server. Future Plans; Attend the University of Nebraska at Lincoln majoring in Business Management. Favorite LDNE Memory: Winnint the seniors firs playoff. It was a special moment because we work hard during the last four seasons and the off-seasons. It was a huge accomplishment that the hard work paid off.

Bobby Simpson, son of Jim and Wendy Simpson. Activities: Football four years, basketball four years, FBLA four years, Golf three years, Student Council four years and One Acts two years. Honors: Honor Roll two years, FBLA President, Class officer four years, Basketball captain two hers, Football captain one year, 2012-13 second team all-district football, 2013-14 honorable mention all-state basketball, four football letters, four basketball letters, three golf letters, Who’s Who award for FBLA, Most Worthy Member in FBLA, Honorable Mention for Public Service Announcement, Homecoming Court, Prom Server, Future Plans: Attend the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. Favorite LDNE Memory: Playing football with my teammates, especially our playoff game against Meridian giving us our first playoff win in a long time. We worked hard for it and it felt great getting that win for the team, coaches and community.

Brenna Taylor-Warren, daughter of Stephanie and Jimmy Taylor Warren. Activities: FFA for four years. Honors: Three letters in Choir. Future Plans: Attend the Iowa School of Beauty in Sioux City, IA. Favorite LDNE Memory: In the fourth grade when Decatur came over and joined with Lyons and the class came together.

Dakota Riecken, son of Lori and Bill Riecken. Activities: Football four years, basketball four years, FBLA two years, Golf one year, Student Council one year and One Acts one year. Honors: Academic Letter four years, Honor roll four years, Class Officer three years, National Honor Society, Academic All-State Football, Four letters in Football, Four letters in Basketball, Football Captain one year, Basketball Captain one year, All-District First Team in Football 2012-13. Third Team All-Conference Basketball 2014, Honorable Mention All-State Football 2012-13, Honorable Mention All-State Basketball 2013-14. Future Plans: Attend the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. Favorite LDNE memory: My junior year of football when we went to Osmond and upset the Tigers. It was the most exciting game I have ever played in and I will remember it for the rest of my life.

Devan Collins, son of Harold and Janelle Collins. Activities: Power Drive two years, One Acts one year, Student Council one year, Drama one year, St. Joseph’s Church CCD ten years, St. Joseph’s Church CYO two years. Honors: Honor Roll four years, Honor Society two years. Future Plans: Attend Wayne State College, major in Construction Management. Favorite LDNE Memory: Playing kick ball during eighth hour and Shane getting all fired up when he gets out.

Jesika Kramer, daughter of Mike Kramer and the late LeAnn Kramer. Activities: Golf one year, One Acts two years, Volleyball two years, Band four years and Choir four years. Future Plans: Attend Midland Lutheran University. Favorite LDNE Memory: A dance held at the Lyons Library for the whole class.

Vanessa Peterson, daughter of Grace and Lawrence Peterson. Activities: Volleyball four years, Basketball four years, Track four years, FFA four years, Music Appreciation one year, One Acts two years and Student Council one year. Honors: Honor Roll, National Honor Society, Volley ball two letters, Basketball three letters, Track four letters, Honorable Mention Basketball, S&W Welding player of the game three times for Basketball and two times for volleyball. Future Plans: Attend Northeast Community College for Associate’s Degree in Veterinary Technology then transfer to the University of Nebraska at Lincoln to earn Bachelor’s Degree. Favorite LDNE Memory: I am a small town girl and haven’t been out of Nebraska. In October, I was blessed with going to Kentucky for the 86th National FFA Convention. It was the experience of a lifetime.

Future Plans:
After completing high school at Lyons-Decatur Northeast, I plan to attend the University of Nebraska – Lincoln majoring in Biochemistry in the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources. Upon completion of my undergraduate studies, I will apply and obtain acceptance into medical school where I will specialize in the area of Orthopedics while pursuing a career as an Orthopedic Spine Surgeon.
Favorite Memory:
My favorite memories while attending Lyons-Decatur Northeast was playing softball at Wisner-Pilger, participating in the Borlaug-Ruan World Food Prize Youth Institute, and competing in many FFA events such as the National FFA Band, among others.

Haley Bacon, daughter of Jon and Shelly Bacon. Activities: Track one year, Cheer one year, FBLA three years, Volleyball four years, Basketball four years, FFA four years. Honors: Honor Roll, four years, Academic Letter four years, Three Basketball letters, Three Volleyball letters, One Track letter, One Cheer letter, Academic All-State for Volleyball and Basketball, National Honor Society. Future Plans: Attend northeast Community College majoring in Agronomy. Favorite LDNE Memory: Attending State FFA Convention all four years, National FFA Convention two years in Indianapolis, Indiana and Louisville, KY. It was an amazing experience.

Alexis Totten, daughter of Brenda and Dennis Totten. Activities: Band 4 years, Volleyball three years, Basketball two years, FFA three years, FBLA two years, One Acts three years and Dance Team four years. Honors: Homecoming Queen, One Basketball letter, Four Dance Team letters, State Qualifier FFA three years, State FFA Top Ten Individual Award one year, Bronze Merit Award in FFA one year, All Star Performer Award for Dance Team three years, Outstanding performer Award Dance Team two years, Outstanding makeup and choreographer for One Acts one year. Future Plans: Attend the University of Nebraska at Lincoln, major in Fashion Merchandising. Favorite LDNE Memory: Getting Second Place at State Dance during my sophomore year.

David Bishop, son of Steve Vetick. Activities: Football four years, Basketball four years, Track four years, FFA four years. Honors: FFA officer for one year and

Future Plans: Attend Northeast Community College, major building construction
Favorite LDNE Memory: This year’s football team. We worked very hard to get where we got this year and it is something I will never forget.

Sarah Alford, daughter of Linda and LeRoy Alford. Activities: FFA four years, Volleyball four years, Basketball one year, Track three years, band three years, Choir four years, Spring play three years, One Acts three years and Student Council one year. Honors: FFA Treasurer one year, Honor Roll four years, Band Wardrobe three years, Choir Wardrobe three years. Future Plans: Attend Northeast Community College majoring in Early Childhood Education. Favorite LDNE Memory: Having snack attacks for doing good in school. The whole school would gather in the old gym and enjoy snacks.

Shane McCulloch, son of Jeania and Chad McCulloch. Activities: Football two years, Student Council member. Future Plans: Working and living on my own.Favorite LDNE Memory: Playing football against Scribner-Snyder and we beat them 50-36. We were losing at halftime 22-14 and Bobby was hurt when he and Dakota collided. I took his spot at linebacker and we came out from halftime a different team and teamwork was phenomenal.

Taylor Fuston, son of Fae and Andrew Fuston. Activities: Football three years, Basketball four years, Track four years and FBLA two years. Honors: Second team all-district football, Three football letters, Two Basketball letters and four Track letters. Future Plans: Attend Northeast Community College for two years then transfer to the University of Nebraska at Lincoln or the University of Nebraska at Omaha. Favorite LDNE Memory: Going to State Track my Freshman year.

McKinna Gatewood, daughter of Cheryl and Brad Gatewood. Activities: FBLA and One Acts four years, Student Council one year. Honors: Honor Roll. Future Plans: Attend the College of Hair Design in Lincoln. Favorite LDNE Memory: Mr. Timm’s Entomology/Science Inquiry. We drank coffee and eating breakfast. Mr. Timm referred to us at the Breakfast Club.

Oakland Police Officer Ed Hollander has resigned from the Oakland Police Department. He is leaving the community to take a job in Alliance with the railroad. The City of Oakland is honoring his service to the Oakland Police Department with a farewell coffee Friday, May 9th at 4:00 p.m. at the Rosen Room in the Oakland City Auditorium. Everyone is invited to attend to thank Ed for his service to Oakland and wish him well at his new job!
