Fremont 4-H Fair Results


The annual nine county Fremont 4-H Fair was held last week at Christensen Field in Fremont. Many Burt County 4-H members took part in a wide variety of 4-H events and contests.

The horse show started off the Fremont Fair on Wednesday, July 9. Reese Hansen of Herman was Burt County’s only representative, but she did more than hold her own as she won the bronze medal in Junior Showmanship, was Champion in Western Pony Pleasure and received a blue in Junior Western Horsemanship.

On Thursday, Casey Stone of Tekamah took part in the Dog Show with Bailey, her Australian Shepherd. They earned a purple ribbon in Intermediate Showmanship, grand champion in the senior division of Beginning Novice B and received a blue in Advanced Agility.

The sheep show started off Friday morning with the Breeding Ewe Show. Britney Stevenson of Oakland received a purple in the AOB (Any Other Breed) Class, in the Dorset class Brent Miller of Lyons received a purple while in the commercial breeding class Rylee Stevenson of Oakland received a blue and Layne Miller of Lyons received a red. Brent Miller came home with Champion honors in the breeding ewe show.

The Meat Goat Show followed the Sheep Show with Abigail and Vanessa Peterson of West Point both showing blue ribbon goats.

In the 4-H Rabbit Show Cody Bachtell was the only Burt County exhibitor. He received a blue ribbon in intermediate showmanship. His three Lion Head rabbits earned two purple ribbons including best purple and a blue ribbon. He also showed a mini lop receiving a blue ribbon. In the commercial breed show Cody showed his Flemish Giant receiving a purple ribbon.

In the Insect ID and Horticulture ID Contests Elise Anderson of Lyons received a purple ribbons and gold medals in the junior division of both contests.

 

The Hog Show was the final competition of the Fremont 4-H Fair.

Heidi Miller of Lyons reigned over much of the fair as the 2013 Fremont Fair Queen until the new royalty was crowned at a community luncheon on Friday.

Caregiver Support Group


The monthly Caregiver Support Group will meet at the Bancroft Senior Center, this coming Monday, July 21 at 2:00 p.m. The meetings are very informal; various topics are discussed and those who attend are encouraged to share their ups and downs of being a caregiver. The information that is shared by those in attendance is kept confidential. If you are a caregiver and have never attended a meeting, please feel free to come and join us.

* The senior center provides Information and Assistance to any individual who is looking for services for themselves or another person 60 years and older, the center manager and/or center participant can provide information to individuals on services available within the community. We link individuals to the services and opportunities that are available within or beyond the community itself. We will then establish adequate follow-up procedures to see that their needs were met. * We have the following medical equipment to loan out on an as need basis, wheel chair, bath seats, toilet seat riser and portable toilet chair, crutches or walkers. Call 402-648-3387 during office hours.

 

Meals on Wheels

Would you like to get Meals on Wheels? Anyone over the age of 60 years and lives within the city limits are eligible for these meals. You may sign up anytime for the Meals on Wheels program; you can get the meals delivered however many times you want them each week. You must call 402-687-2332 before 8:30 a.m. if you want a meal that day. The suggested donation for the meals is $4.00.

 

 

 

Weekly Activities:

Wed. July 16: Melody chimers practice at 9:00. There will be a pitch tournament at 1:30. The picnic supper will be held at 6:30 (meal will be furnished) and the Clarkson Community Polka Band will start playing around 7:00 p.m.

Thurs. July17: Tai Chi class at 9:30 and the walking ex. class at 10:30. Stop in for coffee at 10:00. Come and play the card game of Golf at 1:30.

Fri. July 18: Join us for chair exercises at 10:00. The monthly birthday party will start at 1:30.

Mon. July 21: The caregiver support group meeting begins at 2:00; all caregivers are welcome to these meetings.

Tues. July 22: Tai Chi class at 9:30 and the walking ex. class at 10:30. Stop in for coffee at 10:00. Sign up for the fried chicken dinner. Blood pressures taken at 11:45. Cards will be played after the dishes are done.

Wed. July 23: Melody chimes practice at 9:00. There will be a pitch tournament at 1:30.

 

 

Helen Louise Clifford, 92 of Fremont NE Formerly of Uehling NE


HELEN LOUISE CLIFFORD, 92 years, of Fremont, Nebraska, formerly of Uehling, Nebraska, passed away Friday, July 11, 2014, at A.J. Merrick Manor in Fremont.

Helen was born September 25, 1921, in Octavia, Nebraska to William and Carolyn (Strate) Woodrich.

On June 13, 1938, Helen married Otto A. McDonald in Pender, Nebraska. To this union three daughters were born, Carol Ann, Ellen Louise and Jo Jean Sharon. Otto passed away June 13, 1951. Helen married Raymond “Stub” Clifford on February 16, 1952, in Omaha, Nebraska, to this union a daughter, Donna Rae, was born.

Helen was a member of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Tekamah. She was a homemaker, gardener and great cook.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Otto McDonald and Raymond Clifford; brother, William “Bill” Woodrich; sisters, Alice Kiser and Ann Wachtler.

Survivors include her daughters, Carol Mines (Fiancé, Lyle Koneig)of Beatrice, NE, Ellen (Gene) Rogers of Omaha, NE,  Jeanie Lydick of Bennington, NE, Donna (Ron) Snover of Lincoln; nine grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren.

Lynn Joseph Johnson, 68 of Walthill NE


Lynn Joseph Johnson, 66 of Walthill, Nebraska passed away Wednesday, July 9, 2014 at his home surrounded by his family. Memorial services will be held Monday, July 14, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at the Rosalie Town Hall in Rosalie, NE; with Pastor Paul Malcomson officiating. Memorials may be directed to the family for future designation. Arrangements are under the direction of Munderloh – Smith Funeral Home in Pender, NE.

Lynn was born March 21, 1948, in Sioux City, IA to Helen Johnson. He graduated from Winnebago High School. From there he was drafted in to the U.S. Army and served one year in Vietnam.

On March 26, 1982 Lynn married Desiree Walker. They were together for 33 years. Lynn had many jobs over the years: serving as a police officer, quality control personnel, and teaching industrial arts. Lynn loved being outside, riding his Harley, spending time with his grandchildren and taking care of all his animals.

Lynn is survived by his wife Desiree, his two sons, Jason and Aaron Johnson, 2 step daughters, Donna Young and Diona Doenhoefer, two adopted daughters, Ginny and Gail. Numerous grandchildren, a brother Steve Moore and a sister, Cheryl Torres.

Lynn is preceded in death by his mother, Helen and a brother James Moore.

Deloy “Gil” Gerald Gilster, 78 of Allen TX


Deloy “Gil” Gerald Gilster, 76, of Allen, Texas, passed away Friday, July 11, 2014 surrounded by his family at his home in Allen, TX from pancreatic cancer. A Memorial service for Deloy will be held Sunday, July 13, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. at Christ the Servant Lutheran Church in Allen, TX; with Pastor Gordon Illausky officiating. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 16, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Pender, NE; with Pastor Gordon Illausky and Pastor Miles Ruch officiating. Visitation will be held Tuesday, July 15, 2014 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Munderloh – Smith Funeral Home in Pender, NE. Burial with military honors will be in the Bancroft Cemetery in Bancroft, NE. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to the Ronald McDonald House. Arrangements are under the direction of Munderloh – Smith Funeral Home in Pender, NE.

Deloy was born on April 1, 1938 in Lyons, NE to his parents Gerald and Delores Gilster. He married Karen Bargmann on October 1, 1961. Together they had three children.

After he graduated from Rosalie High School, in 1956, he entered the U.S. Navy where he served for four years as an air traffic controller. Upon return he spent 50 years as a salesman for Central Soya, ConAgra, ADM, and many others. In addition, he found time to run three businesses, referee countless football, basketball, baseball, and softball games at both the high school and college level. Anyone who knew him was aware of his love for the Cornhuskers. He attended over 300 of their football games in Lincoln and elsewhere. He also enjoyed his charity work for National Kidney Foundation, Ronald McDonald House and fundraising for church organizations.

Deloy is survived by wife Karen, Allen, TX, sons Steve and wife Rhonda of Allen, TX, Bryce and wife Tammy of Norwalk, IA, daughter LaRee and husband Dan of Johnston, IA, his mother Delores Hunt of Emerson, NE, brother Larry and wife Diane of Farmersville, TX, sister-in-law’s Ruthann Bargmann, Bancroft, NE, and Sherri Bruns and husband Ron, Pender, NE, and his six grandchildren: Zachary, Jessica, Alexandra, Joseph, Rachel, and Anna along with many nieces and nephews.

Deloy is preceded in death by his father, Gerald and granddaughter Abigail Gilster.
