* The senior center provides Information and Assistance to any individual who is looking for services for themselves or another person 60 years and older, the center manager and/or center participant can provide information to individuals on services available within the community. We link individuals to the services and opportunities that are available within or beyond the community itself. We will then establish adequate follow-up procedures to see that their needs were met. * We have the following medical equipment to loan out on an as need basis, wheel chair, bath seats, toilet seat riser and portable toilet chair, crutches or walker. Call 402-648-3387 during office hours.

 

Meals on Wheels

The Meals on Wheels program started in Bancroft February 10th. Anyone over the age of 60 years and lives within the city limits are eligible for these meals. You may sign up anytime for the Meals on Wheels program; you can get the meals delivered however many times you want them each week. You must call 402-687-2332 before 8:45 if you want a meal that day.

We need more volunteers willing to deliver the meals once they get to the senior center in Bancroft. Contact the senior contact 402-648-3387 if you wish to help deliver the meals, want a meal delivered or have a question.

Weekly Activities:

Wed. March 12: Melody chimers will practice at 9:30. Join us for coffee anytime during the day. We will play bingo at 2:00.

Thurs.: March 13:  Tai Chi class at 9:30 and the walking ex. class at 10:30. Stop in for coffee at 10:00. You pick the card game you would like to play today. You are welcome to come and work on the jig saw puzzle.

Fri. March 14: Senator Lydia Brasch will hold her town hall meeting at the senior center from 10:00 – 1:30 p.m. Call in and make a reservation for the noon meal, serving scalloped potatoes with ham, California blend vegetables, salad and dessert. There will be a pinochle tournament at 1:45.

Mon. March 17: The caregiver support group will meet at 2:00 p.m. If you are a caregiver provider you are invited to come to this meeting.  Our pancake and waffle supper will be served from 5:30 – 6:45 p.m. The card party will be at 7:00 p.m.

Tues. March 18: Tai Chi class at 9:30 and the walking ex. class at 10:00.  Sign up to play in the pitch tournament at 1:30.

Wed. March 19: Melody chimers will practice at 9:00 a.m.  Sign up to play in the 5-handed pinochle tournament.

Fri. March 7: There will be a pinochle tournament at 1:30. St. Joseph’s Retirement Community will bring a snack for coffee time at 3:15.

Mon. March 10: There will be a pitch tournament at 1:30. You are welcome to work on the jigsaw puzzle any time the center is open.

Tues. March 11: Play pool at 9:30. Tai Chi class at 9:30 and the walking ex. class at 10:00.  Learn to play the card game called golf at 1:30.

Wed. March 12: Melody chimes will practice at 9:00 a.m.  Stop in and have a cup of coffee with us. We will play bingo at 2:00.

Sat. March 1:  Come to the music jam at 7:00 to enjoy the entertainers perform; bring some finger foods for lunch.

Mon. March 3: Bring a covered dish and enjoy the potluck noon meal with your friends. After the dishes are done we will play cards. Work on the jigsaw puzzle.

Tues. March 4: Play pool at 9:30. Tai Chi class at 9:30 and the walking ex. class at 10:00.  Sign up for the pitch tournament at 1:30. Work on the jigsaw puzzle

Mon. Feb. 17: The caregiver support group meets at 2:00. Luella Petersen will give a presentation about  “Hands”.

Tues. Feb.18: Play pool at 9:30. Tai Chi class at 9:30 and the walking ex. class at 10:00. Sign up for the pitch tournament at 1:30. We will serve an evening meal: pancakes and French toast, eggs, sausage, juice and coffee from 5:30 – 6:45. You are welcome to stay and play pitch at 7:00 p.m.

Meals on Wheels

The village board and the Bancroft Senior Center have been working together to provide Meals on Wheels for the residents that live within the city limits. You must be 60 years and older. The meals will be prepared by the Lyons Happy Days Senior Center and the suggested donation is $4 per meal. There needs to be at least 7 or 8 people who will take the meals Tuesday through Friday every week. We have a driver for 4 days of the week but not on Mondays. If you are interested in having Meals on Wheels contact the senior center at 402-648-3387 by January 30. Our goal is to get this program implemented by February 10th. We also need volunteers to deliver the meals once they get to Bancroft. Contact the senior center if you have any question.

Just a reminder that the Bancroft Senior Center will hold their Annual Public Hearing on Friday, January 17, 2014 at 1:30 pm. This meeting will allow the public an opportunity to give their input on senior center operations, along with any new programs, ideas, and activities they would like to see implemented at the senior center. This is for fiscal year July 2014 through June 2015. This meeting is open to the public.

Fri. Dec. 27: Sign up for the pinochle tournament at 1:30.  Have you signed up for the next hot meal?

Mon. Dec. 30: Stop in for a cup of coffee. The noon meal will be creamed turkey over biscuits or potatoes, veggie, fruit, cookie or cake. Cards will be played at 1:30.

Tues. Dec 31: Pool at 9:30. The walking ex. class is at 10:00, there is room for more people to join the class. Come and play any card or board game you would like at 1:30.

Wed. Jan. 1, 2014: The center is closed. Happy New Year Everyone!
