Battle Creek Hands Oakland-Craig First Loss of Season

Battle Creek easily handled the Oakland-Craig Knights last Friday in Oakland, downing the Knights 41-12.

“As a team we were disappointed with the way we played. We knew is was going to take a great effort on our part to beat a team like Battle Creek, stated O-C Head Coach Joe Anderson. “They are a big physical team that wore us down as the game went on.”

Battle Creek held Oakland-Craig to 226 yards in total offense, while they racked up 500 yards. Defensively, Connor Thiele lead the way with eight tackles, followed by Cole Mitchell and Hos Smith with five each.

“This week we have to get back to the basics and really improve on our techniques and fundamentals. I  felt we were very sloppy in many of those areas.” said Coach Anderson. “This was only one game and our team goals are very much still intact, but it is very important that we learn from this game and make the corrections so we can continue to improve.

The Knights are on the road this Friday, looking to add another win to their record against the Tekamah-Herman Tigers. Kick-off is at 7:00 p.m. Go Knights!!

Oakland-Craig Downs Fremont Bergan in Season Opener

The Oakland-Craig Knights came back from a 6-0 half-time score to defeat Fremont Bergan 22-6

“We did not play as discipline as we would have liked, but you have to like the end result. It was a great team win,” stated Joe Anderson, Oakland-Craig Head Football Coach. “We had way too many penalties and turnovers, but solid defense really allowed us to overcome those mental mistakes.  I thought we played very physical on the defensive side of the ball.”

Leading the way defensively was Hos Smith with 12 tackles followed by Connor Thiele with seven. Tommy Nelson had six tackles and one fumble recovery.

The offense struggled, but managed to get the job done.

“Offensively we had a lot of opportunities but failed to cash in on many of them. However, I like the way our kids stayed focused and stuck with the game plan,” said Anderson. “We were able to wear Bergan down a little bit in the 4th quarter and got our running game going and put it away.”

The first game of the season shows where the Knights excel and the areas that need more work to become a better, stronger team.

“This game really showed some of the things that we need to improve on.

We will play a very physical and discipline Battle Creek team who is rated in the top 4 so we have to make sure we have a great week of practice this week,” stated Anderson.

The Knights take on Battle Creek tomorrow night at 7:00 p.m. Come and show your support and cheer on the Knights to victory!
