Dean C. Salmon, 84, of Wakefield, NE, passed away Tuesday, July 26, 2016 at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, IA. Funeral services are Saturday, July 30, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at Salem Lutheran Church in Wakefield; Pastor Barbara Hansen will be officiating. The visitation will be Friday, July 29, 2016 at Salem Lutheran Church from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Burial with military honors will be in the Wakefield Cemetery. Dean was born May 8, 1932 in Concord, NE to Frederick and Helena (Mecke), being 1 of 15 children. He graduated from Concord High School in 1950. After graduating, he was drafted into the United States Army where he served 16 months from 1953 until 1954 with the 933rd Artillery Company in Incheon Korea. Upon returning, he married Phyllis Johnson at Concordia Lutheran Church in Concord on June 23, 1957 and the couple had two children.

Dean worked for Salmon Well Company from 1950 until 2006, which was founded by his father and uncle in 1914. He was a member of Salem Lutheran Church, the American Legion, and was a fireman from 1963 to 1986, then becoming an honorary fireman. Dean enjoyed fishing, woodworking, mowing the lawn, and attending morning and afternoon coffee. Most of all, he loved spending time with his grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Salmon of Wakefield, NE; son, Bennett (Kathleen) Salmon of Wakefield, NE; daughter, LeAnn Miner of Wakefield, NE; sisters, Mae Schwarten of Wakefield, NE, Mary Ann Garvin of Dixon, NE; brother, Kenneth (Phyllis) Salmon of Wakefield, NE, 5 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren.

Dean was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Shad Miner; son-in-law, Vernie Miner; and siblings, Frederick W. Salmon, Allen Salmon, Ilene Andersen, Irene Manto, Helen Hattig, Leo Salmon, Harold Salmon, Elmer Salmon, Lucille Taylor, Caroline Gordon, and Leonard Salmon.

Imogene Mary Burhoop was born on July 2, 1932 in Pender, NE, the daughter of Walter and Nelda (Korth) Burhoop. She was baptized on August 14, 1932 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Wakefield and later confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Bancroft, NE. She attended country schools west of Thurston, NE, south of Emerson, NE and North of Bancroft, NE before graduating from Bancroft High School in 1949. She lived north of Bancroft until she married Arvid “Sonny” Samuelson, Jr. on January 4, 1952 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Bancroft. To this union three sons were born; Douglas, Brian, and Galen.

Imogene taught Sunday School at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Bancroft, Vacation Bible School at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church near Wakefield, and Week Day class for many years at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Wakefield, where she was an active member of the Ladies Aid. She enjoyed crocheting and decorating cakes for her family. Most of all she enjoyed her grandchildren.

She is survived by her son Galen (Amy) Samuelson of Wakefield, NE, five grandchildren; Eric (Brandy) Samuelson, Casey Samuelson, Brianna, Caleb and Dawson Samuelson; five great grandchildren; Taylor, Ethan, Kaylee, Caden, and Elynn. Imogene is also survived by her brother David (Judy) Burhoop, sister-in-law Marilyn Burhoop, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Imogene was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Arvid, sons Brian and Douglas Samuelson, and a brother Walter Dale Burhoop.

Joyce French, 88, of Bellevue, Idaho, formerly of Wayne, Nebraska died at her home on Friday, February 26, 2016. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, March 6, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at the Bressler – Munderloh – Smith Funeral Home in Wakefield with Pastor Carol Jean Stapleton officiating. The visitation will be held on Saturday, March 5, 2016 from 3:00 until 5:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Eastview Cemetery near Allen, Nebraska. Bressler – Munderloh – Smith Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Joyce French was born December 19, 1927 to Pearce and Hattie Vande Brake in Orange City, IA. She spent her childhood on a farm outside Maurice, IA. After graduation, Joyce attended a business school and became a bookkeeper. She met and married Marlen French in 1952 and started a long career as a farmwife outside Waterbury, NE. During this time, she raised 6 children, kept a huge garden and helped raise all types of animals to feed her family throughout the year. She enjoyed traveling to visit family and friends, bird watching, quilting, knitting, sewing and gardening.

Joyce died peacefully in her sleep on February 26 outside of Bellevue, ID where she spent the last 15 months being cared for by family. She always had a cat on her lap, a dog by her side, and horses running by outside. The highlight of her day was when she would go out to eat with family. Eggplant Parmesan was her favorite.

Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, Marlen and son, Kevin and sister Shirley Reilly.

She is survived by sons Gene (Gayle) French of Panama, NE, Randy (Lynne) French of Bellevue, ID, Duane (Jody) French of Sioux City, IA; daughters Barbara Haru of Bellevue, ID and Renea (Chuck Olsen) French of Wynot, NE; 6 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.
