Marilyn I. Gilliland Bruce, 78, of Kennard NE


Marilyn I. Bruce age 78 of Kennard, passed away December 28, 2017 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Community in Blair. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, January 3, 2018 at 10:30 AM at Grace United Methodist Church in Kennard. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be held at the Tekamah Cemetery at 2:00 PM. Campbell Aman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Marilyn was born on May 1, 1939 in rural Tekamah, the daughter of Howard and Dora Gilliland. She grew up in the Tekamah area and attended Tekamah schools. She worked at D.L. Blair for many years, retiring in 2007.

She is survived by her children: Vince (Marissa) Bruce of Tekamah and Scott Bruce of Tekamah; six grandchildren; sisters: Janet Riddle of Lyons and Edith Muller of Bancroft; companion Charlie Dornacker of Kennard, many friends and extended family.

She was preceded in death by her parents and son Calvin Bruce.

Charlotte J. Rasmussen, age 79 of Herman died October 20, 2015 at the Fremont Area Medical Center. Memorial services will be held Friday, October 23, 2015 at First United Methodist Church of Blair at 2:00 PM. Burial will follow the services in the Blair Cemetery.

Charlotte J. Rasmussen was born July 1, 1936 in Omaha, Nebraska the daughter of Elmer Dale and Nancy Alice (West) Grothe. She was raised on a farm between Herman and Tekamah, and attended Homestead District 12, a one room school house. She then went on to graduate from Herman High School in 1954. Following graduation Charlotte attended Wayne State Teachers College. She then began teaching at Spiker School for two years. On May 20th, 1956 she was united in marriage to Robert Rasmussen at First Lutheran Church of Blair. The couple made their home on the family homestead in the Spiker area. Charlotte was involved with the Avon Company as a sales representative for 45 years. She was the top seller in Nebraska for several years earning awards and trips all over the United States. Charlotte was known for her love of baking and enjoyed her family and friends to the fullest. Charlotte treated everyone that entered her home as family.

She is survived by her husband of 59 years Robert J. Rasmussen; children, Randall and wife Lark Rasmussen of Herman, Rick and wife Kim Rasmussen of Herman, Penny and husband Don Reifenrath of Wynot, Nebraska; 12 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, and two brothers, Jim and wife Judy Grothe of Tekamah, and Chuck and wife Althea Grothe of O’Fallon, Missouri; several nieces and nephews and countless friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and daughter-in-law Debra Rasmussen.

Memorials may be directed to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation: Omaha/Council Bluffs Chapter, and the Herman Rescue Squad.

John W. Shamburg, 79, of Herman NE


John W. Shamburg, age 79, of Herman, Nebraska passed away October 4, 2015 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Community in Blair. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, October 7, 2015 at 10 a.m. at The Herman Community Church in Herman. Visitation will be held Tuesday, October 6th from 6 to 8 p.m. at Campbell Aman Funeral Home in Blair. Campbell Aman Funeral Home in Blair is in charge of arrangements.

John W. Shamburg was born on June 23, 1936 in Tekamah, Nebraska to Waldo and Jessie (Skinner) Shamburg. As a young child he enjoyed traveling with his father as he worked all over the country. When he was six the family moved to a farm near Herman. He was very active showing sheep and cattle and showed at the state fair for over 50 years. He attended 4-H club Congress in 1954 in Chicago. He attended Herman High School and graduated with the class of 1955. After high school he worked shearing sheep in a three county area. In 1962 he was an IFYE (International Farm Youth Exchange) and was an exchange student in Peru. He was a partner in the family dairy farm. In 1976 he married Janet Clark in Enon Valley, Pennsylvania. He served as a 4-H leader for over 40 years. He enjoyed attending IFYE conferences throughout the United States. He also enjoyed history, especially local and family history, and visiting with people.

He is survived by son Dan Shamburg of Tekamah, daughter Sara Koelling and husband Shawn of Ord, brother Bill Shamburg of Herman, and 6 grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, and sister-in-law Alice Shamburg.
