DARREL LEE DRUHE was born June 20, 1947, in Oakland, Nebraska, to Donald and Mary Lou (Weeces) Druhe. He passed away at his home in Craig, Nebraska, at the age of 67 years.

Darrell graduated from Craig High School in 1965.

Darrell owned Woodcraft Cabinet Shop in Omaha for many years and was an expert craftsman. He also worked construction and was a truck driver. Darrel spent many years drag racing at Flightland Raceway in Omaha and Thunder Valley Speedway in Marian South Dakota. He spent many enjoyable hours at Roger’s Pumpkin Patch and Rog & Sue’s Retreat in Craig.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his two sisters, Linda Wickstrom, Kristie (Tom) Jensen all of Craig; brother-in-law, Marvin Wickstrom of Tekamah, NE; nephews and nieces, Brian (Linda) Wickstrom of Omaha, Michelle (Mitch) Case of Oakland, Dylan Jensen of Uehling, Hannah Jensen of Craig; great nephews and –nieces, Mason and Regan Wickstrom of Omaha and Braeden & Kyler Case of Oakland.

A private family service will be held at a later date.

Donald Lee “Donnie” Modlin, 57 of Craig NE


DONALD LEE “DONNIE” MODLIN, 57 years, of Craig, Nebraska, passed away Monday, September 8, 2014, at St. Rita’s Medical Center in Lima, Ohio, after and unexpected illness.

Donnie was born March 1, 1957, in O’Neill, Nebraska, the son of William “Bill” and Doris (Lindberg) Modlin. He graduated from Oakland Craig High School in 1975.  Donnie served in the U. S. Navy from 1976 to 1979 and was stationed in San Diego California and Cleveland, Ohio.

On May 17, 1985, Donnie married Judy G. Tomasek of Garrettsville, Ohio.

Donnie owned and operated Best Mesquite Smoked Meats in Tucson, Arizona, before returning to Craig in June 1987 and was employed by Gustafson Plumbing. During this time he served his community as a volunteer firefighter and emergency medical technician (EMT). He began his career with DTZ in 2001 and was promoted to Quantitative PM Planner, a new cutting edge position, during which time he developed PM Programs that continue to be used at multiple Cargill facilities and business units today. He then assumed the role of project crew manager and most recently continued in this role as well as served in a support role for facilities in Dalhart and Bovina, Texas and Spiritwood, ND.

One of Donnie’s loves was cooking. He and his family also owned and operated “The Library” in Craig for 13 years. In addition to his love of cooking, he enjoyed golf, car racing, motorcycles, fishing, the outdoors, Husker football and spending time with family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents; father, Bill; brother, Charles Modlin; sister-in-law, Geri-Ann Dietz; great niece, Sierra Wilcox; and many aunts and uncles.

Survivors include his wife, Judy of Craig; three children and their families including two grandchildren, Brandon (Alyssia) Modlin and their children, Hayden and Brooklyn of Bancroft, NE, Jordon (Sachia) Modlin of Craig and LaDona Modlin of Craig; mother, Doris Modlin of Craig; sisters and brothers, Lorri (Don) Steffen of Sunrise Beach, MO, Kim Ford of Thorsby, AL, Janice (Keith) Magill of Tekamah, NE, Cyns (Mike) Johnson of Oakland, NE, Mark (Sylvia) Johnson of Tekamah, NE, Jeff (Marcie) Johnson of Lincoln, NE; brothers-in-law, Dale (Jennifer) Tomasek of Hiram, OH; Henry Dietz of Cary, NC; 13 nephews; 10 nieces; 17 great nephews; 10 great nieces; an aunt, Betty Modlin of Fremont, NE; and several cousins.

FUNERAL SERVICE: Monday, September 15, 2014, 2:00 p.m. at the Craig Community Center, Craig, Nebraska.

VISITATION: Monday one hour prior to the service

Duane Lavere Bauers, 82 of Craig NE


DUANE LAVERE BAUERS, 82 years of Craig, Nebraska, passed away Tuesday, August 5, 2014, at his home in Craig.

Duane was born May 12, 1932, at Crab Orchard, Nebraska to Fred E. and Nora W. (Wilken) Bauers. Duane spent much of his childhood living in Falls City, Nebraska.

On December 1, 1950, at the age of 18, Duane joined the U.S. Navy during the Korean War and was honorably discharged in October 1954.  He then resided in Los Angeles, California, for about thirty years. Duane married Jacqueline Rankin in 1955. They had two children, Michael and Kathleen. Jackie preceded him in death.

Duane was employed as a semi-truck driver by United Parcel Service for 25 years, retiring in 1985. He returned to Nebraska in 2002, living in Craig since 2004.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Burdette, Alger, Lyle and Darl Bauers; sisters, Natalie and Donnabell; wife, Jackie.

He is survived by wife, Paula; brother, L. L. Bauers of Washington; son, Michael (Jackie) Bauers of Rancho Cucamonga, CA; daughter, Kathi (Jack) Burgoyne of Irvine, CA; four grandchildren, Sean Bauers, Sarah Faucher, Brent Burgoyne, Blaine Burgoyne and six great grandchildren, Carson, Caitlyn, Landon, Gavin, Brycen and Clayton.

MEMORIAL SERVICE: Saturday, August 9, 2014, 2:00 p.m. at Pelan Funeral Services Oakland

BURIAL: Oakland Cemetery with Military Honors by Ryan VFW Post No. 5543 and American Legion Post No. 46.
