Doak Wegner age 58 of West Point, Nebraska formerly of Bancroft, Nebraska passed away on Tuesday, March 10, 2015 at the Pender Community Hospital. Funeral services will be on Monday, March 16, 2015 at 2 p.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church, rural Bancroft, NE. Interment will be in the Bancroft Cemetery. Visitation will be held Sunday from 3 to 8 p.m. at the Minnick Funeral Home in West Point and will continue on Monday from noon to 2 p.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers, it is suggested to direct memorials to the family for future designation. On Monday the service will be broadcast to the school to accommodate additional seating. Minnick Funeral Home in West Point, Nebraska is in charge of arrangements.
Doak Leon Wegner was born on December 6, 1956 at Oakland, NE to Lester and Eva June (Block) Wegner. He was baptized at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Bancroft, NE and was confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church rural Bancroft, NE. Doak attended Zion Lutheran Parochial School and graduated from Bancroft High School in 1975. On July 1, 1978, he was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart Patty Larsen at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Bancroft, NE. The couple farmed near Bancroft and in 2000 moved into Bancroft. In June 2014, they moved to West Point, NE.
Doak was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church rural Bancroft, serving as elder, was head usher and on the Zion Lutheran School board. Doak Played for the West Point Bombers baseball team from 1979 to 1992, coached Zion basketball, junior high basketball at Bancroft-Rosalie. He served on the Bancroft Baseball Board and was a longtime coach for Little League Baseball in Bancroft and also coached the NE All-Stars from 1992 to 2006. Doak ran the clock at the football and basketball games at Bancroft-Rosalie, kept book for Pender American Legion games and also drove the activity bus for Bancroft-Rosalie High School.
Doak enjoyed taking trips with his family, was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan, and especially enjoyed being “Papa” to his grandkids.

Scott and Kathy Wegner of Bennington, NE
Parents-in-law- Robert and Myra Larsen of Blair, NE
Sister-in-law-Brenda and Tim Nelson of Johnson Lake, NE
Brother-in-law-Robbie and Kim Larsen of Bennington, NE
Several nieces and nephews also survive him.
Doak was preceded in death by his mother-Eva June Wegner, and a sister-in-law-Terri Larsen.
