Peter O. Schmidt, 81 years, of Oakland, Nebraska passed away Thursday, January 28, 2016 at Nebraska Methodist Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska.

Visitation will be held on Sun., Jan. 31st from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at Pelan Funeral Services in Oakland NE. The family will be receiving friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to service at the church.

The Funeral Service will be held Mon., Feb. 1st at 11:00 a.m. at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Oakland NE.

Gerald William “Pugs” Larson, 88, of Uehling NE


GERALD WILLIAM “PUGS” LARSON, 88 years of Uehling, Nebraska, passed away Saturday, November 22, 2014, at the Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska, surrounded by his family.

Gerald was born August 26, 1926, at home in rural Craig, Nebraska, to Harry C. and Helen E. (Koehler) Larson. He was baptized and confirmed at Elim Lutheran Church of Swaburg, rural Hooper, Nebraska.

Gerald graduated from Uehling High School in 1943. In 1954, he married the love of his life, Donna Rickert at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Oakland.

Gerald loved his family and friends dearly. He never met a stranger. He loved farming, sports and traveling, but there was no place like home. He enjoyed small town life.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Harry Jr.

Survivors include his wife, Donna; daughters and sons-in-law, Joan and Dave Bixler of Minnetonka, MN, Cindy and Dan Christensen of Austin, TX; sisters, Mary (Emery) Johnson, Margie Davis both of Fremont, NE, Mable (Rodney) Nelson of Sidney, NE; brother, Richard Larson of Uehling; four grandchildren, Peter (Pam) Christensen, Carrie (Ryan) Jackson, Trent (Corrinne) Grover, Amber (Mike) Trapp; eight great grandchildren, Tanner, Cameron and Ava Jackson, Hannah and Emma Christensen, Cillian and Malcolm Grover, Griffin Trapp.

FUNERAL SERVICE: Wednesday, November 26, 2014, 11:00 a.m. at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Oakland.

VISITATION: Tuesday 6 – 8 p.m. with the family receiving friends at Pelan Funeral Home in Oakland. Visitation Wednesday will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.

Eugene “Gene” Johnson, 65, of West Point NE


EUGENE “GENE” JOHNSON, 65 years, of West Point, Nebraska, passed away Saturday, August 30, 2014, at West Point Living Center in West Point.

Gene was born September 3, 1948, in Oakland, Nebraska, to Lynder and LaMae (Jacobson) Johnson. He attended Cuming County District No. 14 rural school and graduated from Oakland High School in 1966.

Gene then served in the U.S. Marie Corps from 1967 until his honorable discharge in 1969. He returned to school, graduating from Southeast Community College at Milford in 1970.

On April 3, 1970, Gene and Carole Anderson were united in marriage at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Oakland. They had three children, Clint, Eric and Rachel.

Gene worked in Lincoln for Bryant Heating and Air for thirteen years before returning to his family farm in Cuming County in 1984.
Gene was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Oakland, where he served on the church council.

He was preceded in death by his father, Lynder; father-in-law, Harold Anderson; sister- and brother-in-law, Barbara and Frank Furneisen; nephew, Scott Wright.

Survivors include his wife, Carole of West Point and his three children and nine grandchildren, sons and daughters-in-law, Clint and Erin Johnson and their  four children, Nick, Megan, Preston and Kallie of Ft. Calhoun, NE, Eric and Mindy Johnson and their two  children, Camryn and Gavin of Lincoln, NE of Lincoln, NE, daughter, Rachel and Adam Petersen and their three children, Britton, Evan and Joel of Lincoln, NE; his mother, LaMae Johnson of Oakland, mother-in-law, Doris Anderson of Oakland; sister, Merna and Arlyn Pierce of West Point, Nebraska; many nieces and nephews, other family and a host of friends.

Nancy Lee (Rickert) Wallerstedt, 78 of Oakland, NE


NANCY LEE (RICKERT) WALLERSTEDT was born June 11, 1936, at home in Decatur, Nebraska, to Elmer and Mattie (Andersen) Rickert. She passed away peacefully in the comfort of her home in rural Oakland on Wednesday, July 9, 2014, at the age of 78 years.

Nancy graduated from Oakland High School in 1953. In 1954, she married the love of her life, Norman Wallerstedt, at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Oakland, where she was also baptized and confirmed.

Nancy loved her Lord and loved serving her church. She was a member of First Lutheran’s women’s organization for 57 years, served on the Altar Committee many years and was a member of Koinonia Bible Study.  As a member of the Junior Women’s Club for 23 years, she served in all offices and was selected as Outstanding Club Woman of the Year in 1974. Nancy also worked on the Oakland Community Improvement Committee and Swedish Festival. She was a member of the Scandinavian Folk Dancers and promoted Oakland’s Swedish heritage at many events, including Governor Ben Nelson’s   inauguration. Her love of dancing also led to 20 years with the Swingaways Square Dance Club. Nancy was a 10-year member of the Burt County Extension Club, a member of Oakland Mercy Hospital Auxiliary, serving in various offices and served on the Bell Creek Township election board for many years.

Nancy loved her family dearly. She enjoyed birds, her pets, flowers and gardens and especially loved mowing her yard. Highest on her list, though, was working alongside Norman on the farm. Whether they were walking beans, tending gardens, decorating their home or putting up Christmas lights, everything was made more beautiful when Nancy touched it. Her family reaped the benefits of that care and creativity every time they were with her.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Denise Blair; infant sister, Betty and her parents.

Survivors include her husband, Norman of Oakland; son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Terry of Oakland; sisters, Donna (Gerald) Larson of Uehling, NE; Deb (Jon) Radebaugh of Omaha, NE;  eight grandchildren:  Jeff Blair, Lauren Blair, Whitney (Joe) Julian, Josh (Sara) Wallerstedt, Kelsey (Josh) Gillman, Kiersten Wallerstedt, James Wallerstedt and  Jesse Wallerstedt;  six great grandchildren, River, Grace, Emma, Waverly, Lydia and Elliot.

FUNERAL SERVICE: Saturday, July 12, 2014, 10:30 a.m., First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Oakland

Lyle “Smiley” Neiburg, age 76, of Oakland, Nebraska passed away Thursday, May 1, 2014, at the Logan Valley Manor in Lyons, Nebraska. SIDNEY GLEN LINDSTROM was born May 14, 1953, in Oakland, Nebraska, to Sidney R. and Helen (Nielsen) Lindstrom. He passed away peacefully, at the age of 60 years on Friday, April 11, 2014, at Logan Valley Manor in Lyons, Nebraska, surrounded by his loving family.

Sid attended District 64 and graduated from Oakland-Craig High School in 1971. He was baptized and confirmed in the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Oakland. Sid belonged to   4-H, FFA, international order of Vikings and ABATE of Nebraska.

Sid married Julie Buell in 1976 at Fremont, Nebraska. To this union four daughters were born, Diane, Christina and twins, Sara and Anna.

Sid was engaged in farming southeast of Oakland on the family farm most of his life. Early in his farming career he also was a trucker for Holmquist Grain & Lumber, he feed cattle and hogs. Later he was a self-employed trucker hauling grain in the Oakland area.

Sid enjoyed spending time with family, visiting with his many friends, camping, fishing, playing his guitar and riding his motorcycle. What he loved most were his daughters.

He was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Anna; and parents.

Survivors include his daughters and sons-in-law, Diane (Dante) Manor of Gilbert, AZ, Christina (Adam) Morley of Lincoln, NE, Sara (Josh) Wallerstedt of Oakland; sister and brother-in-law, Mary (Richard) Strom of Oakland; brother, Harold (Carol) Lindstrom of Oakland; seven grandchildren, Leyten, Mia, Kade and Krew Morley, River, Grace and Emma Wallerstedt; many relatives and a host of friends.

MEMORIAL SERVICE: Thursday, April 17, 2014, 10:30 a.m. at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Oakland. The family would like to encourage family and friends to dress in Harley Davidson attire.
